General Discussion / Basically... FFX.
« on: 2002-12-09 09:28:42 »
This forum hasn't seen many topics on FFX. Mostly coz not many people have played it, and that's due to many people not owning a Playstation2. So what did everybody think of it? The new proper turn based battle system? Little extras like the battle arena? Dark Aeons?
When Final Fantasy VII was first getting european previews in Official Playstation Magazine, I read an interview with the guy in charge (I seriously dunno his name. Jeez it appears in the credits.). He was asked a question on why the game did not include voice actors. His reply went something like:

Quote
"...voice actors would have been very time consuming and almost certainly increased the number of discs the game would be released on. Most imprtantly, if I were to include voice actors, the music would be drowned out..."

So, in FFX, was the music drowned out? I was expecting more conversation during battles. The occasional "yeah!" leaps from Tidus' mouth but that's it. Battles were left for a very good reason: Cuz the music in Some battles was excellent. "Crisis" (also called "Peril") was the best battle tune I've heard in a FF game. Closely followed by "Challenge" which was included in the Yunaleska battle.

So what does everyone think?

Funnily enough. I've never seen a copy of Dragon Quest in the stores. Neither have I heard of it @_@

Believe it or not, calling Aeris the slum drunk doesn't affect her points............ maybe she IS the slum drunk.

Why don't you all get S3 Virge DXs? That card was alright.... came with Tomb Raider too!

My friend has a GeForceTi 4600 (Asus Ultra Deluxe) and it's got a weird connector on the back of it which we aren't sure what it is. It kinda looks like:

Luzzu and Gatta, members of the Crusaders. You meet them at Besaid, Kilika, then again at Mushroom Rock.

I have to disagree about Lulu's actor. When she says "Yuna will bring a new clam, one that will last forever", it seems so forced and unlike what anyone would ever say. Actors what I think were brilliant:
Luzzu
Wakka
Auron
Grand Maester Mika
Yu Yevon (yeah you heard!  :D)

I used the same mobo when I was using my SBLive. I don't think it's that cuz in any other MIDI proggy it's fine.

What about The Bouncer? Never played it myself. It got bad ratings. I heard it was FF Final Fight One.  :(

I get that problem when I use the hardware synths on my Audigy. I haven't tried MIDI Out or Software Synth but I know it doesn't happen when I use Yamaha's YXG100. I'm using Windows 98SE, haven't tried it on Win2k. I used to have an SBLive! and it was perfecto wiht FF7. I think it's just a problem that affects Audigy cards. One of those little things that sensitive 'ol FF7 amplifies (or not, no pun intended). I'm going to say it's the new SoundFont system that Audigy uses.
Also, something that pisses me off, you can't import EA presets (made for Live!) into the Audigy EAX panel. Grrrr.

I remember one conversation between Tidus and Yuna where it sounds like James Arnold Taylor had gone for a lunch break half way between the convosation and lost the emotion. Maybe they just weren't paid enough?

Saint: So you're syaing there weren't any Jap voices on FFXi? But FFXi was only released in Japan. I'm getting confused. So Square Japan thought they'd sell even more copies by putting on English voices and not Japanese? Well, I guess I can see their point but the ultimate version would be Eng/Jap voices with Eng/Jap subtitles, did Square ever think of that? It's not like it wouldn't fit on the DVD.

I remember FFX International having a Japanese - English switch in the config menu but I don't know if it's refering to the audio track or subtitles. And yeah, I wouldn't mind having it as an option, after all I did watch Ring with Englush subs and it's one of my favourite films of all time. And no, not the pooey remake.

Come to think of it. I did notice a differences in font of PAL and NTSC versions. Ok, I've got some screenshots from the opening of the North American version and I'm now going to compare the screen area to my PAL version to see for myself how the heck PAL fits 16:9 yet shows the same screen area. I know it has something to do with screen updates but I just wanna see it for myself =)

Xenogears..... never played it, didn't think  they released it in the UK. If it's that good I might buy it and play it on ePSXe. Can anyone recommend it enough for me too spend ridicu...... Christmas... hmm...

EDIT: Even though the game seems like a waster now, I'll probably end up buying it so I'm stopping my arguement here.

LoL@Trailer.
Is that thing serious? Jump button? I didn't see one bit of turn based action. This game is a waste of Square's time. I'd love to see a FF7 remake, not a sequel, same story, just better graphics and sound. I'd pay money for that, not some japanese Jak and Daxter shoot 'em up with girlies wearing half a dress! And guns?! WTF! If you're gonna have guns do it right like Vincent or gunblades, but handguns? Two of them at the same time? What is it? Tomb Raider?! You know what this is gonna be... Onimusha for FF!
Square is starting to suck, yes they are! FFXI now FFX-2.

General Discussion / V3 16bit quality
« on: 2002-11-07 19:14:32 »
I agree with LordKane: V3s had the best 16bit colour. I remember running my V3 3000 on ePSXe w/ dithering and it looked almost as good as 32bit on my GeForce 2. Without dithering it still looked pretty poor compared to nowadays 32bit cards. Keep in mind V3s can't do hardware Alpha Multipass, Alpha something anything, the one in Pete's GPU options, that's gotta effect soemthing.

I never thought I'd see the WinNT kernel performing better at games. <sigh> Goodbye Win9x, you lasted a long time. Still, my computer can't handle anything more than Creative WaveEditor and Cubase so I'm not trying to install any NT based OS, again. Whenever I open most MIDIs in Cubase VST/24 my system freezes, what is this?

Well, at 11mb I can't be arsed to download it unless I'm willing to stay online for more than an hour. What can I expect from my system:
Athlon XP 1700+
512mb DRR
GeForce 2 Pro @ 250mhz core & 490mhz 64mb DDR

Suddenly I realise how many people have better computers than me and think to myself "Oh shit, I need more money."

EDIT: ::Prays to the 3dfx Interactive gods:: Please, just one more...

I had an IBM/Cyrix once............... ::stamps on it:: Die you evil bstard!!! You're right, they don't run anything.

92oF? You're joking? Mine norm is 47oC that 116oF. From past experience, my Athlon XP 1700+ crashes at >53oC.

Speaking of overclocking... I've overcloked my GeForce 2 Pro (originally 200mhz core, and 400mhz RAM) to 250mhz core, and 480mhz RAM. I haven't seen any noticable instability so far.

Remember my power supply problems? I got a new PSU, a 425W Heroichi. I fitted, nothing happens. I put my old 300W Macron back in........ this time attaching the 12V cable -_- I don't know if it's done anything but on the PSU it says: "3.5v+5v=160W, 3.5v+5v+12v=300W" Should it have done anything? I want to ask you people before I try to refit my ~7000rpm fan.

General Discussion / I need some ff7 aid

The first time I played FF7, I used the XGLite of XG70. It sounded cool, but when I changed to XGSoft it was even better. Then I changed to the FF7 SoundFonts, vocals but crappy sounding. Then I got the XG Soundfont by one of you lot (sorry, I can't remember your name!).
The Audigy cards are so quiet on FF7. What causes this and how can I fix it?

47
Goku7: Did you say you had the Fortissimo? That was not much less than the Live! when it came out, IIRC.

What I would really like is a SoundFont of some the XG100. I dunno if I'll have the RAM to upload it.  -_-

48
I downloaded Samuels DLS a long time ago on a 56k. I just used a download proggy called GoZilla! Now I use GetRight though, less ads. I think I'll try out Samuels DLS again, I want to challenge Omega Weapon, never done that before.
Should I use MS Synth or upload it straight to my Audigy?

Which is better quality, XG50 or XG100?

So, is this new J version of FF8 going to look exactly the same as the previous? I mean, are going to increase the resolution or change anything?

The first I played FF7 was on my last computer:
Pentium III 500mhz
192mb RAM
Voodoo 3 3000AGP (Like AGP ever made a difference with the V3s  -_- )
Everything ran fine, the world map does run a lot faster on a GF2 but it ran pretty fast then, hella stable too might I add.

FF8 PC's music was rather impressive I thought. I never played the PSX equivelent (still haven't) but the Microsoft Synthesiser is... er, well is was ok then! Now, I don't know what to use for FF8.
