General Discussion / Getting Aeris Back
« on: 2002-12-02 04:04:11 »
Hey D@rio welcome to the board.  Just FYI, the MODs and everyone else don't like if you reply that more than a few weeks old becuase it brings the pretty much dead thread back to the top of the list.

Once again, welcome and Happy Posting

So if Square is disbanded what will happen to everything Final Fantasy?  Will it all just pass into public domain (yeah right, but its worth hoping for)?  Also how about support for their products?

I'll give you a hint, try reading Nayoung's post.  Her post holds the answers you seek.

So I take it that FF7 has problems with the Geforce4? How serious are they? Becuase I just ordered one a few days ago  :-?

I seem to remember the narrator saying something "Three years in the making" and " a cast of thousands"

If this project ever DOES come to life...

Hey what about putting this voice stuff into the remake?  I'm sure they'd beable to find enough people to voice the "cast thousands." (That was in the TV comercial for FFVII right? Or did I mix it up with something else?)

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / FF7 File Formats

I was wondering if anyone would mind posting what has been found out about the formats of the files used in FF7.  Like I tried looking for information about the format of .p files, but all the information seems to be from about a year ago.  I'm also interested in the format of the animation files, again mostly the battle ones.

I dunno, but I got Tifa to deck the dragon. She also decked me.

Does anyone have a save of right before the date?  I'm playing FF7 now, but I'm already where the weapon attacks the town with the giant gun, I forget the name right now.

On FF7 you forgot that it can be Cloud and Tifa, Cloud and Aeris, Cloud and Yuffie, or Cloud and Barret.

I never got the date with Barret.  Is it funny or just boring?

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised that FFV has some kickin' tunes.

Its kinda funny, though.  At the beginning of the game, most of the soundtrack is orchestral, no real "modern" instruments, but as you progress thru the game, and meet Ex-death, you start hearing a lot of songs using Distortion Guitar in it, probably culminating in Gilgameshe's theme, which is the closest the OST seems to come to the Rock genre.

I thought some of the music in FFX was pretty good and rocking, like when Sin is attacking the city at he begining.

I think the best overworld themes are in FFIV and FFVII.

Seph3D I know the spelling error was mentioned in the last thread, but its still in your frirst comic.  Its in the second white box in the last line of the second column and the first line of the third column.

Maybe Square is trying to make up for what was missed out in FFX.  I still think both VII and IX kicked @$$ compared to X.

Troubleshooting / Re: Background viewer

I haven't been around in a while so I don't know what developments have been made, but  check Ficedula's web site.

I was wondering if there was going to be an update anytime soon to the background viewers for ff7 pc (i.e: Gast, or lgptools). Just wondering because I have a need to extract the backgrounds.

Yeah, Phantasy Star 4 was good. And Phantasy Star 1 and 2 were ok.  But I thought the third one was horrible, never finished it.

--Edit--
I mispelled good.

From what I've read in the fourms it sounds like the remake project is going to be written by the remake team, but still use the data files from the original game? Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

I used to read this fourm, but kind of busy the last year with school.  But now I've taken an interest in programing.  I'm trying to write a program to convert from the .p models to some other format.  I know there are already some written that do that.  I've read the descriptions of the .p files from Ficedula, Alhexx, and Mirex.  Thanks to them, but they seem to be written a while ago, especially Mirex's.  I was wondering what progress has been made, and if there is a pretty recent description I can read?

Finally, I was wondering what compilers you guys use?
I was wondering becuase I wrote a simple "Hello World" program and compiled it with gcc under Windows and the exe was 98k.  Even worse I did it in C++, and compiled with gpp and the file swelled to almost 1.5 Megs.

General Discussion / programming???

In my programing class in Highschool and and my Intro to CS class here at college, the focus has been mainly on Java.  In high school, spent sometime on basic and VB to get everyone used to the basic concepts of programing, then spent the majority of the time on Java.  Here at college, we are working on Sun Solaris Workstations using Unix to program in Java.  Java is very good to get yourself used to OO. Thats my $0.02.
