Not a great story compared to FFX... but I think its more fun. The battle system is much better.
I beat the game the yesterday at 55% completion, so I bought the strategy guide, and I'll start my game to get 100% today.

I beat him at about those levels as well. You need to equip those little crystal things to make you immune to a bunch of his spells, iirc.

If you wanted higher resolution and such in FF7, a few things would have to be done...
1) Re-render the movies
2) Recreate the field file backgrounds, so the borders could not be seen
amongst other things. I haven't messed with FF7 in two years...
