Lol, my bad. I clicked on 'Japanese Characters' and now all is working fine. Myst6reさん、 どうも有難う~!

EDIT: Is there any way to extract/export multiple pieces of text into a single text file? Just the used text for example. If not I think it would be a useful feature. Being able to edit in a regular text editor as a whole then importing it rather than having to skim to each part. Thanks!

I just tried this with the Japanese PSX version. Japanese compatibility was mentioned but I get indecipherable text like this:

The Rom is fine, I've been playing it on both linux and android

What I want to do is extract the text for easier translation. I thought it'd be a good excuse to practice my jap and replay again, it's been a while.

by 'it fails', i meant the general crap port from the psx, though it was a meant light-hearted you can take it as you want.

It seems like a really, really time consuming way of adding better content. Surely it'd be easier to just remake every scene with a pre rendered background with the qgears engine?

You mean to enhance the PC version.

Dude, the PC version fails. LOL (sorry, i had to)

Please consider building on qgears as an alternative. Gqears uses content primarily from PSX version which we all know is much more rock steady.

that's great!

not too sure about those white bits on cloud's arms though.

looking foward to some more screens

I'm so glad you posted this idea and showed me that thread. Elentor's thinking is correct. Reworking the entire game in such a way would take too much effort. I've been thinking about the possibility of rebuilding the entire opening bombing mission for some time now, as a sort of project demo, rebuilding the engine to higher standards for futher work (the rest of the game). I'm glad that there are others out there who share this idea.

There are only around 10 backgrounds in the opening bombing mission. 10 prerendered backgrounds is definately doable. You should give Elentor a hiring call, he seems very talented. Also, as with backgrounds, there are only a handful of battle/field models in this part of the game.

I'd say it would be far easier to write your own engine than it would be to try and squeeze something like that into FF7's original engine. Still it's a captivating idea, probably the most professional attempt I've yet seen content-wise. Shame Square-Enix would probably crack down on it like a ton of junkies.

It might be an idea to simply port qgears and add to it. At the time of Elentors post, there was no qgears but now we have an engine perfect for this project, though that said, qgears is still very early in development.

a team of 3-4 inc one programmer should cut it.

okay there's only one thign i can think of, and i'm really no expert, but try downloading a software renderer and make sure to apply it on ff7 config. or even adjust settings on ff7 config.

Sorry, but I'm making him the same proportions as the original chibi field model.

hahaha you're the boss. life size models never look right on the field. chibi models look more accurate anyway.

looking foward to it at any rate.  :-D

Am I royally screwed? :(
looks like it, man.

if you're using a pirated version of the game then that would most likely be why. assuming that you're not, check the net for ff8 pc patches before anything, and if to no avail check for a save editor

if all else fails, pm me and i'll get you past that bit, but you'll more than likely run into the same problem at another point in the game.

If this was going to happen, I think it should link to these forums, instead of having it's own.
Think of it in terms of having a small amount of butter (posts/knowledge/members), and having too much bread (too many forums).

I agree with you though: functionality/purpose > design/complexity!

that might bring a bit more activity this way too.

okay i'm liking this idea also. 'viiprojectcentre'.  :-D

something like this might look good
