Compressing the kernel2.bin
« on: 2006-05-21 00:48:47 »
As I edit the kernel2.bin, obviously the file size grows. As far as I can tell, if the file size grows too large, FF7 won't recognize it and therefore will crash. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If I'm not wrong, though, any methods on how to compress the files further than what Cosmo already compresses them?

FF7 can only read the compression that the file already was.

What exactly are you doing to make it so big, anyway? Just changing shouldn't increase the size, unless you're also adding something, I think.

I don't mean to change the compression method. I want to know how to make the files in there more compressed, actually getting into the kernel2.bin and compressing the files, if it's possible.

Yeah, well I'm adding stuff, and an addition of about .5 Kb causes a crash, so therefore you can only edit so much before it exceeds that limit and crashes.
