hmmm I'm afraid I don't follow. I don't see anything greyed out, or any small numbers next to the Text strings. Please explain...

anfrst_1
anfrst_2
anfrst_3
anfrst_4

all of these contain the same exact 72 texts, but the game only actually uses one of those files, so you have to edit the one it uses for your changes to show up.
See my previous post. There are 72 texts, but the script contains the referenes to only some them (and Loveless do show you the used ones). According to Loveless, anfrst_1 uses 4 of those texts, _2 uses 2 of those texts, _3 uses 4 of those texts and _4 uses no text at all.

If you're talking about the text that repeats in many files, then loveless will show you how many times that specific text is used in the script (the small numbers next to "Text x" strings). If it's greyed out, then it doesn't have any references in the currently viewed file.

But, if
does anyone have a list of which of these files the game actually uses?? Or maybe know where I could find one?
actually means that there are multiple files for the same location, and you don't know how to figure out which one the game uses, please, post some names of such files.

You'll need to downgrade your drivers (search the board to find to which exactly). And don't post in multiple threads, saying the exact same thing.

Set the color depth to 16bit.

Which nVidia card are you using?

Did you, by any chance, tried to put your movies to the HDD and forgot to add a backslash ('\') at the end of the path?

Troubleshooting / Re: Vista - No Movies

No movies -> Uninstalling ALL the drivers/codec packs prior to installing TM2.0 has worked for some time. You can install the codecs later, just make sure that the FMVs play fine in FF7.

HiRes -> You can play it in the window (FF7w or Cetra patch), just make sure that the desktop color depth is 16bit.

136
The second link. And I can't help you with riva tuner config, I've got Radeon. IIRC however, something as simple as disabling the FSAA and AF, can be done with the tool that comes with forceware (options available at the display advanced settings). How did you disable it the first time I asked you to do it?

137
Well, it could also be a problem with Windows hiding the file extensions (so the file is actually named ff7.exe.exe), but that's a blind guess. One thing I know for sure: if the FF7 executable isn't named ff7.exe, it freezes on my system - can't skip any FMV, because it doesn't get that far.

138
Mmkay. If you're absolutely sure that the FSAA is disabled (hmm... now that I think of it, Anisotropic filtering should be disabled too), try these:

Download HiRes patch and FF7w. Install the patch and then use FF7w to run FF7 in the window. Check for grids, post back.

139
Ok. Just to make sure that there is nothing wrong with your installation of FF7 - do a full reinstall (backup your "save" folder first!), and remember not to install anything except FF7 (no need to install Movie Player for example). After that, use the clean 1.02 patch (downloadable from the FAQ thread), set the Hardware Acceleration with nVidia TNT fix, and check in game. If the gridlines are still there (they should), post back one more time with an updated version of regedit snapshot.

140
does anyone have any idea what's going on?  Has this happened to anyone?  Please tell me there's a simple fix to this.  Something that I'm just overlooking...
The executable must be named "ff7.exe", period.

As for YAMP - yes, you can change the name of the patched file. Open install.bat with a notepad, and change this line:
Code: [Select]
set main_file=ff7.exeto anything you want.

141
Are you sure that you ticked the nVidia TNT fix in the FF7Config? I need the data from the registry when it's set to hardware mode with nVidia fix enabled.

On a side note, which version (edition) of FF7 is it?

142
(...)Save it somewhere, and then post back with the content of that file.

143
Good for you.

144
Ok, let's go from here:

Fire up regedit (Start->Run->regedit.exe, or WinKey+R->regedit.exe). Search for this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII

Right click it and then select export. Save it somewhere, and then post back with the content of that file.

145
I see. Well, the first thing you should've tried, is to check that you've selected the nVidia TNT fix (not Riva) in the FF7Config. The gridlines should disappear after that move, but seeing that you've said that you already did what was stated in the FAQ thread, just double-check it. If the gridlines are still there (and the TNT fix is on), it means that the FSAA is on, and it's the wrong mode. It's all stated in the FAQ, but I'll repeat here - you have to check which FSAA mode doesn't give you gridlines and use that one. But first, make the gridlines disappear. If it can't be done by choosing the right fix and turning off the FSAA, post back.

O rly? Blizzard giving out something for free? Mind posting a link to that site of Blizzard where they state that?

Well, Blizzard and other gaming companies aren't stupid to state that people can download their games for free. However, there are links where you can download these games and these links have lasted for years without receiving any threats.
... so it's ok to steal! Yup, I see your point.

You know that you can still buy Starcraft? Not just the cdkey, Starcraft with a box and everything inside it. And it's about as old as FF7. But hey, you can also download it! I think that I've seen a site with links to download GTA IV. It's a torrent, but hey, if the site is still up, and it has been for few years, that means it's ok with the game companies! GTA IV is pretty old anywayz.

On a side note, I know of few gaming companies who are "stupid enough" to give away their games (like Rockstar). Go figure? But there are also those companies who are afraid to say so, so... We're aware that they can't say that, but they clearly think that way. No exceptions, they all send a mind transmission to every player on the earth to go and download their games. "If the game is 10 years old then we've milked it as much as we could, so we don't need it anymore. Wait, what? Still in shops? Oh, don't mind it! We've got so much money that we don't know what do do with it! So we just send those new copies of games to the shops and let them sit there, because obviously noone is going to buy it when they can download it!"

Yes, I know that you can download it. You can download many other things from the internet. The thing is, you shouldn't. Or at least, don't brag left and right that you did and nothing happened so it's ok! If you ran over a dog with a car (nothing against dogs, I love dogs, and it's just a twisted example of your reasoning, don't ever run over anything/anyone) in the middle of nowhere, would that change anything? Like, get the police on you? Well, it could, even if there was noone in the 2 miles radius. Theoretically. But nothing happened? Hey, it's ok then!

For warcraft 2, doom 2, mortal kombat 2 you can go to this site which is called best old games:( hope i can post a link to other website here) (...)

For starcraft, you can go this site which even has a community of pro starcraft gaming players. You can download the game I think its around 98 MB or sth: (...)
Yes, thank you! That's exactly what I meant by "Mind posting a link to that site of Blizzard where they state that?". Please, do the world a favour and die.

sorry for being extremely off-topic here
No you're not. I mean, you are clearly off-topic, so am I, but you're definitely not sorry for it.

147
(...)And many popular games in the 90s like (...) warcraft 2 (...) now can be downloaded for free.(...)
O rly? Blizzard giving out something for free? Mind posting a link to that site of Blizzard where they state that?

148
Did what he said and it didn't work. I REALLY want to play this game with good graphics. V.V
So, what exactly have you tried to fix the gridlines? Becuase I think that you've missed one step (and that step is in the FAQ). Please, be as specific as possible.

On a side note, hardware acceleration isn't actually that much better if you compared the graphics in both modes. Yes, it will be faster (and IIRC the colours of the worldmap's minimap pointers will be more intense), but that's probably it. It would matter if you wanted to turn the FSAA on, but still, you won't get an astounding graphics, it's a 12-years old game after all.

149
Yay. Glad you worked it out.
