FFXII: Worth playing FF veteran?

The world of Ivalice in Final Fantasy XII has piqued my interest, but as a newcomer, I'd love to learn more from seasoned players before embarking on this potential journey.  Having thoroughly enjoyed the reimagined FFVII and exploring both eras of FFX/X-2, I'm always eager to expand my Final Fantasy horizons, and FFXII seems like a fascinating prospect.
