Ok, so I was able to get the game running on the Shield Portable.  On the PC, I went in to the game and into the config menu and set up the direction/confirm/cancel, etc. to keyboard letters.  Then when I launched it from the Shield I could use the onscreen keyboard to interact and move.  Unfortunately, when I went in to the config and tried to bind it to the Shield Portable buttons it doesn't seem to recognize any input.

You had mentioned changing things in the FF7.exe shortcut. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. Any suggestions?

I found information on the GeForce website that suggests using xpadder running on the PC to bind keyboard inputs to a gamepad.

I got it working through streaming, but then when I went back to change the controls I messed something up. I mistakenly opened the FF7_launcher and FF7_Config in an attempt to change the mapping.  Only then did I realize that I would actually go into the game using the FF7.exe.  I managed to launch FF7.exe and map the controls to the keyboard but now whenever I launch via 7th Heaven it won't launch.

Is this a case where I just need to run the patcher, do you think?  I think if I can get it to launch and then bring up the virtual keypad on the touchscreen I can hopefully get into the menu to update the keybindings and see how that goes.

Now, if I can just get it to launch...

Awesome! I'm going to have to try this step-by-step.  I'm guessing streaming this to a netbook with Steam Controller support should also work to stream to a Nvidia Shield Portable, no?

I want to be able to play FFVII modded with my NVidia Shield portable from the couch.  I can add 7th Heaven as a program to Steam streaming/Moonlight, but has anyone had any success getting this to work?  Will the controls translate?  Is this even possible?

Enjoy you vacation and look forward to further developments.

I would also vote for the second option. I know that this is probably a bad idea, but playing through the BNW hack it seems like a lot of the battle music tracks are ignored in certain areas like the Cult of Kefka tower, etc. Would it make it any easier to not have to switch back and forth as often.  Personally I liked this change in the mod in just about all instances.

Is the twitch gameplay video without the fading?  If so, I really don't hear much of a problem with the transitions and I have played this game more times than I can remember. The only criticism I have is some of the tracks themselves.  Should one choose to do so, how easy would it be to replace a track?  Excellent work so far.  I apologize that my knowledge of the fading issue isn't more comprehensive.

I know that the Narshe music did continue until you reached Figaro, if that helps at all.

Thank you for your continual work.  The progress you have made so far is great. I'm sure that the idiosyncracies will be resolved.

This is one of my favorite games of all time and I was hoping that it would have some MSU-1 love.  Unfortunately my knowledge to do this myself is sorely lacking, but I would be happy to test (and learn) to bugfix in any way that I can.

You can create a text file with the lines
Code: [Select]
7thHeaven.exe /LAUNCH /QUIT
exit
in the root folder of 7H and save this as a .cmd file (simply rename txt to cmd). Send this to desktop as a short cut and you have a quick launch.

Thanks!

@chriserenity.  I have that video currently integrated and I can upload it tonight if no one comes along in the meantime to direct you to it.

@ Sega Chief
is this your video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqPdIUyt4io (?)  Does this included the bosses? I tried using the level 1 mod provided in 7th heaven but it seems to remove the bosses and replace them with regular enemies.

7th Heaven / Re: [Poll] 7th Heaven Difficulty Mods

The New Threat and Level 1 would be of most interest
I tried playing the Lvl 1 but it has replaced bosses with regular enemies, I presume to avoid XP gain. Did I install this incorrectly or is this intentional?  Does anyone know about this .exe?

Is there a way to launch straight from a shortcut instead of through the GUI?  I have the 7th heaven currently integrated into xbmc/kodi but I want to launch straight to the game.

FF7 Tools / Re: [FF7PC] Mod manager - 7thHeaven (v1.45)
« on: 2015-02-18 20:25:20 »
I had everything working fine with the mod manager and I hadn't played it for a few weeks.  I tried to load up the game like I had done before, but it appeared to load with a black square appearing in the upper right corner of the screen, and then it ctd.   I hadn't made any changes to the manager. I tried to update but still had the same problem.  I even deactivated mods and still had the same problem.  I hadn't done anything different but perhaps update my graphics card driver.

Any suggestions on a fix?  Will I have to uninstall/reinstall?

Is it possible to create my own music package or unpack the mod and pick and choose vids to put in the movies folder? I like the a credits and intro movies as well as the aerith scene and end scenes but the others will still have the block figures.

7th Heaven overwrites the default file structure if it has files for it. You have to made a 7th Heaven ready mod and load it before the movie mod to use other movies.

Thank you for the reply. So unless I have a mod packed with the specific movies I want then using the movies mod already within the catalog isn't going to help. Ok. What about backing up the files in the movie directory and then add them individually?  Is there a place to download the HQ movie files and I can just add them that way?

Alternately, is there a tutorial or easy way to package and create a mod to be used in 7th heaven?

I got the MO to run fine but I have a question about the movies.  When I have the movie mod installed it plays all of the correct updated movies, however if I install one manually into the game directory then it still plays the movie associated with the mod.  Only when I deactivate the movies mod will it allow me to add my own.  Is there a trick to getting them all to cooperate together?

EDIT:
I'm also having problems with the Field Texture Mod. I'm getting an error: Glitch Palette write to external texture field....

I am interested to see if we can fix the text issue as well since I am suffering from it, too and I never used other bootloaders but I do have a Nvidia card installed.

EDIT: I actually removed Red Werewolf and made sure my load order was correct and that fixed it.  It changed the names of my spells as well, thunder -> bolt if that makes a difference.

Now if I can just get the music to play and the Menu Overhaul to download without errors.  I'm going to DL and activate Music and Sound which I'm guessing will fix the first problem.

EDIT 2:  I see on some of the youtube vids that the intro movie includes some of the tech demo footage and there are some modded files here:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8414.0

Do I just replace them in the movies folder with what is there?

Finally, my attempt to download Menu Overhaul results in System.ComponentModel.AsyncCompletedEventArgs Error.

1. You don't install anything to the mounted ISO. That is used for the disc check. Install to C:\Games.

2. Most downloads have two links, Google Drive and MEGA, that it calls. If one doesn't download, it switches to the next and continues. There are two downloads because Google Drive has a limit that won't reset for 24 hrs, so without adding the second download link, it would error in 7H and not download at all. You're seeing the error from the Google Drive limit being reached, but it is downloading from MEGA after that and will install just fine.

Good to know I didn't need to do anything with the mounted ISO. Also, it seems like I'm doing the installs right. I just need to make sure I'm keeping track of which ones error-out and then uninstall/reinstall them.  I'm very grateful for your attentive replies.

Check the FAQ section on how to uninstall mods from 7H. This is the method you need to use to "delete" a mod.

There is no single download for them all. Once you've downloaded them all individually, copy them to another location for your backup. Putting them back into the mods\7th Heaven folder will allow them to be recognized next time 7H is opened.

Thank you. I have a few more questions:

1. This is probably a dumb question but should I be installing everything on the mounted iso D: or can I install it to C:\Games\?

2. Sometimes when I try to download a mod through the GUI it gives me an error.  I then still need to wait for it to finish downloading.  Then I uninstall it using the GUI and attempt to reinstall it until it does so without an error.  Is this the correct way to handle these errors?

Your help is greatly appreciated.  I am committed to getting these awesome mods to work.

Ok, my first attempt to do this ended miserably.   I was able to get as far as having all of the mods downloaded but when I went to install them it said it couldn't find the path, etc.  So I decided to just start from scratch and be a more diligent.  I ran the programs like CCleaner, etc. that are specified in earlier posts. I was able to uninstall and reinstall the game by using steam and deleting everything in the game folder and running the cleaning programs.  I reinstalled the game and used the converter successfully and even set up the 7th Heaven GUI with the appropriate settings.  My problem is that the GUI is still showing that I have the mods installed even though the files were deleted.  How do I allow the program to recognize that they are no longer there so that I may download them again?

Also, is there a single file containing all of the mods that can just be downloaded and dropped into the appropriate place instead of downloading them all individually?  This way I could have a backup.  Thanks.

I recently discovered this and am amazed. I went ahead and purchased FFVII from the SE store (<$5!) and want to do the install.  My problem is that I have already a number of games and mods installed in the Programs folder and that is where my Steam and games are located.  Will it mess up the install by keeping things there or do I need to relocate everything?  I found this link with instructions: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129.  Is it a must to relocate everything?

Thanks for your help!

EDIT: I actually uninstalled FFVII and then created a new C:/Games directory under steam and installed it through there. I'll have to move on to the next steps this evening.
