Title: [PSX] Image file extractor and related tools (2008-01-06)
Post by: Zidane_2 on 2007-08-27 12:42:06
Hello all!
I am working on Final Fantasy IX content and data formats.
I already wrote two utilities that might interest you:
FF9 image file extractor and DB extractor (utility to split some FF9 files to separate data chunks)
http://www.filefactory.com/file/6b594e/

--------------------------------
FF9_img_extractor:
If you want to use this tool, I strongly recommend to copy ff9.img file to your hard drive, because sometimes file cann't be read correctly from CD. If file cann't be copied directly - use special CD image software such as IsoBuster etc.

Usage:
FF9_img_extractor.exe <full path to ff9.img> <path to out dir>

---------------------------------
DB_Extractor:
This utility splits many files from 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 dirs, created by FF9_img_extractor, to the parts, which they consist of.

Usage:
DB_Extract.exe <path to file contain 0xDB in begin>

Battle scene viewer:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/9a7de0/

The battle scenes located in 6th dir.
Don`t open other files by this utility.

Awesome work zidane! I'm glad to see people working on one of my favourite FF games, it's strange seeing the string 'File written by Photoshop' in some of the files :-P

I can't belive some of the battle scenes had so much detail, like the stairs in file 0 of directory 6, it adds a nice touch.

I redownload img and db extractors to:
http://zidane_games.webhost.ru/FF9_TOOLS.rar (http://zidane_games.webhost.ru/FF9_TOOLS.rar)

And upload new version of the "battle scene viewer":
http://zidane_games.webhost.ru/New_viewer.rar (http://zidane_games.webhost.ru/New_viewer.rar)

In new version i fix old bug with textures :)))

Archive contain old and new versions and 2 files for example.

Little update :))
http://zidane_games.webhost.ru/FFIX_BattleScene_viewer_final_+_SRC.rar (http://zidane_games.webhost.ru/FFIX_BattleScene_viewer_final_+_SRC.rar)

Fixed little bug with pixels in textures (example in 36 scene on the carpet).

Added function for loading other scene by pressing "enter" key.

Fixed bug with semi-transparent objects.

Incresed textures contrast.

Hey Zidane_2,
I really appreciate you creating a application file can extract databases from FFIX...but I cannot seem to figure it out personally. I have tired again and again and always seem to get the same response from your application. Here is what it always says to me:

"Can`t find file, or directory incorrect!
2 parameters:
First is full path to FF9.img file
Second is path to directory for extract with slash at end
Usage: FF9_img_extractor.exe <FF9.img> <Directory/>
"

I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Can you please help me out?

Thank you for any help given

PS: Here is a link to provide more information on my issue: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13145.0 (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13145.0)

Hi Zidane,

Have you see any possibility in FF9 to extract the dialog and then make a translation?

If you could make a text/dialog editor, that would be amazing! I might translate FF9 into Basque. :)

Sorry for the necro but i was wondering, Does this extract the 2d assets of the game? (such as the GUI textures) or is this just for 3d models?

I downloaded Zidane_2's FF9 Fields Viewer but in order to view the game's fields I've unpack the ff9.img file. Zidane_2 developed a tool for this and it's available on a separate Qhimm thread but the download link is dead. I read that Noesis can unpack the files but after doing so I don't see the files laid out in the directories described (EX folder 4 is "fields", folder 5 is "monster data" ect.) Anyone able to post a live download link to the FF9 image file extractor or have advice on how to get the Field Viewer to read the ff9.img file?

Haaaaa.
Zidane's website seems down but it wasn't like 2 weeks ago.
I upload back the img_extractor and the converter. It should be a temporary link, though. I'll upload it for a longer time if Zidane_2 doesn't do it.

EDIT : [link removed] Zidane's website is back !

It's http://zidane_games.webhost.ru/ (the links for downloading the tools are there (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6968.msg88955#msg88955)).

But it goes up and down quite often... At least for me. I'll put my upload link again.

EDIT : here it is.
ffix_img_extr and converter (http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/pastebin_data/kgg5aw/_files/ffix_img_extr.rar)

EDIT BIS (5 years later): I re-uploaded the tools of Zidane_2 in the other topic (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12476.msg257872#msg257872).
