*Remembering that the solution to so many technical problems is simply "is it plugged in?"*

You have edited the registry key accordingly correct? Change the video path to know that the vids are on the HD and not the CD?

2nd thing, make sure theres a \ at the end of the key, should look something like this:
C:\Program Files\SquareSoft Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\Movies\

This is what i'm running
Dell Dimension XPS T500 (yup that's a pentium 3 500mhz)
448mb sd-ram
Hercules Radeon 8500le 128mb at agp 2x
intel se 440bx mainboard

Wow, I'll see that and raise you my system:
Also a Dell Dimension XPS T500 (but I swapped the 500mhz chip out for a 650 that a friend had)
256mb sd-ram
NVidia GeForce2 32mb

Uncanny aint it?

But as for your problem, that is an odd one, and no idea whats causing it. Could it possibly be a missing texture in Barret's battle animations? Maybe a fault in copying the battle.lgp file from the cd, or maybe a bad copy of that file on the cd? Just a guess, but worth a try.

p.s. That pic is the funniest thing Ive seen all day, He's got Jay Leno's chin, hahaha.

Edit: Ive extracted rtda using LGP Tools, I have the file, now what do I do with it?

I'd say you should send it to Cyberman, he can make use of it.

Sounds fair, cuz I sure dont know how to get the info he's asking for, unless he wants the raw hex code, which I doubt, haha. All that's left is getting it to him. I dont have a site or any such way to upload the file and link it, but Id be happy to email it, just need an address to send it to.

You need to open the file in a hex editor and translate the hexadecimal numbers into long floats (Or any format resembering that, it might be fixed too) and see if any of them match.

Hmm, then it appears that I may be getting into more than I can do. Translating hex into long floats is something I dont know how to do. In fact my work with hex editors hasnt been very extensive, just editing and playing with command strings. (I used this to edit chatroom commands for a p2p program, and Im sure thats not very applicable to the present issue) But if anyone would care to give me a crash course in that Id be grateful, and may even be able to be of some help down the road.

What's the format? Well that's what you are trying to find out, right? The answer is we don't exactly know. The field .a formats are availible and the battle animations are somewhat documented. Look at gears. (click on my WWW button) that will tell you what has been discovered.

The animation files are not generic. You can't put them into 3d max or something and get a bunch of bones. You have to get dirty and rip the file apart using a hex editor to find what you are looking for.

So in other words theres no program that anyone may have (preferably written by someone here so I can have a copy to use) that can read the animation file data simply? I'll look in a moment for the hex editor that I have backed up on cd and install it, and see where things go from there...

Edit: Ok, Ive installed a hex editor again, but no idea where to go from here.

rx = Yuffie and  rt = Cloud, that is for basic battle models ... so Messiah99 you have to extract files 'rxda' and 'rtda' from file 'battle.lpg' which is in your ff7/data directory. You can do it with Unmass here or with LGPtools.

Ok, Ive downloaded Unmass, opened battle.lgp, and found rtda, but what from there? My apologies for not knowing what Im doing, Ive never messed with this kind of stuff before. I selected rtda and hit Extract, but Im not getting what to do from there. Does it extract this file to somewhere? I tried double clicking rtda, but it said there was an error creating the file. Im more than happy to assist in any way possible with anything thats needed, I just need to know how. Anyone who could tell me what to do please do, and I'll be willing to do the actual work. Thank you!

Edit: Ive extracted rtda using LGP Tools, I have the file, now what do I do with it? I'll get the numbers you ask for if someone will tell me what I need to read the file.

is it possible to mod ff7 so you can save anywhere?

Im sure it is if you know where the triggers that govern save points are loacted and how they work, then you could work with that. As for if anyone has done it yet, that I dont know...

82
If I had the first clue about how to go about that I would gladly do that right now, as Im bored stupid anyway, haha. But I dont know much of anything about how all that works, Im not much of a data reader.

Theres no save point in the flashback itself, but about midway through it it goes back to the present and you have an opportunity to rest and save in the inn, but thats not actually a part of the flashback.

Damn... if there was one we could use a save game editor and raise the level...

They probably thought of just that ahead of time, and chose not to include a save point for just that reason, among others Im sure.

What? Do you want to k.o. Sephiroth when you fight along side him in the flashback or what? Absolutely pointless...

Except that no matter what your current level at that point, in the flashback youre always the same level.

fice is right, gotta find a sweet spot. If you need to compress so things arent too large, then do, but you dont want to over-do it and end up with massive load times, Id rather a game be on several cds and take up a gig or gig and a half of hard drive space and load fast rather than be on one or two cds and take 6 or 7 hundred and load slow.

89
Are you using a hardware or software render? I remember when I was using software, some things werent like they were supposed to be, i.e. any time the screen was supposed to tint red (speaking to Vincent in the basement, Cloud freaking at the Honeybee inn, etc) there was no red tint, but thats about the only thing I can remember ATM. If youre using software rendering, it may just not be loading that animantion. Thats all I can think of right now though.

Max level is 99, from there, take the exp total at that point, draw that number out to all 9s, and there you have it. If thats not it, it may just total exp into infinity, but to no avail, since youve hit the max level. If Im incorrect, anyone else feel free to correct me, not as if it maters too much...

General Discussion / FFVII Remake Project ?

yep, as long as the core program & team are still here, when we know enough about FF7 things can start rolling again    (cough)

Yea, that is true, never say die as long as theres a chance! If I knew enough about programming and the like Id help, seeing as I have zero else to do, and more free time than I can stand, haha. Sadly thats all beyond my knowledge, but if it ever does get back off the ground, I can help in any way needed, presuming nothing changes between now and then

However, you may run into Windows's automatic file protection (you try and overwrite GM.DLS but it just replaces it with the old one, because it thinks you're trying to mess with system files).  I can't remember how to get around this off the top of my head, but someone else might know or you can Google it.

I believe you just replace the file in Windows' DLL Cache. Ive never had to do it myself, someone tell me if Im wrong.

Alternatively, you could use something besides the MS synthesizer (if you have anything else). You can select which MIDI device is default in the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel, Audio tab (MIDI Music Playback option).

Easy way out: Install the Yamaha MIDI Synth from the FF7 install disc.

Well, if theres been no word for a while, and everyone else seems to be onto other things right now, safe to say that project may be on hold indefinately, if not called off yet.

Man, that it sweet! But I gotta go with Chibi, scale him down, even if the body parts come out small, the right height would be a big plus for that, if you can that is. But still, thats a nice improvement, its like taking the hand patch to the next level.

I heard that if your intelligence is below 2 then game is alot different (you cannot speak your way into some quests and so on)

Intelligence determines what you can say. If your intelligence is low enough when you speak to people you can end up only having grunts and groans for responses, I havent done it myself, but one of my friends played a character with 1 intelligence once, wasnt very interesting I think, haha.

Archive / Patch: Play FF7 without CDs

I was not thinking about that when making that patch (I made it because it was handy), but now that you're talking about it, I'm wondering. I've heard all possible versions of it, the most common being "you can use it as long as you have the original game". Which does not mean it is true. Whatever, just get rid of my message, this will solve the problem.

Well, Id think the if you do own the game legit, then a no-CD crack would be legal, but Im no lawyer. (If I was I wouldnt be here Id be out spending all that money Id be making, haha) But even if its not, well, I dont think the computer police are going to be out in full force over this one.

MOD EDIT: Edited two posts into one post. Please don't double-post.
Magus Spirit EDIT: I didn't double post. The second paragraph is not mine.

Why was my post edited into his?  :weep: That second paragraph was mine. Oh well, no use bitching, just thought that was odd...

But yeah, this isn;t totaly legit, as playing with the code is a violation of the agreeement thingy you accept when you install the game.

Woa, that means youve actually READ that!  :o I always just accept and skip, I think I read one once and it was basically saying "I will not bootleg this game, etc etc" so I just assume thats what they all say, I dont have time for long legal mumbo jumbo thats never going to matter anyhow, since noones monitoring my computer anyhow.

Either way, Square raising piss about a game they didnt ever want to make a decent port of or not, and a BT tracker being an no-no or not, at least give it a shot and see what you can do with the movies.

If you cant do enough to make it worth it, then no hurt no foul, just go on with things as usual.

But what if you can? If you can get everything else to work out and successfully improve what anyone would agree was a terrible flaw in the port, then work on a way to get it to the masses. I couldnt download a gig of movies from a BT tracker myself, but Im on a 28.8k connection, but then again I dont play FF7 much these days either.

But if you can do it, take it one step at a time, and who knows? You may just bring us all one step closer to FF7 the way it deserves to be!
