General Discussion / Re: Favourite FF game in the series?

The first Final Fantasy I played was 7, and I thought it was the greatest thing ever.
Now after playing 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 11 (500+ days playtime), and 12...the game isn't perfect. The Materia system is a double-edged sword: it allows full customization. At the same time, it takes a lot of the challenge out if you can just stack every character with overpowered magic right off the bat. I much preferred 12's customization: you could have that same level of customization, but you had to work for it for each character. You couldn't just throw a Zodiac Spear on anybody (and everybody) and call it a day, you had to build your characters in that direction. It was a beautiful synthesis between 7 and 9's systems.
However, for the time it was released in, it was mind blowing, and it still sits very high on my personal list of games in general. Its ATB, limit breaks, and side activities (The Gold Saucer specifically) were just great innovations.
8 will forever burn in hell in my book for the simple fact that the game closed the entire world off on me without even giving me a heads up. I like doing side quests all at once after I beat the game, and I only use a single save file when I play a game.
9 had some great game play, story was just god-awful.
10's turn-based system was a little too dull. Yeah, it gave you time to think, but it also took all the pressure off. ATB for life.
It's a little unfair to add in 11, since it's online and always being updated and expanded, but what a game. By the time I finally quit, I had a full set of Saotome Relic Armor for my 75 Samurai, full Shura gear, and 100+ merits invested in all types of added skills. I had all the missions beat, had done nearly everything including defeating the Dynamis Lord and the Jailer of Love (Never even spawned Absolute Virtue any of the times we killed it). I played that game as far as I could. It made you work for everything, but wow...easily the best FF when compared to the others, but again...it's not fair to compare online and offline games.
For me, 12 has been the best one so far. I wish the Espers were more like Summons, and the Quickenings more like interactive Limit Breaks in 8, but man...I sure was getting tired of trying to go across town without triggering 8 random battles every step I took.
