Game crash on launch

I had the game running smoothly about 2 months ago then stopped playing for awhile. Launched it again the other day and it's crashing with the "Oops something bad has happened" error. App log shows unhandled exception after Initialize DD/D3D End.

I've seen a few other posts recently that are having the same problem and the go to solution seems to be making sure that the Sound device is set when running the converter. Well, the device is set and I'm still getting a crash.

I disabled Menu overhaul and can launch the game fine with the ff7.exe and the mods work, except for MO of course. I've reinstalled multiple times in different directories after cleaning the registry but no dice. I've not changed anything on my PC either, except for Windows and Video Driver Updates.

All installs were ran as Administrator and I've tried to troubleshoot this to the best of my ability. Still, I feel like I'm missing something simple and would appreciate a fresh set of eyes if anyone has the time.

I am having the same issue and cannot find a solid solution other than re-installing all over again.

I am not terribly familiar with Windows as I am with Mac, but I have checked Workshop > OpenGL Driver Configuration and Workshop > Settings. I have removed the Menu mod with "Because" in it since I saw a post concerning that.

If you need further information I can get it, I'm not sure how at the moment.

This solution is only when you Launch Game and the game window opens and closes immediately. You don't get the "Opps..." crash message for it. I am on vacation, so I can't problem solve this deeply right now, but I will look into it when I get back home this weekend.

If you're using MO, have you set Workshop -> Settings -> FF7 Exe to launch with the ff7_mo.exe? If you're using MO + Beacause, then you launch with ff7_bc.exe.


@MrTurdFerguson - Post your APP.log, Profile Details, and FF7_GC.log so we can compare to the OP.

I am running Windows 10 and a new update just occurred right before I posted this. I forgot to mention that. Previously it had been working just fine for a couple of months.

The APP.log file in the Steam folder is blank. Is there somewhere else I can look for this data?

I'm not sure where to get the FF7_GC.log.

Run the Game Converter again and choose the Overwrite option. FF7 is very sensitive with its registry keys, and I've noticed that driver updates on your computer can sometimes cause the game to stop working.
