General Discussion / FF:CC - 1.5 seconds of footage, woo!
« on: 2002-09-27 21:00:43 »
uhmm... I just entered "Playstation PC controller" and got 40 items, most of which are PS1/2 to PC adapters.

Similarly, I just entered "Playstation Xbox controller" and got 14 items, most of which are PS1/2 to Xbox converters.

They're out there, you just need to search for the right things.

I'd like to point out that on Ebay, you can buy adapters for whatever control you like to use, ot juts about any system you want. So you could use a PS2 control on a gamecube, or a gamecube on an X-Box. (Although I don't know if they make those yet, but it stands to reason that they do.)

I'd like to point out that Bink wasn't around when they released FF7...

Those reasons to get a GameCube sounds just like the reason I'm going to get it. But I can break it down into two different titles: Super Smash Bros. Melee, and the new Legend of Zelda game.

I'm gonna get a PS2 so I can play FFX (I own a copy, but I don't own a system), and Gundam: Journey to Jabrow. (If that game had multiplayer it would have been awesome!)

IIRC, It happened mostly with Cyrix chipsets, and a few ATI cards. Apparently they didn't test it enough. They had to dump a lot of stuff they wanted to do cause they were behind schedule as is.

Xbox: ..., MGS2: Substance...

Don't bring MSG2: Substance into this. It's also be developed for PS2 and PC. (PC version is gonna kick every other version's ass!)

The GC is, graphically, more powerful than the PS2, because it uses multiple GFX chips. The PS3 is going to use a similar method.

133
heh... yeah, those battle models are cheap.

Sounds like some real progress is being developed. That's good! Can't wait until I can import a FF7 model, skeleton, and animation directly into Lightwave, alter it, and dump it back into FF7. That would defiantly help the remake!

Keep up the great work!

Hahaha! I love the avatar today Nayoung!  It's awesome!

Believe it or not, I was the one to make that for Nayoung. You can see the same character on today's issue of Sara and David.

methinks WinMX would be a good place to start...

136
Damn... You Alhexx, and mirex should compare notes...

137
ahh... but then you'll have the debate: Go for the classic look, or update it. Personally, I HATE the idea that they're updating the graphics for the PSX FF1 re-release.

Didn't young tifa get sliced in half by sephy and she dosen't even have a scar!

Amazing what the Cure & Heal spells can do, huh? ;)

In all reality, she probably DOES have a scar. The fact that we don't hear about it, or see it is a mere technicality.

Hey! Look at it this way: FF7 was the ONLY game to have more than 1 character in the poll. I think that's pretty good!

At least Link beat Mario... Link's more of a hero than him...

Yeah, my avatar is the max size allowed. (Althought I think the offical max size is 128x128... Don't quote me on that...)

Fice: Here's ancnt2, set to -1 and reloaded:

BTW: I LOVE Panel1... (It says Panel1 under the window's toolbar...)

EDIT: Hang on a sec! The blend offset is set to zero in those shots ... you DO realise that you need to set it to -1 for auto detection?  (makes mental note to make -1 the default in future versions...)   Don't know whether that'd fix it ... the auto detection isn't perfect ... but worth trying if you haven't ;)

It is? I never saw anything about that in the docs... I'll check it out when I get home.

Not at all. We'd take the High-rez version, and make maps & a low-rez version out of it for use in the game. This will probably be the technique we'll use for the new battle areas, when we start doing that.

Yeee Ha! I'll flush out the critters, and you pick them off!
[/Drunken Hunter]

Actually, if you could get FF7Music to actually LOOP the MP3's I'd be happy. I think the Disable MIDI doesn't work, but I can do that manually in the config prog. And for the record, on my 98 machine, other than the two problems I just mentioned, it works fine.

*Edit 1*

Heh... You can always trust me to find your bugs... Hey! I can see more of the Ancient Forest now! Still screwy though...

Bugs:
On scenes where it's straight-on animation, it works fine. However, when it has an additive animation, such as ancnt2, I get this:
Original

+ Alpha

+ Blend Only (+ Alpha makes no difference.)

Those images represent all field files with addative lighting/animation.

Oh, this is nothing new, but on ancnt3 I get an access violation at addy:00405A30, read addy of FFFFFFFF. zmind3 has the same error.

cos_btm: Access violation: 00405A30, Read of 000003FC

Why is the background now white, instead of black? I liked the black...

blin66_6 seems to be having a similar problem that the ancient forests are... (The file looks like the Shinra Confrence room, from ground level.)

Woah! What's up with the green??

I've found that on a few other images too... (File: colne_4)

And have we ever found a solution to those damn black dots?

*Edit 2*
When I opened the battle.lgp, and tried to look at "aaab" as a field background, the first time it automatically killed the application. The second time I did it, I got "The Instruction at 0x77fcb91 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written." I clicked OK and I got "The Instruction at 0x77fcbd4 referenced memory at 0xfffffff8. The memory could not be read." I clicked OK, TWICE, then it dissapeared, and closed LGP tools.

Now it just continues to kill the app when I try to do it again.

Truth be told, I've been thinking about that ever since I first saw you images. I kept thinking: "We could REALLY use that model for the remake..."

I don't know why I didn't say anything... *Slaps himself*

Yes, it can be done, but just having it in the scene will increase render times, even if you don't see it. It may not be by very much, but it WILL increase render times.

I still say the 2-parts method would be better. Another advantage: You won't get confused as easily when trying to setup a shot. Yet another advantage: The Inside doesn't have to conform to the outside.

And I just like to point out that they DID what I suggested in FF7! Do you think that window to Tifa's room in the Lifestream/Flashback part was all one set/model? I seriously doubt it...
