It shows error 105, but I have no idea how to fix it. I went to the edios website, and I think the solution up there is for win 95 or 98, can someone help me out??

XP always has trouble installing FF7. Try the patch(even though it had a 80% chance of buggering up the game;i've had that problem). If you still have problems, are your discs scratched atall? If you still have problems after THAT, give InstallShield a bit of time once it has frozen on 99%. Who knows, it might hav just been checking everything is ok?

which patch should I try?
The installshield doesn't froze, it just show the error message. On the Edios web it says the error has something to do with MS-DOS compatibility, or my hard drive been 16-bit or something, but I have no idea how to change it

Try this download:
http://download.com.com/3302-2103_4-10122632.html?pn=2&fb=0
It's free, so son't worry about that  .
Now, with the error 105 message, what exactly does it say?

The patch won't install unless the game's installed

Setup Initialization Error
Setup is unable to run a program needed to proceed with the installation. Restart your system and try again.
Error 105

Yeah, okay, sephiroth2000, that patch will do absolutely nothing for him considering he is having trouble installing the game! We need to take little steps...and of course consider the guy hasn't even gotten the game to install correctly.

SunMaze: So it gets to 99%...then what? Are the files still placed in the right place? If they are put in the right places and it's just the registry that is screwed up, I (or any of us) can send you a registry file that'll add in the right registry keys to allow the game to run. But you still haven't given us enough information..

SunMaze:You've got into a lot of trouble there. So it shows an error 105 message when it gets to 99% in the downloads. How much memory space does your computer have? Also, have you tried running the InstallShield with all other applications closed?

Sorry I wasn't clear on that, but the actual install never start. It's actually the setup launcher that's starting the Installshield got to 99%, and then the error message showed up.

All right, got it.

I assume you are using windows xp. If so, try running the setup program in compatability modes. But, if you're wondering about the hard drive and ms-dos compatability, you might be able to change some of your hard drive settings in the driver device manager. So try messing around with some settings...

I tried running the setup under both win 95 and win 98/me compatibility, but no luck.
How can I get to the device manager?

Control panel / System

Go to the hardware tab. You can't miss it.

You'll want to look for Disk Drives and IDE Controllers.

I just want to make this perfectly clear:

People should NOT[/b] install the FF7 XP patch that's been running around.  You can get the same results by installing our Chocobo patch on top of the 1.02 patch from Eidos.  Here's why.

Anyway, this is a real (not pirated) version of FF7 we are dealing with, right?

I think these type of options are only available in Windows 95/98... you shouldn't be able to have your hard drive set to any kind of DOS or 16-bit compatibility under Windows XP.
