General Discussion / Tool Tutorials?
« on: 2013-07-10 05:57:13 »
Do we have tutorials for any of the tools anywhere; or has anyone made any?  I imagine that we're not only going to get a heightened interest in people who want to play modded 7, but also people that will be interested in making their own mods as well.  It seems like dozens of members have explained the same thing to so many people so many times that if some tutorials existed, it could make things easier on everyone.  I can only imagine how many posts would have been made in the past few days if not for Alyza's Bootleg Tutorial 0_0

omg, maxed out at 400 something the other day and today it goes to 808!!!  Such a small sample size...I guess we can only expect even higher numbers!

You might be talking about Lost Wing and Rebirth.  I know Bosola's Rebirth Changes quite a bit, though I suggest you try it if you're looking for a new FF7 experience.  Lost Wing alters most aspects of the game and is generally moderately difficult for the first 50% of the game.  For the second 50% of the game it becomes extremely difficult.  As far as not hurting enemies goes, you just can't hurt MPs with your sword in the first reactor - all other enemies are susceptible to Cloud's physical attacks and MPs are susceptible to Barret's physical attacks.  You can damage all other enemies in the game with traditional methods.  If you are looking for a gameplay mod that makes minimal modifications to the game, I'm not entirely sure which one you should choose to be honest.

Yeah I'm moving in that direction.  I made the mistake years ago of buying a Gamecube almost exclusively for the purpose of playing Crystal Chronicles >_<  Why!!!

I can't say I don't like the look of the Behemoth, Iron Giants, and the glimpse of Leviathan...they both picked up Iron Giant's sword and about chopped him in half! Ha.  I'll need a bit more motivation than this to leap into the modern console era though.

So many materia combination possibilities!  If KOR wasn't needed for Master Summon I'd throw that thing away every game!

Comet 2 ftw! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7Rs01oeXQA

Haha, semi-annual noob rush. I've been here about 1.5 years now, and I still feel new.

Help me LostWing. I don't know how to install my FF7 game to look like yours. HELLLLPPPPP!!!! pls

Hahaha!  Now just become far less proficient in English and leave out the "pls" and you'll blend right in! - oh and maybe get angry when nobody fixes your problem within 45 minutes of your post lol

And vgr, I feel like your quote needed to be accompanied by a thoughtful looking person looking into the distance.

What quadra magic KOTR glitch do you speak of?  You couldn't link quadra=kotr in the psx version.

We were all noobs at one point. I got two years on you and YOU'RE still a noob to me. :P
Heck, I'm still a noob at some things I SHOULD be an expert at.

I just wanted to be cool dammit!  8-)

Besides I helped one of them today already.  My work is done....right? lol

Cool, hope you enjoy.  Keep in mind though, the first half of the game can be handled without the need for any special tactics.  The difficulty curve just turns into a wall post-huge materia.  Good luck.

FFVII Lost Wing CAN be completed...however, shit gets absurdly hard near the end of the game because I didn't really know what I was doing when I made the mod.  You can get to the Huge Materia quests with a level 40 party, complete the Huge Materia quests with like a level 50 party, you'll need to be like level 60 and really know how to play the game to defeat Diamond WEAPON, and you'll need to be level 90 at least to defeat the Optional Turks Battle in Midgar and be really quite excellent at playing the game.  I am at Proud Clod...and I haven't tried to defeat him with a good amount of effort yet.  But when I did just walk into the battle with a generally equipped party he wrecked me pretty hard.

If you use a trainer or gameshark codes (depending on whether you're playing psx or PC) you can even the scales a bit by giving yourself all the materia and equipment.  If you give your team a bunch of sources you can make it through.  But generally speaking, if you're a casual player, you will be able to make it up to and complete the Whirlwind Maze and then you're gonna start shouting loudly about how much you hate me.

EDIT:  Really, I just made the mod to have a new kernel (magics, weapons, armor, materia) and scene (enemy difficulty) to play the game with.  I figured that anyone that was playing the game 15 years later was using all sorts of mods and knew all about trainers and codes and already had their own preferred way of playing the game.  I just provided some new spells and equipment and made the enemies a bit more fun to fight.  If you try to play LostWing without "cheating" in any shape, way, or form you better be damn confident in your FFVII skills, because I hold my own in high regard and I really don't know if I could beat my own mod without a few helpful little things (like having Aeris in my party for certain battles to use her Peerless Limit Breaks - which in vanilla 7 were super overpowered, but in Lost Wing are sometimes necessary late 2nd disc).  And I always just give myself enough gil to make any purchases I need (3 of every materia, and at least 1 of every piece of equipment).  Good luck, I'd say its worth it if you take everything I've said into consideration.

General Discussion / Re: FF7 Workshop-ish Site

Perhaps qhimm is more than a mere blip on the radar and the site is monitored - but, so far, everything has operated within the "acceptable limits". I mean...there is an active attitude of keeping things legal here.  I don't even like having this conversation lol.

No Attention, Bad.
Some Attention, Good.
Lots of Attention, Bad. - - qhimm is already the #1 search result for "FFVII Mods" Who knows...I think this ship flies in precarious ground but has a good crew.
SE forums show mentions of qhimm in the 10s of thousands of times.

Isn't it wonderful that crisis A is always followed by crisis B merely a few days later?  And circumstances X, Y, and Z only serve to further complicate things.

Baby steps, persistence, moving in the right direction, Faith.  "Keeping your head up" Ha, ambiguously described situations generate generic, blanket advice/support statements.

We may all only care as much as random internet people on a modding site can, but I don't think anyone here would tell you to "Get over it" or "Why can't you just be happy APZ!"

Indecipherable ramblings are fun I think lol.  Good Luck.

Oh.  I think some educators are overpayed.  I think some are underpayed.  The middle 50% are probably adequately payed.  In my own personal opinion based on what I see in Pennsylvania anyway.  I feel that teachers are overall adequate in this geographic area...I'm satisfied with these conditions.

I'm a School Psychologist however.  They wanna pay me about $35k starting in PA...$40k in New York, $45 in Colorado, and $50k in California.  The job is quite stressful.  And I have high aspirations - I want a private counseling practice and to teach adults psychology lol.  I might not be directly helping as many children... but I'll still be directly helping certain people and indirectly helping many more.

7th grade math?  That's a pretty pivotal time period in math for most students I think.  Always good to know there are good educators out there.  Yes, it is high stress, and often lower paying.  I've seen a lot of variability between regions of the country here in the US - in pay that is.  And I've seen a lot of variability in the quality of teachers and administrators in my brief time in the school system as well.  Loving kids and wanting to help people surely helps too lol.  Yes, summer time means a little time off.  I actually may be moving out of the school system and trying to get certified for behavioral analysis.  Could work a decent job while earning certification simultaneously and I think I would enjoy it a bit more and it would be a bit less stress.

General Discussion / Re: FF7 Difficulty Mod Recommendation
« on: 2013-06-17 05:44:38 »
There's that reasonable difficulty mod by hay http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=4759.0

But I've never played it.

Has anyone just made a normal boosted scene mod?  like...someone could make a 2-3x HP, ~2-4X stats, 2X level scene mod and that would suit a lot of players' purposes I would think.

99
Remember.  If you're gonna try playing this as an eboot, nobody has had any real success with heavily modded files yet.  I don't know if anyone has tried with only a few modifications.  You should try to just alter a few simple things and test to see if it works on the psp, and then go from there.

Solved Problems / Re: [SOLVED]ff7 Window Mode Troubles

I haven't played around with it enough to figure out any better solutions at this point.  I've been playing fullscreen, and i forget my window mode settings...I just wanted to make sure I had the capability.  Yeah I change my desktop settings each time.  I'm sure I could do some type of configuration or profile with my dekstop or gfx card settings, but I haven't gotten around to it.  let me know if you figure out anything better in the meantime.
