A Screenshot might be helpful here.

i've had a problem in the past with posting preview images, people look at the preview picture and are too lazy to click on the pictures to see the full resolution and say "OMG, THATS LOW-REZ CRAP"

but you're right, i'll upload some and post direct links with no preview

Please do! I'd love to look how this one looks like. Also would love to watch your outer line project with the pattern you used to be using in your former avatar but you already mentioned that it is impossible to be generated in the FFVII engine since it keeps tiling the line texture.

it is indeed impossible without a mod that changes the way the game uses the border, on larger dialogue boxes the game will take a small part of the border and stretch it across, so any textured spots WILL get warped and look bad, i tried though

but where did you get that image of tifa's glove? i thought about putting that in but was worried it was from an artist that copyrighted it or something

Post by: LeonhartGR on 2020-07-11 18:29:10
I tried to relocate the original image but failed... I remember googling for tifa's gloves and then editing the icon to look transparent and in the right direction. I think it was a gif image and I just ripped off a frame.
Edit: also this handwritten font looks cool.

i still have the pics from the links you gave i think, if you got it from google images should be OK, i'll play around with it

thanks!

so far the feedback says its a love it or hate it type of thing, *I* personally love it as well, adds an element of fun to it for me

but if you hate it, as i said more fonts are coming

Wow, everything looks really nice in those screenshots. Looks unique, fun, clean. Only part that seems out of place IMO is the font/style used in the main menu/limit break text, etc. It looks "dirty" or like a low-res CAPTCHA instead of clean like everything else. The borders look great too. Awesome job. Now I wonder if I can edit my ESUI iro to bolt this on...

if you look in-game, both fonts are actually far from 'clean looking', i went quite heavy on the effects on each  ;D

the newest font that will be coming soon is much, much cleaner and meant for better readability in mind, this font isnt 'out there' like the first 2 fonts included with this mod

screenshot of font coming soon (made with DLPB's font spacing hext template):

eventually this will be one mod you can configure all the options you want, but i'm still actively working on implementing new things, so merging to one .iro will come later as this UI is still very much in a beta state... perhaps even alpha, i've done 100% of the testing and bug fixing myself

things i'm working on:
-creating light colored borders and dark font versions
-implementing my own battle menu alignment
-getting ESUI controller buttons add-on to work with DFUI

edit: crap, forgot to resave the colored fonts after i adjusted the spacing, so some config texts are a little off, this has already been fixed along with an issue with the pause window in battle, when i release the update i'll erase this and add a changelog

ESUI controller addon I plan to rename to vanilla gameplay controller addon (or something similar to indicate its for stock gameplay), and add an option to work on zomiplay font (as its popular), if your font spacing is similar (and icons in same place on font palletes) it should then work on your font as well.

thats awesome!

zomiplay is indeed great, it was really the first HQ font that was available for r06... and most of my work is built on top of it

version 1 in the original post does indeed have identical spacing and controller button placement

EDIT:  this version b update is coming soon, i keep testing and keep finding other things that need tweaked
when i finish the update on the iro of version b, it will be largely issue-free, the changelog will actually have to be condensed there are so many

-pause will be centered in the window
-colored texts fixed
-better alignment on inventory icons
-spacing on capital letters fixed for ALL CAPS TEXT
-spacing improved on numbers and symbols
-many punctuation fixes and tweaks, including fixing some game dialogue errors (game uses wrong set of single or double quotes in many places)
-most importantly... updated the credits, thanks everyone

very large update to the .iro of version b: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pYUTSXgZBDykDAaY5GhUmDAdILdFSimE/view?usp=sharing

the changelog is above, here are some screenshots showcasing the fixes:

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/285894248988016640/743589552324608080/unknown.png
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/285894248988016640/743614639459401808/unknown.png
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/285894248988016640/743615337282535564/unknown.png
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/285894248988016640/743616180434108486/unknown.png
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/285894248988016640/743617301718368276/unknown.png

so this mod has 2 versions and both with 2 different fonts, and i'm also maintaining both of these versions for reunion (which requires different hext codes and spacing, in many cases)
so basically, 4 versions of this mod right now  :?  (when i'm done the 7h compatible versions will all be in one, configurable .iro file)

right now this .iro of version b has seen the most polishing by far

also, there is no .lgp files nor chunks in these mods to maintain maximum compatibility

nice work Ori.
Title: Re: Dual-Font UI
Post by: orichalcon on 2020-08-23 09:19:47
another decent update to version b
 -improved spacing on closed parenthesis
-fixed and cleaned up countless cursor misalignments
-imported some fixes and tweaks from DLPB's Menu Overhaul

nice work Ori.

thanks man! at the end of the day, its just nice to have more options for how you want your game to look, IMO

this is my first crack at modding any game, and i am finding that seeing my work inside of one of my favorite games of all-time feels quite surreal

just made a thinner box border to add to this mod

     screenshots: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/285894248988016640/752463553146912798/FF7_2020-09-07_04-52-39.png

the next update will add this as an option, as well as add everything i've done to 1 configurable .iro
Title: Re: [FF7PC] Dual-Font UI
Post by: orichalcon on 2020-09-19 03:26:02
updated the original post

very large update again:  the configurable .iro with (almost) everything i've done

so in this .iro there are 6 options, 2 sets of fonts (fonts A and B, or C and D) with 3 borders each

i made an additional stock-sized border that there are no screenshots of, it is stockborder2

i fixed the cursors, but am still in the process of fine-tuning the capital letters and punctuation of fonts C and D the way i've already done with A and B
(but fonts C and D are supposed to be wild and crazy, so its less of a deal)

also i suck at making .iros, and the consequence of that is this mod is way larger than it needs to be, as i continue to add new options i'll be forced to use proper methods, but its fine for now

big things being worked on:
already have a set of great looking xbox buttons provided by Agravaile
     dark font/light colored border versions
     battle UI alignment

and much more being planned... including more fonts

DFUI for Reunion just got majorly updated.  This version I was able to work with DLPB to get a few hex codes to iron out the remaining major faults.
The Reunion version (DFUI-R) doesnt have the amount of options the .iro has, this is because of reunion's menu enhancement.  But the pro's of
menu enhancement is DFUI-R has a button mod and better battle alignments that the .iro lacks.

major changes
-this mod comes with new avatars, i personally edited the upscaled avatars from remako for transparency (with crisper lines that have been done in the past)
          https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/724440792126586950/775305612850364416/unknown.png
          https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/749506432130351114/777039541713764372/FF7_EN_2020-11-13_23-15-12.png

     -completely revamped the gauge colors:
          https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/726956405407481917/776865842499551252/FF7_EN_2020-11-13_10-12-38.png
(also take a look at gauge_colors.txt in the hext folder, values are neatly labeled so you can edit them yourself! if you screw something up a backup file is there!)

     -centered battle headers:
          https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/749506432130351114/776891077684625428/FF7_EN_2020-11-13_13-25-52.png

-xbox buttons to go along with the PS buttons:  Thanks Agravaile!
          https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/726956405407481917/776881627572731904/FF7_EN_2020-11-13_12-48-28.png

     -new translation patch
now UI mod can be used without new translation if you desire to turn it off and play for whatever reason, just view new_translation.txt in the Hext folder for instructions

and of course countless minor alignment fixes, links in original post

HAPPY GAMING!

another large update coming in a week or 2, there's so much i need to show a progress report

the very little feedback i've gotten (hopefully one day this will change ) on the main 2 fonts seemed to say dialogue font is good, menu font is not so good, too thin and hard to read

so i kept the same font, but beefed up the letters, here is the new upcoming menu for reunion: (or font B in the .iro when it gets updated, which it will)

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/724440792126586950/782657522048827392/20201129112100_1.jpg

your stream viewers hopefully can see this even better than the vanilla font now

i've also made a timer mod that will be integrated into DFUI, before i used team avalanche's timer, but was never a fan...(more to do with the vanilla image it tries to stay true to) i hate the white-ish scribbles in the background mostly

but i knew what square was going for with those scribbles, an alarm clock type background where you can faintly see all the numerals, so i literally used a segmented alarm clock font to make a set of timers, in the original color and also green and red (most common colors for these displays)

as you see the timer(s) count down, you will notice only segments light up or disappear to make the new numbers, just like a real timer/alarm display

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bRYNSpVlqJ9fwH7-AEM7DZWboKgwp1EL/view?usp=sharing  - green timer

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uHsRBQ6ArtiSEM4e5szChRwR2Rd0pXve/view?usp=sharing - original color (purple) also shortest vid/smallest filesize cuz vid is messed up, if you only want to watch 1 recommend watching green

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1f8R6EuXikFbJ-H5hif_1RSLgJpgZKszf/view?usp=sharing - red timer

DFUI for Reunion just got updated, i keep plugging away trying to make this perfect (can use links in original post)

now if you'll allow me, i'd like to...

     main changes
-7-segment timer graphics mod included (9 colors in 5 different styles, so 45 individual timer graphics to choose from)
-updated avatars (most just cleaned up, but Cloud, Red XIII, and Cid all had strands of hair unsquared)
-redone menu font (thicker, bolder characters - also easier to read)
-fixed problems and then optimized xbox buttons and in-game tutorials
-option to drag and drop controller button images for each controller to either swap the X and O buttons, or A and B on XBox

timer screenshots:
     https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/285894248988016640/790106768881352704/20201220004131_1.jpg

same thing but no light bleed into off-segments

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/285894248988016640/790111753206890496/20201220005852_1.jpg
now no background and different color

of course all styles have an option for the original color (i falsely stated above its purple - its not, its pink... i cloned the exact color from the original timer for the pink color)

and a few more:

updated the original post with a configurable timer .iro that gives the 45 options of the timers i made (9 colors in 5 styles)

it needs to be on top of other user interface mods to work (auto sort will do this), but otherwise is fully compatible with any other mod

look in the above post for screenshots

if your driver is set to use .dds, then the .dds file will be used, otherwise the .png will load and will still work even if your installation cant use .dds

ironically someone else (SkyHawk) made the exact mod you are looking for, it keeps the vanilla font/UI and just replaces the buttons to XB One buttons
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/726956405407481917/772532589189136434/Reunion_XBox_One.7z (this will not work in 7th Heaven mod manager)

in DFUI, PS1 and XB360 buttons are offered, but it replaces the entire UI/fonts with high resolution textures/font sheets

I created a new vanilla-themed UI for Reunion, called Vanilla Theme User Interface ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yISuWaw3JFuDXeedx8R9aeCO4CpkNp5N/view?usp=sharing )

this UI contains 2 versions (can easily swap between the two by dragging and dropping the version you want to use, will completely overwrite the other)
     1) upscaled - literally just upscaled and cut almost everything to keep almost 100% of the vanilla UI
     2) redone - much like upscaled, but the avatars, UI bars, UI timer, and icons have been replaced with better looking stuff that tries to stay as faithful as possible

Upscaled screenshots: (these screenshots use compression, will look even better in-game)

This UI will not be ported to 7H or vanilla, the reason being the following projects are bringing a similar UI: (and also would be a lot of work)
https://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=20331.0
https://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=18573.0

so if you are wanting to use something like this without using Reunion, stay tuned to the projects above

I'm a newb at upscaling, but learned quickly and almost everything i  have learned is thanks to satsuki, as well as Zychronix and theflyingzamboni
from the Legend of Dragoon Discord, thanks fellas!

italian adaptation: <taken down for now, but will eventually come back up)
(the save files were made in English, so those show up in English, when saves are made in Italian translation they will be in Italian)

in the future translating reunion's Beacause script will be much easier, so i hope to work to get this mod adapted with more languages in the future

while doing the version for new threat i finally figured out how to fix the bar guage bugs without DLPB's menu, which i've been working on for many months, so even though the previous
post says this won't have an .iro - i am internally debating it because i've done the work now

hope you enjoy it!

also the .iro of DFUI is going to be taken down and many of its elements scrapped (like font D), so if there is anything you'd like to take a look at in there, then get it now (i plan on taking the best elements and redoing it)

Is this the default font upscaled?

yes it is, i have a feeling i used a very similar upscaling method as Satsuki, but Satsuki/Aavock and I have touched it up differently

Aavock font isn't uspcaled, it's done from scratch to be pixel perfect.
Do it from scratch also avoid the font to be too smooth.
AI upsacling is great to lots of graphics, but for writings/font, it's often too soft or not regular enough.
Another way to do it and get it sharp is to vectorise the source, but the letter don't have the same shape as in vanilla

From my first uspcaling of ff7 some years ago i found no realy good way to upscale properly original font, that's why i now use Aavock great work, it's sharp, accurate... like a genuine font but in HD (and with all chars aligned - in vanilla font, some are not) ^^

makes sense, i figured he used an upscaling as a base at least - thats what i did

all of aavock's work is indeed perfect gradients, alignment, etc

after upscaling i essentially ironed out all the edges by hand, or in some cases swapped the dialogue character to the menu or vice versa

As for my project I did not use ANY upscale method, all fonts (and UI elements) were manually redrawn from scratch and the whole project took me months and it's not even fully complete yet.

i see... i know what a monolithic task that is so i assumed it wasnt done that way - kudos
i know satsuki had a HD menu (where the font looked similar to the font in this mod) that he didnt use and thought you essentially were fixing that, i can tell everything in your UI (thats been done) is fully redrawn though - it really REALLY pops :)

this mod is also not done entirely by me like you are doing, there's quite a few Team Avalanche assets in mine - like battle text and materia menu stuff

that being said i STILL have several weeks work in this even with those huge time savers

all versions of VTUI have been updated

-all versions got 2 versions of splash screens
-all versions got tweaked upscaled bars
-all versions got several menu font characters improved
-redone textures in all versions replaced fully opaque timer with partially transparent one, also much better Cloud avatar
-new threat version has several additional UI alignment enhancements as well as additional gauge bar adjustments

let me show the new splash screens

new upscaled buster sword splash screen:

now that i have a vanilla themed UI in development, i can use DFUI even more for its original purpose - to bring some actual change to the UI instead of the same old thing and inject some fun into it

DFUI has been totally revamped since last version, and i've now officially thrown away enough work to make a whole additional UI ( a very crappy one  :-D :P )

this version introduces a whole new game mechanic, the flashing 'Limit' text or flashing text when you pick up level 4 limits now does 'the wave' in sync with the flashing, actually looks great in-game

in addition, avatars have been fully revamped as well (once again  :-P)

       https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/724440792126586950/840744857684541450/unknown.png - dark background example

the start screen from the post above made by Devina and myself has been added (screenshot in above post as well)
the dialogue and menu borders used to be a tad pixelated, so upres'd from 1k to 4k and made sure it was pixel-perfect
the item bag (satchel) and UI timer, and some bar gauges also got cleaned up and sleeker
       https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/749506432130351114/840842193425661972/unknown.png - item icon
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SU6wFc9AQpgOAQL2NQc6WIA1jWIHbOBW/view?usp=sharing - short video of a battle to see a few things at once, and to see a bit how the mod will look in-game as a whole

unfortunately i also took the old .iro version of dfui down, but once i get these mods into a state i feel is final i'll port them, i may actually put VTUI out there as a theme for ESUI lite in the near future, similar to how the remake theme is for regular esui (if i can get working well)

Did you ever get a copy of esui lite iro? if not I will stick one up on the forum or send it to you so you can look at doing the VTUI theme for it.

Also I will try to get the controller addon changes I promised before done for its next release, based on the stock font spacing, making it compatible with your mods.

yeah, if you could put it on the forum or send to me that would be great

Still going at it with development of these mods... i've updated the vanilla theme user interface

-font is much crisper, looking less and less like an upscaled font, yet retains very true to it, and will continue to get better as its still under development
-has all transparent dialogue artifacts fixed - about a half-dozen characters tweaked by hand as well
-the redone version got improved timer and avatars (now with custom frame, rather than fully transparent background)
-also with redone version, much better item bag icon consistent with the other icons... been struggling with that one
-menu/dialogue box border can now be used bug-free in windowed mode, no bugs even switching between fullscreen and windowed (requires setting internal scale to 6 or higher)
-fixed materia icon misalignments in shop, i am somewhat kinda maybe confident i have fixed all of these... maybe (but probably not)

for the screenshots i am going to show vanilla UI graphics screenshots against the same screen with this mod to try to show how accurate this mod is to the original UI graphics and font

i added Vanilla Theme UI .iro for 7th heaven to the original post, can be configured to 2 different versions, one that includes elements i've remade with small liberties and one that is only upscales and very faithful redrawings

upscaled:

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/749506432130351114/890161004430917662/unknown.png

redone:

you may notice all duplicates of the main UI bars are gone in this version of the mod (status menu, limit menu, and next level bar in after battle screen)
while i dont think anyone is missing the status menu or limit menu bars (just press back to see it on the main UI) the omission of the after battle bar might seem weird because you only have numbers in front of you for the exp

however, i did this because it solves a major (to me) bug in the bar gauges and fillers, where the fill for the bars never line up very well inside the bar - so the loss of those bars is what makes every bar/fill pixel-perfect for both versions of this mod, something that is not easy to do

this update is mainly to the .iro version

-fixed bugs in battle UI (HP, MP, Time texts)
-fixed 'Limit Level X' text inside red limit box
     -added Yuffie coin graphic
-removed one artifact from border bars
-most of the mod is now in .dds

but more importantly, very accurately upscaled the buster sword screen for the upscaled config:

Vanilla

Upscaled config

and by far the biggest part of the update is the addition of the fully modded intros: (eidoslogo movie, sqlogo movie, explode movie, intro credits, logo screen)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Unc7QjAbPBQwv3XJ3gDSRF6JRpdxfZcY/view?usp=sharing

this is by far the best option for having modded intros while keeping the vanilla art style - almost all other mods of the credits draw something else because the opback images are so difficult to upscale OR redraw  (like most of my upscaling work, this is upscaled + doctored by hand)
