Fading problem
« on: 2012-02-12 13:35:45 »
It's been quite some time since I posted here. Probably around 2 years... Having said that, I'm not quite sure if I'm posting this in the right section. Please do excuse me if I posted in the wrong place. Anyway, I have a problem with my Final Fantasy 7. Whenever I exit or enter a place, my game doesn't fade like the way it used to in psx. I also do remember playing FF7 here on another laptop a few years ago. I didn't encounter such problem. Well its not much of a problem, but its just so irritating seeing your game popping up and not fading in nor out when you exit or enter a certain field. Help? Any advice please? Thank you!

...Why'd you quote yourself? This isn't a thread Aali is going to read anyway.

Also, stop pestering members for uploads.

He's posted that quote something like five times now. I know that webserver has had problems for a few days (DNS issue?), but Aali isn't obliged to fix these links at the drop of a hat. Be a little more patient.

Sorry, that was my fault!
I had forgotten to mention that I have taken the link (5 Posts above) from UGerstl.
Sorry, UGerstl.

It's no big deal, it's just that people need to be a little more patient, as I said. Eagerness is great, but Aali's doing this through goodwill, not obligation. Let's respect that.

@e1sunz: Thanks, you understand what i try to do.

@Kompass63: You don't have to excuse. I am happy when my links are used to
                        make the data available for user requests. This is why i made them.

@Bosola:

Why'd you quote yourself?

   This was a desperate cry for help towards Aali.
   As you can see, i have deleted this post.

... stop pestering members for uploads.

   Wouldn't you be glad, when i have saved your lost data and i give
   you the chance to use it without uploading them by yourself ?
   I would.

He's posted that quote something like five times now.

   I found one original and two quotes (including this one).
   (the PLEASE ones)

I know that webserver has had problems for a few days (DNS issue?) ...

   Down since: 01/20/2012 (1 month until now)

Server is down until further notice. It will probably remain down until march actually as I have no access to it at the moment.

Feel free to post mirrors of the important stuff in the meantime.

... Aali isn't obliged to fix these links at the drop of a hat.

   Aali's driver is important for all users. Really nothing goes without it.

   When a user is searching for it, he lands at Aali's topic.
   What does he find ? Only dead links.
   The next he does is a request for the driver.

   Wouldn't our (your's including) live be much easier if these links were updated.
   When Aali does not have the time (a few minutes), you can surely do it also.
   Also Administrators have the possibility to help where it is needed (we know
   it very well).
  (look at the Update)

Update:

I do not endorse mirroring of the driver download. Obviously its for everyones benefit right now and I'm not going to make a fuss about it but the official download location has not and will not change. I doubt its really causing you that much trouble and even if it is, the server will be back up before March 13. So, in the meantime.. just enjoy it.

So I've tested the new driver. It worked fine and now I have transparent Box. But unfortunately I still have problems.. Remember my post about the screen doesn't fade when I enter or exit a certain map or field? Well I still have a problem with that. With the new driver that I've installed, my screen still doesn't fade but instead, the screen freezes for a short while with the exception of the red arrows that indicated where to enter or exit a field. As in, when I exit the current field I'm in, the map itself freezes for a short while. The music keeps playing and doesn't freezes along with the game. Also, the red arrow that indicates where to exit the field still moves. And then, BAM! I'm on the next map. Somewhat similar to my first problem. Slight changes though. Also, when I open up my map in the world field, I dont see anything. Just the line of sight of my character. Usually, when you open up the map in the field, you could see the lands, the towns and your character with its own line of sight. Now my problem with that is, with my new driver, everything is gone except for the line of sight. As for the dialogue transparent box.. well yeah its transparent.. but problem is.. there is no color. Like its just crystal clear transparent. No matter how much I adjust the color of my screen in the game, it still displays the same color.. BUT, whenever I'm in a battle, I can see the color of my dialogue boxes. Except for the ones displayed at the top of the screen when a certain special move is executed. That one is still crystal clear transparent. Sorry if I'm not making any sense but I hope you guys can help me out.

Hi Cronus,

The Option "compress_textures = off" can maybe prevent you for screen freezes (slow or full Harddrive?).

I have made some Tests and can't recognize any Fading-Problem.
Do you have installed the newest Graphic Card Driver and Service Pack?

Hi Cronus,

this should solve some of your problems:

Don't forget to start Windows Update
after the installation of Service Pack 1.

Open ff7_opengl.cfg with any text editor (Notepad, ...)
  • check this parameter:  use_shaders = yes

  • add these lines at the bottom:

    # Disable Error Notifications
    disable_popup = on

Open .\shaders\nolight\main.frag with any text editor (Notepad, ...)
  • remove all lines

  • insert this:
Code: [Select]
#version 120

uniform int vertextype;

uniform sampler2D tex;
uniform bool texture;
uniform bool fb_texture;

void main()
{
vec4 color = gl_Color;
vec4 texture_color;

texture_color = texture2D(tex, gl_TexCoord[0].st);
if(texture)
{

if(fb_texture && texture_color.rgb == vec3(0.0, 0.0, 0.0)) discard;

if(texture_color.a == 0.0) discard;

color *= texture_color;
}

gl_FragColor = color;
}
