I've heard of some XBLOX emulators that essentially convert the XBLOX game into a native Windblows application due to the fact that both Windblows and XBLOX are so similar. (Damn you Microsoftdrink!!) And I was wondering if it's possible to do that with PSX games. If you could then that would open up a lot of doors for reviving old games. You could even run them with DirectX and such. I know someone is going to answer either Connectix Virtual Game Station or EPSXE even though it's not the same. The experience is very different. If it was possible to convert these old friends, it would be great. Imagine playing Armored Core or Monster Rancher 2 on your PC without having to go through an emulator. Especially FF9. I know it's a little far-fetched, but I think it's an opportunity for a project. Maybe even an emu that runs on XBLOX that runs PSX games. Thanks.

Well... probably not. You see, the XBox runs a modified NT kernel so the conversion is rather simple. There is nothing proprietary in an xbox:
theres:
An Intel 733 Mhz (basically) Celeron
A Geforce 3
64 MHz of Samsung DRAM
Thompson DVD Drive
10GB Seagate Hard drive

You see, the xbox is just a computer. Even the controller itself is just a USB hub

The playstation, on the other hand, runs on a RISC chip (similar to a MAC) with a different instruction set, so it would be incredibly difficult - if not impossible - not make playstation games run native to a PC.

Well, first things first, having no real working knowledge of the areas of programming of which you speak, I shall just shut up, tis better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I counter your joke with another joke, just as tasteless and crude! (As he said, if you dont like it, dont read it!)

A man is told one day by a good friend that he's been set up on a blind date. He figures, "Hey, who knows, could work out real well." His friend tells him the catch is that the woman has no legs. But he's a fairly open minded man, and isnt going to turn this down just because of that.

The night of the date comes, and he picks her up at her fathers place for their date. He's a gentleman and helps her to the car, and theyre on their way. They go out to dinner, see a show, all the usual stuff. They hit it off real well, he finds her very interesting, and i really glad he went on this date.

At the end of their dinner, before he's going to take her home, she asks if he'd like to have sex. He accepts the invitation, and they leave the restaurant. She gives him directions to where she wants to go, her favorite place she says, and they arrive. She shows him a tree and she says that she wants him to lift her up and she'll grab onto the limp and hold it while they have sex.

After theyre done, he takes her home and drops her off, they plan to go on another date, and he turns to leave. Just then he hears the sound of her father running down the stairs toward the door and yelling for him not to leave. He thinks he's in deep shit now, "Oh man, he knows what we did and he's gonna kill me!" Well, the father gets out and catches him. He starts telling him he's got to be the greatest guy his daughters ever met, and if he needs anything, money, a car, a job, anything at all, all he has to do is ask.

So he asks her father, "Sir, if I may ask, why are you so enthusiastic about me? I thought you were going to kill me for having sex with your daughter tonight."

And the father looks at him and tells him, "Are you kidding? Hell, youre the first guy shes been out with that didnt leave her hanging from that fucking tree!!!"

Ahh, touche, you are indeed one of those lucky few whos sense of humor via bad taste in jokes rivals my own. As its late and Im tired, I'll leave you with this last one for the night.....

4 nuns stand  in line at the gates of heaven before St Peter. As the first is called forward, she tells the great saint, "I must confess, I once glimpsed at a mans penis" and St Peter tells her, "You must wash your eyes in the holy water, and then you shall be allowed to enter heaven."

As the second steps forward, she tells the saint, "I must confess, I once touched a mans penis" and St Peter tells her, "You must wash your hands in the holy water, and you shall be allowed to enter heaven."

At this point the 4th nun cuts in line ahead of the 3rd. St Peter asks why she has done this, to which she replies, "I see where this is going, and I wanna wash my mouth out before she sticks her ass in it!"

Not the best I know, on any other day I could have thrown out worse, count yourselves lucky, and like trickstar said, if you dont like it, I really have to say its your fault for reading it! Heheh. :P

Edit: Spelling - Anyone in the Texas area that wouldnt mind typing these messages for me? Haha.

OK, I'll help you. It's disabled to keep the signal to noise ratio bearable. In other words - to minimize the unnecessary bullshit.

I shall presume that Im as much to blame here as he, instigation works like that. But on the flip side, it was a nice little string of bullshit, not the right place for it I know, but I'll drop it if it ends anything before it starts....

I see, I'll try not to do that kind of stuff anymore... I'll make like a pair of expensive headphones and be crystal clear. :)

Anyway, there's gotta be a way to convert PSX games. I don't think the PC ports of the game were completely redone in order to milk it for more sales. Totally redoing it would make them lose money. Konami (MGS PC) and Eidos (Tomb Raider series) are holding out on us. I wonder if it is possible to emulate PSX games on an XBOX. Maybe something similar to Bleem! for Dreamcast.

Well not exactly, but there's no secret magic way to port games -- you have to rewrite all platform-dependant code or, which is more common nowadays, work on different platforms in parallel.

So you're telling me that when they redo a game on a different system 2 years later, they'll leave in some of the same mistakes?

I said they rewrite all platform-dependant code, not redesign the game.

hehe...  I've got to admit, I'm kinda disappointed. I saw some of the same errors in FF8 PC that were in the PSX version. I have no clue why they added that stupid credits feature though. They don't fix their mistakes but they will do a retarded scroll of their names when they know people will see their names countless times in the ending when they watch it with Bink.

I admit that some errors in FF8 are hard to fix without fudging up the game
Spoiler: show
(parade scene: the float is facing one direction under the arch but when Irvine takes the shot she's facing the other direction.)
but there are some easy ones like fixing
Spoiler: show
the camera angles when you fight Ultimecia so you cant see that her dress is the entire battle field.

Oh and is it at least possible to play PSX games on XBOX with a homebrew emu?

Not at least without expanding it's internal RAM some.
There is a port of PCSX to it. So it's possible, one just has to be able to play mode 2 CD's in it and emulate the PSX sound system. The GPU  is the hard part as it needs to support the version of Direct X on the Xbox :)

Did I hear a rumour about FF7 being remade for PS2 a while ago? Sure, it wouldn't make any money from anyone bar the dedicated fans. I'd spend my notes for that.

Ive heard FF7 rumors a lot recently, remake for PS2, a video game sequel (not Advent Children) and whatever else, but dont believe anything until you see screenshots.
