I wondedr if this would be of use to anyone I have uploaded bootleg40 and nearly all the mod to a file host site. I know some people can not use torrents well if needed here are the files.

is this ever going to support the latest Gpu drivers for nvidia OR AMD?
cause i can't get my drivers to stay rolled back to the ones that work -_-
it ALWAYS updates after like a couple days to 327.23
and then boom! i can't run FFVII untill i roll back to the ones that work -_-
it's very annoying
any chance this'll get worked to to support the newest gpu drivers?

anytime i go above 314 drivers it screws up the visual settings to the point where all i see is a white screen when i attempt to load a game and beyond
come to think of it... it's probably cause i'm running an nvidia gpu -_-
go figure
nvidia... the way it's meant to fail lol...

Apparently this happens kos you installed nvidia update from Windows update, that only can be fixed if you reinstall your OS then in Windows Update where it says update nvidia thingy DON't update that and install nvidia driver from website manually then you can use latest drivers :) Thanks to Leonhart for finding this fix

Uh, I don't think you need to reinstall Windows to fix this. You can get the drivers manually from NVIDIA and it'll replace the ones from Windows Update.

This is because you have Windows Update set to automatically download and install. If you switch that to only notify of updates, then you can open Windows Update when it notifies and Right-Click -> Hide Update to get rid of it ever asking again. After that, just install driver updates from Nvidia's site as they reportedly work while the Windows Update drivers do not.

Hey guys! I installed the whole package and it really works like a charm!
However I have one (simple?) issue? Been playing for an hour now and everycutscene are in an "old version", like it was back then.

How can I get it to all look like this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPt68eVe0P0 ?

Ty :)

That looks to be the Bootleg+Grimmy option. It's just the PS3 tech demo for the opening, and the rest of the cut scenes will still be upscaled versions of the originals.

Is MO.exe still to be downloaded and used in bootleg? I read from the thread included with it on the big list of mods and it seemed like you arent supposed to?

thanks!

*nevermind, this was clarified for me*

Here use this: http://www.mediafire.com/view/muit00xtpc8qtuq/Final_Fantasy_VII.pin It's my game profile, I made it to match the psx controls exactly. I'm not sure of compatibility as far as Logitech rumble pads vs 360 windows controllers but it may work for anyone who wants to try it. I used the D input setting for older games (logitech cordless rumble pad firmware) so I could use L2 and R2 since for some reason it used the joystick buttons instead on X input, which uses the 360 firmware. It'll word either way though.

I'm not sure what you mean about choosing from which controller it uses. The system will pick which is dominant, probably by which usb port they use. If it's still a problem just unplug one.

Wow, I'm not sure why, but your profile fixed my problem exactly. I tried making one myself and it didn't resolve my issue, comparing the two I see no differences in how they were configured. I'll chalk it up to a new user experience.

My final conflict I'm having now is that my game is showing a black bar approx 1" thick on the bottom end of the screen, the resolution is a match to my monitor at 1920x1080, and it's only occurring on the field. Menus and battles do not have this issue.

I checked the FAQ page and did not see this issue, anyone have a tip for me? Loving it now so far, thanks once again for all the hard work that went into this!

Apologies to those who are helping me for the awkward time gaps between my posts, RL is a real pain sometimes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this work with Intel HD Graphics?

No, they don't support enough video RAM. There will be frequent crashing and/or freezing throughout the game.

I have a dedicated Nvidia GPU, but it will only launch the game with Intel HD Graphics.

Go into the Nvidia Control Panel and set a profile for ff7.exe. Then set the Nvidia GPU to run for that profile.

I don't like XYZ mod. Can I just run Bootleg again with something else selected?

No, you cannot. Many of the mods will alter the main files of the game, and uninstalling does not revert back to their original file structure. You will need to start over to change or try a new mod.
  • Uninstall FF7Music via Windows Control Panel.
  • Uninstall the game via Windows Control Panel.
  • Clean your registry using this tool: HERE
  • Delete the old installation folder completely. It will have junk files leftover from modding, and installing back into will cause a nightmare.
  • Install the game and start modding again.
When I click Play, a black command box appears briefly, and then closes. Nothing else happens after that.
  • Open FF7Config.exe.
  • Navigate to the Sound tab and choose a sound device. If it's left blank, the game won't launch.
When I run Bootleg, I get a message that says "Access Denied. Installation Aborted!".
  • Right click "My Computer" and select Properties.
  • Scroll down to "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings" and click on Change Settings.
  • In the Advanced tab, click on Environmental Variables.
  • Under "System variables" find the variable named Path, highlight it, and click Edit...
  • "Variable value" should have a long string of directories. Add %SystemRoot%\System32; as the first entry.

FF7Config.exe crashes when it tries to open.

This often happens with laptops featuring Nvidia Optimus.
  • Right-Click on your My Computer and select the "Manage" option.
  • Navigate to Event Viewer -> Windows Logs - > Application.
  • Find the Error that is associated with FF7Config.exe.
  • The "Faulting module path" shows which .dll created the error and where its located.
  • Google and download that .dll file and replace it in that same location.

If Windows is being a poo face and not giving permission to copy the file, then try this:
  • Right-click My Computer and select "Manage"
  • Navigate to "Local Users and Groups -> Users"
  • Right-click Administrator and select "Properties"
  • Type "Administrator" as the full name.
  • Check "Password never expires"
  • Uncheck "Account is disabled" and "User cannot change password"
  • Click "Apply", then "OK"
  • Right-click Administrator and select "Set Password"
  • Set the password as "Windows SUCKS" (kidding...pick your own :-P).
  • Log off and log back in as the Administrator, then try copying the file.
FF7.exe crashes when it tries to open.

Check your APP.log and compare it to this one:

If it's identical, then Aali's Custom Driver needs to be set.
  • Open FF7Config.exe.
  • Click on the "Graphics" tab and a message may appear saying "Self-test passed!"
  • If the message does not appear, set the Renderer as "Custom driver" and hit OK to close out.
  • Open FF7Config.exe again and click on the "Graphics" tab. The message will appear this time.
  • Hit OK to close out and launch the game from FF7 Bootloader to play.

FF7Music isn't playing music in-game.

Some computers don't cope well with the FF7Music installation during Bootleg. Download and run the following patch from inside your game folder:
The FacePalmer field textures don't appear to be working.

To my knowledge, this may only occur with Windows XP users.
  • Download Omzy's FF7 Field Textures.
  • Extract the "field" folder into [gamedir]\mods\Bootleg.
  • Edit "Run FFVII-Bootleg.bat" by removing all /AFFINITY F. Save before closing.
When I try playing, my screen looks like one of these:

Your AMD Catalyst drivers are not compatible. Uninstall them, then install one of the following:
When I try playing, my screen looks like this:

Your Nvidia 326.19 drivers are not compatible. Uninstall them, then install one of the following:
When I'm in battle, the text for HP/MP/Limit bars is congested and misaligned

This is because you have installed the "9999 Break" in Bootleg AND checked "Break Limit 9999" in Bootloader Configure.
  • Open FF7 Bootloader and click Configure.
  • Uncheck "Break Limit 9999"
  • Click "Write CFG" to save.

I can't see the counters for the Shinra Mansion Safe, Junon Parade, Gaea's Cliff, Rocket Launch Countdown, etc.
  • Make a backup of [gamedir]\mods\Bootleg.
  • Re-install Menu Overhaul with ReTranslation checked.
  • Go to [gamedir]\mods\DK and copy all its contents to [gamedir]\mods\Bootleg. Overwrite everything when asked.
  • Open up Bootloader Configure and change the Mod Path to "Bootleg" OR open ff7_opengl.cfg with Notepad and change mod_path = Bootleg. Be sure to save the file.
  • Play past the counter and save right after.
  • If you don't like the new text, repeat steps 2-4 with ReTranslation unchecked.
I selected ReTranslation + Canon Names/Items, but the names/items are still ReTranslated (e.g. Reno=Leno or Phoenix Down=Phoenix Tail).
  • Make a backup of [gamedir]\mods\Bootleg.
  • Re-install Menu Overhaul with ReTranslation and Canon Names/Items checked.
  • Go to [gamedir]\mods\DK and copy all its contents to [gamedir]\mods\Bootleg. Overwrite everything when asked.
  • Open up Bootloader Configure and change the Mod Path to "Bootleg" OR open ff7_opengl.cfg with Notepad and edit mod_path = Bootleg. Be sure to save the file.
The game crashes after opening the last chest on the 65th Floor of Shinra HQ.
  • Download this file: HERE
  • Download this tool: HERE
  • Open the UNLGP+LGP tool, point it to the FF7 data folder, and check the box for "Unlgp flevel.lgp"
  • A new folder will have opened. Put the file from step 1 into the folder and overwrite. I suggest making a backup of the file first before overwriting.
  • Repeat step 3, but this time instead, check the box for "Rebuild flevel.lpg"
  • Play FF7.
I try to launch the game, but it says "...MountFF7DISC1.bat is missing."

Rename a Hard Drive or Flash Drive to "FF7DISC1" and assign it's drive letter as the Data Drive within Bootloader Configure.

I try to launch the game, but it says "Please insert FF7 Game Disc 1, 2, or 3 and try again."

You need to pass the CD Check at the game's launch. Any one may be used:
  • Open FF7 Bootloader Configure and assure that Auto Mount is checked before starting the game.
  • Open FF7 Bootloader Configure and click the "Mount" button.
A cmd prompt will appear and assign a new virtual drive labeled FF7DISC1.
In Bootloader Configure, assign that virtual drive letter as the Data Drive.
To get rid of this virtual drive, click "Unmount" or restart your computer.
  • Rename an HDD or Flash Drive to "FF7DISC1" and assign it as the Data Drive.
I've completed Disc 1, but it keeps asking me to insert Disc 2 to continue.
  • Download DLPB_Tools.zip
  • Extract the "DLL_in" folder and "Mult.dll" to your game folder.
  • Download FF7anyCDv2.dll.
  • Place "FF7anyCDv2.dll" into the "DLL_in" folder.
  • Add the line  load_library = Multi.dll  to ff7_opengl.cfg.
Barret is using melee attack animations, even with ranged weapons.

There is an animation bug associated with the Timu+Kleyon+Asmodean battle model.
  • Download the animation fix: HERE
  • Download this tool: HERE
  • Open the UNLGP+LGP tool, point it to the FF7 data folder, and check the box for "Unlgp battle.lgp"
  • A new folder will have opened. Extract all the files from step 1 into the folder and overwrite.
  • Repeat step 3, but this time instead, check the box for "Rebuild battle.lpg"
This process will make a backup called battle.lpg.bak inside the ...\data\battle folder. You can always revert back to your previous battle models by renaming it to battle.lpg.

Hi, everything seemed to work perfectly but then the game started freezing every time i hit Yuffie Kisaragi in the forest battle.. I have modified her looks and the weapon seems to be f*cked up..

Anyway, do you know what might be the problem with Yuffie Kisaragis new model? Can i change her again without reinstalling everything as the game works fine if you don't count her in.. And unfortunately i wanna play with Yuffie too.

I may be able to load a savegame where she already is in the party.. But then i miss out on some epic story.. And she may be bugged even when the player uses her in battle but i don´t really know as i haven´t tried.

Video of the problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGEd0JJxfwo

PS: I´m using Grimmys Yuffie.

After adding the lvl one Yuffie and using her in battle she worked just fine.. But the ai controlled hostile Yuffie is bugged..

You can change models after installing, you need an lgp tool. Just be careful though, it's a good idea to make a back up first. I think the problem with Grimmys Yuffie is the animation file. If you open an original battle.lgp, or download another yuffie model I guess, and copy the **da files for each of her models that may fix it.

There was some kind of massive table in the wiki maybe that listed all the characters model files or whatever, it helped me a lot when exporting new models instead of just using bootleg.
Anyone know what im talking about? Its been forever.

I don't have a clue what happened, but my FF7 Bootleg just completely stopped working today. I hadn't played in a couple of days, and it was working just fine a couple of days ago.

Basically, a command prompt opens up, the FF7 music program opens up, and the screen adjusts as if direct x or something is kicking in, it does the direct x process like twice (I don't really know how to explain this, but the screen goes dark for a second, then it snaps back on showing all of the open windows I'm running in a much lower resolution, then it snaps back again to normal resolution). The command prompt stays open, and I can't close it for the life of me. Not even by ending process in task manager.

I'm lost here. I am already around 60% of the way through the game, and I just want to beat it again already.... Any help is appreciated.

My recommendation is to copy paste your save folder and AnxiousHeart folder (From ficedula folder) to a different folder then delete the installed game, reinstall it and reinstall your bootleg modifications. I've had to do this before when I accidentally messed up a mod setup.  Tell me, have you made any recent changes to certain files?  What are your bootleg settings before playing the game? What is checked and what isn't checked? What is your current resolution and internal resolution?

Anywho,  I have a question, what are the best texture settings that can be selected? I've tried only a couple when installing but I haven't tried others.   And other settings that are considered the 'best'.  o.o

I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything multiple times. I've even used the registry cleaning tool that was posted in the original troubleshooting thread.

I really don't know what is causing it. I did receive an error earlier that said OpenGL something or other, but it was the first time I saw it so it may have just been the effect of something I'd done in my attempt to get everything working again.

I'm going to try rolling back my video card drivers (Nvidia 780M) to see if that makes any difference.
