I wasn't *quite* in the topic for about 2 months when I had no internet nor computer ...

Is FFXI Eng. already released, if not, what is the release date.

And second - anybody already began making a server emulator?
If yes, Square will kill...

It's on beta testing right now, and I got accepted to it.  Somehow, I haven't received anything of it on the mail.

But if I'm not mistaken, you can't select your server in FFXI.. it's assigend to you randomly, and you have to get a special item to be able to switch, and the item is hard to get... or so I've heard.. I may be wrong, mighta changed it.

If they do I will hug them eternally :P (and so there was no server emu made under this threat).

Yeah "Key of the Twilight" and eveybody is happy..
Cannot log out..

Well,  I guess the emu won't work that way. Ie. when FFXI tries to connect to it's server the Server Emu will take over that call and make a fake reply or whatsoever..
Though I keep thinking it will be way hard to do so...

Server emu for Ragnarok?
Huh? Did I miss anything?

The server "Emu"s for ragnarok aren't server emus at all
Somehow the actual server program for ragnarok got leaked. Its the real server program that Gravity themselfes programed for their own servers.
I could be wrong but here's how i heard the story on how it got out. Apparently, Gravity had accidently placed the latest (at the time anyway) server executables on their public FTP. Not password protected or anything...just there to grab. They had quickly remidied this but not before some people managed to download it. The server program has an auto updating feature as well so the rouge servers will always have access to the latest versions. If anyone's interested on the full story i can dig up some info for ya ^_^

oh?

It's getting interesting..
I thought of Ragnarok since I think VValentine posted with me about it so maybe since there is an emu I will check it out to see if I will like it.
No help finding nor the Beta Client, nor the emu..

And I thought the topic was "Final Fantasy XI" :P
But points for Gravity..
Way awesome, maybe Square will set-up a public FTP with HQ 3d models used in FMV's? ... sweet dreams ^^

The only way of making your own FFXI server is the following really strange and messy methode:
1: Know your current server TCP/IP address (either will do).
2: Run the playstation or PC version on a locall network, IE use a handy Linux box as your gateway (easiest method really).
3: Add a machine with the static IP of the server on your network OR with the TCP address and be sure your local DNS is used first before the ones your ISP provides.
4: Set up a 'honey' pot server on the Linux box that listens to a range of ports for connections. Check for UDP packets to random Port addresses as well.
5: Find out the login protocol (not hard because it's SENDING the data to you).

After that.. well who knows it would take a number of months before you got more than just the login done I'm sure.

There is another option
1: Set up IP masquerading on the linux box placing a virtual server on it.
2: The virtual server handles forwarding of packets to specific IP addresses while recording the data sent and recieved.
3: This requires a Kernal hack but is still quite doable.
4: This gets you all the information you likely will need for format and data being sent and recieved to the FFX1 server.

The important thing is to have fun ;)

Yeah, I remember posting stuff about it for you.  But now I don't play RO anymore.  Gravity turned it into crap.  Damn, I used to be so much into that game, I even volunteered to work with Gravity at E3.  Now they only disappoint me.  Hell, I still have some Gravity/E3 memorabilia lying around, might as well sell it since I need the money :z .  Oh and yeah, the AEGIS server is lying around everywhere.  I have an older version, I think I'll make a private server sometime later this year.

Hmm, I would try RO Offline, but I can't get how to do it.. Anyway.

The FFXI will be lots'a fun..-- although really, I think it is kinda not possible to play it "offline". Too many damn server commands -- but who knows. With FF's popularity maybe someone genius will take care of this one.

UPDATE:

I just received my beta version of FFXI.  4 CDs for FFXI and 1 CD for Tetra Master.  I haven't installed it yet, but I'll give you the details once I do.

Darn you =(

I got in six (heck, maybe 7, I don't even remember them all) beta tests this year alone, and the ONE GAME I've been waiting for more than anything... no such luck.

Well, here is what I have to say after playing the game.  It improved so damn much.  The fighting is not as dull as when I played in E3.  And there is a lot more to do.  No freaking lag also.

Now, to get the game to play, it took me almost 4 hours.  Installation, download updates, register, and create the character.  But I guess it was worth it.  So far my views on FFXI did change, as it doesn't suck as it did 1 year ago.

My character's name is Valentine, and I'm a male Elven.  So whoever is playing, you can find me by that name.

Weee, post some screenies! ^^

Elven? What class?
And how does the interaction between characters look?
What about magic, GF's etc.?
I kinda didn't bother to read the review's etc, so I'll take first-hand info if you don't mind..

No lags yet, the player storm has not begun yet ..
I envy you ^^

What she was asking was, if you had the japanese version, then you should have known about the classes, magic, etc...

Anyways, I'm a thief right now, and I'm going to get a subclass of warrior.  I'll post some screenies this weekend, or whenever I find a function in the game to take screenshots.
