In simple terms, anything that relies on Aali's Driver will not work. These are all the files you would see in the \mods\Bootleg folder after installing Bootleg. We actually already discussed this last year with the 2012 version on the SE store. The file structures between that and the Steam version are identical, so it applies the same way.
Thanks for the link, I shall have a read over the thread just now, currently I now have 2 installations of FFVII on my system, a Steam one with some mods and a full blown Bootleg modded one lol

I'm not getting certain sound effects outside of the music, like Barret slamming on the crate after the first reactor or the alarm on the second train when you're headed to the second reactor. Any sound effects in battle are also not playing. Any help would be appreciated.

this may have already been asked but im just curious. do you have to run bootleg everytime you change something in the BFE?
Basically, let's say you do your Bootleg install and all goes well, right? Well, there's just one problem; you don't like [insert mod here]. So you uninstall FF7 and delete everything there (BUT NOT FF7Mods, JUST FF7 FOLDER), reinstall it, then change your stuff in BFE and run Bootleg. Kind of a bitch, I guess, but you can make an install image and totally simplify all the simplification stuff.

(I couldn't find the rules to consult Qhimm's position on profanity, so sorry if that's against the rules.)

I am trying to replace the dll file to get my configue.exe to not crash but it says its open in another program and it wont let me replace it. I go to my task manager and I cannot shut down the program using the file.

Not sure what to do.

You should be able to do it if you log off your current user and log in as the Administrator. If you don't have the Administrator enabled, here's how to do it:
  • Right-click "My Computer" and select Manage.
  • Navigate to Local Users and Groups -> Users.
  • Right-click "Administrator" and select Properties.
  • Type Administrator as the full name.
  • Check Password never expires.
  • Uncheck Account is disabled and User cannot change password.
  • Click Apply, then OK.
  • Right-click "Administrator" and select Set Password.
  • Set the password as Windows SUCKS (kidding... :-P).

Let me know if logging in as the Administrator user allowed you to move the file.

Hi, I was able to get the mods to run properly after installing, and it played well for the first session played in. I then exited out of the game and came back to play it, so i tried to load the game through BootLoader, and everything ran fine, but when i made it to the menu screen, the game wouldn't take my inputs. Any ideas?

I installed this a couple days ago and it was working fine. Now when it loads up, all I see is a black screen, WITH the sound in the back ground. I have no idea what I did or what has happened. I have tried to uninstall the game completely and reinstall it several times but each time its the same result. Black screen with sound. I have even went as far as re downloading this torrent to see if that was the problem but it didn't fix anything. I have no idea what to do and the search function for the forum appears to not be working.

So i was able to replace the dll file and all is working well so far! I did have one question though. I noticed that some of the music was overlapping. IE the music in the first reactor mixing with the music from the battles.

Hi,

I downloaded Tifa's package and ran bootleg with no issues. I purchased the game through steam. When I run the game through bootloader, the cmd black box comes up and then just goes away. I can't get the game to start.

I have an Nvidia GPU. I also checked to make sure auto-mount was selected. Anyone have any ideas why this could be happening?

Hi there, so I ran the bootleg and everything was installed/unzipped, however, at one stage the ff7config.exe popped up and then said it said it stopped working. So I closed it down and the bootleg carried on.

Once it was done the BootLoader popped up and I made all the configurations and went to start up FF7 and the ff7config.exe popped up again and swiftly stopped working and I had to shut it down. This stopped the game from starting. I assume the reason the ff7 config isn't working is because I have installed FF7 through steam which doesn't use the FF7config.exe unlike the other versions.

I understand the config is necessary for step 9 of the tutorial. Is there a solution for this?

Ok I ran the bootleg, got all the files, and tried to play.
The opening screen everything is black, until I hit enter then a new game starts.
The opening movie is fine however my textures are messed up.
The maps are nothing but red squares  and the game freezes as soon as barret says something.

Most of you guys that are having problems are likely having 1 or more of these 4 issues:
1)you installed the game files to a system folder
2)you do not have updated system files like .NET framework 4.5
3)not running things as an administrator (or you need User Access Controls[UAC] turned off)
4)installing a non-english version has it's own special set of problems; bootleg is designed only with the english version in mind and it will only alter the English versions of files. I'm guessing you have to rename some things if you install a French version and then use bootleg on it.1

#3&4 are fully or partially addressed by installing Kompass63's Game Converter before installing bootleg.
#1 and 2 are mandatory

*If you are playing on Steam, and you want to use bootleg you will have to install steam outside of the Program Files directory. Like C:\Games\Steam. If you don't want to because of x,y, or z I'm sorry but the Bootleg program is complex and we're lucky it works at all on STEAM. You will have to reinstall STEAM if you want to use bootleg... sorry, i know for some of you this is a slight inconvenience.

Same goes for the Square Enix store download: you cannot install it to a system folder like the Program Files directory (which is default) and then use bootleg. It won't work correctly. Use C:\Games\FF7 or something like it.

Also, if you are using the Menu Overhaul :
Quote
1. Do not install Team Avalanche menu overhaul or associated menu files.  This mod will not support it. If you have done, please reinstall our Menu Overhaul Project again.

2. Do not install ANY mod which changes the layout of the menu.

3. Do not install any break 9999HP patchers. Do NOT use aali's driver option for 9999 patch either.  Use the one that comes with this installer.
So, that means don't check the 9999 option in bootloader, either.

The opening movie is fine however my textures are messed up.
The maps are nothing but red squares
Plenuline (or anyone with a radeon HD card) use AMD Catalyst 13.5 beta2 to resolve red triangles/shader issue. You MUST REMOVE your current drivers using the uninstall feature before a system restart and running the install program again putting the 13.5 beta2 on.

1Perhaps this is a good enough reason to overhaul bootleg one more time, even if there is no new driver. I am sure PitBrat could fix it so that bootleg recognized the installed language and modified files accordingly, but there isn't anything we can do about the menu overhaul language incompatibilities

Before you reinstall the game you should even use "FF7 REMOVE Regitstry Keys".

Tifa's Bootleg

Install Tutorial for Bootleg Configurator

*snip*

Hello! First, let me just say thank you so much for writing this guide! I've got it more or less working now, and FF7 has never looked better! :D

However, there do seem to be a few annoying issues that I cannot seem to fix. The first is that the bottom inch or so of my screen is always black when I am not in battle. My screen has a native res of 1920x1200, and that's exactly what I set in the Booloader Configuration, but it doesn't seem to listen to me. It looks like it's only using the first 1080 rows of my screen outside of battle (ala 1920x1080) and refuses to recognize the remaining 120 rows of pixels. The worst part is that this issue does *not* occur during battle! When I'm in battle, every single pixel on the screen is used (if I uncheck "Preserve Aspect", that is), so the game definitely understands what 1920x1200 means. Is there any way to fix this? :-o

Here are some of my Bootloader settings that may be pertinent to this issue: 1920x1200, Fullscreen, VSync 60Hz, Advanced HDR Bloom, Internal Resolution 3840x2160. I realize that 3840x2160 is a 16:9 aspect ratio (double 1080p on each side), but I have tried changing it to 3840x2400 (double my native res on each side) and it made no difference. (By the way, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game+mod about a half a dozen different times now, mainly to test out different options and so forth, and this issue is *always* present, so it doesn't seem like it's an issue with any particular mod that I chose.)

Next, I was wondering if there is a way that I can keep the old FF7 style menus while still enabling certain options such as "Always Run", "Save Anywhere", and "Allow Movie Skip"? It seems that these are tied into the "Menu Overhaul" option that forces me to have the FF9/FF10 menus, which I do not like much. If not, then I might consider using the FF9 menus, but there is another issue. When using the FF9 and/or 10 menus, battle scenes do not fade out properly. When the battle ends, the part of the screen containing the menu goes completely black, whereas the upper part of the screen is still visible. I can understand from a programming stand-point why this glitch might happen, but it's very undesirable. When using the FF7 menus, everything disappears at the same time. (Whether it fades to black, or switches to the next screen instantly, I forget. But it does not have a third of the screen disappearing at a separate time.)

Furthermore, it looks like there's a lot of seemingly important "fixes" that are only available under the Menu Overhaul. I would love to install these without being forced to use a menu that I don't like. :(

However, the FF7-style menu is not without its problems either. I did a fresh install, but I'm getting graphical artifacts in the menus, as seen below. How can I fix this? :-o

(Sorry if the image is too small here. Please right-click and copy the image URL to view the original.)

Lastly, I really love the idea of Grimmy's FMVs, but somehow they have even *more* letterboxing than the enhanced originals! (Well, I've only seen the intro video, but I love the idea already.) For instance, the "Rumbah 1280 Smooth" option gives me an upgrade of the original FMVs that takes up my whole screen if I have "Preserve Aspect" turned off (actually, the bottom 120 rows of pixels are blank, but that's a separate issue). However, the "Bootleg+Grimmy" option gives me an intro with black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen (even when I'm telling the game to just use the whole screen and ignore Aspect Ratio). In other words, if I actually tell it to preserve the original aspect ratio, then I end up with black bars on all 4 sides of my screen! I don't see why that should ever happen. That means I'm staring at a little window inside of my screen, which is not watchable IMO. Is there any way to make it use the full height of my screen? :(

And... that should be about it. Oh, except, where would I find a Tifa battle model similar to the one in this video? I'm not terribly satisfied with any of the Tifa battle models available in the Bootleg Front End (nor the Tifa field models, for that matter), so I'd really love to get my hands on the model in that video! :D (So to speak... ;-))

Thanks in advance for any guidance you may have! :)

There is nothing to be done about the famous "black bar" issue you describe. It's there to account for the fact that old CRT TV's cut this portion of the screen off. Were lucky the battle screens don't do it also.

About the menu overhaul: If you don't want to use it, you need to let the Avalanche GUI install. You can still get Kranmer's run-always patch without the menu overhaul but I don't think you can get save anywhere and skip movies. In Kranmer's words:
Sorry it confused you, to use a DLL you put it in your FF7 root folder, then you need to enter the line
load_library = "FF7AlwaysRunKranmer.dll"
to your ff7_opengl.cfg, but you can only use 1 DLL this way, if you are already using a DLL you will need to use MultiDLL (which can be gotten here http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11564.msg161144#msg161144 and that post always explains how to use it)
But if this is still confusing for you i can make it even easier and make a separate program that all you have to do is run it and then FF7 and all you have to do is press the button while playing to enable or disable Always Run if you want.

But supposedly the upcoming version of the Menu Overhaul will have an original menus option. If so just one more reason to drink DLPB's bathwater.

The movies I'm not clear on what the issue is. Try them out and see which ones work? Seems to me the best vids are a combo between cmh175's and the vids that came with the rerelease.

The Tifa in that video looks like AC Tifa. Whiteraven has adjusted and repaired that model Look in the FAQs section for The Big List of Mods and you'll see pretty much everything available. FAQs section again for help on installing mods.

The first is that the bottom inch or so of my screen is always black when I am not in battle.
The error is known, the many attempts to fix have failed.

...Internal Resolution 3840x2160...
The "internal resolution" is a function of Aalis driver, but he has not been documented, and for good reason.
It increases the memory requirements for the graphics card significantly (and slows it) without a visible effect occurs (at least not with me).

However, the FF7-style menu is not without its problems either. I did a fresh install, but I'm getting graphical artifacts in the menus, as seen below. How can I fix this? :-o
During the installation of the "Avalanche hires" were the Spanish fonts also installed.
You can try to install the mod again (without Spanish fonts) or you can try to install Avalanche GUI v2.0.8

Hi, I have a question. What if I want the original FF7 music, with no change? What options do I choose? I modified only some textures and models and I left everything else on default, but it still showed me that I have to download some files named ffviiremix mp3's.

There is nothing to be done about the famous "black bar" issue you describe. It's there to account for the fact that old CRT TV's cut this portion of the screen off. Were lucky the battle screens don't do it also.

Can I at least shift the picture downward by 60 pixels so that it's centered? :(

But supposedly the upcoming version of the Menu Overhaul will have an original menus option.

Sounds great, I can't wait! :D

Yeah, I've tried the "AC Tifa (Whiteraven)" model, but I don't like it. Looks like he tried to "repair" something that wasn't broken. Can I have the old model plz? :D

I didn't install any other fonts. The game always looks messed up like that if I try to leave "Menu Overhaul" off. :(

Re: [Tutorial] Tifa's Bootleg ff7config.exe problem i cannot solve
« Reply #1047 on: 2013-07-10 18:08:04 »
Ive been reading and reading forums  on how to fix this issue and I seem to have an error that doesnt have a .dll
While running the installation process I had the config.exe crash problem but it let me configure the music files no problem.
I followed the directions listed anyway as I knew I would have to run the config again later.  I just assumed something was acting an ass due to some conflicting program being open or something like that. After installing the mods and opening bootloader the crash happened again when I clicked run ff7.  I read forums on how to solve the issue which led me to the Manager section...
Here is a screen shot of what the errors show. There are 3 counts of the same error happening as it logs whenever the error is encountered and a different error im assuming is important to mention but I will include that info. I will have to copy and paste that error as its too big to show in a screen shot. The antivirus's are also disabled but I still have the windows open in this screen shot. Shouldnt be an issue.

This is the other error log
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

 My computer specs -

 Alienware X51
 i7 3770 intel processor
 Nvidia GTX 545
 6g ram  64 bit OS
 Windows 7
Steam version of FF7 and have saved it to my d drive.  It is still in my steam library but its not in a program files(86x) folder

If there are any other specs I have failed to mention please ask and I will respond right away.
The crash seems to be a common issue and I see the same error log in the screenshots provided in the forums however it seems the .dll errors
involve nvidia.  Im not seeing any of those errors mentioned in the error log so I'm really at a loss for what to do to solve the issue.
Thank you for your time and concern.

Oh, I found it, I think. The Big List of Mods is scary but this stuff is in there. Take a look.  Grimmy's AC Tifa

Yah, I think that's totally correct, you cannot avoid the Menu Overhaul with Bootleg and not get some artifacts. PitBrat did not expect anyone to want to opt out of it. Just wait a couple weeks and Reunion Menu Overhaul will be complete and I think the issue you have brought up will be addressed.

Oh crap, I'll have to try it with that turned off...
