FF7 Tools / Loveless - a FF7 text editor [v.1 - 2.5]
« on: 2006-12-29 15:56:28 »
Now I did some tests and I've found out that I can alter the other texts in "frcyo" and save without disrupting the codes.
BUT only if I didn't just view those texts containing the codes otherwise it will come to stop working after saving.

And I've noticed a difference. Cosmo utility shows e.g. "[Code:, Ç#&" where Loveless shows "{MODE}‚Ç#&".
I don't understand the coding at all and maybe it's okay that they handle them differently...I just added that just because maybe it can help you track the problem.

Hey I've just run into a possible problem on Chocobo stables (frcyo level).
There are texts like:
Then, give
   Chocobo
   [Code:, Ç#&
   a name.

or

[Code:, `$&    [Code:, Ç#&
   Class [Code:, j$!

which when saved is not displayed correctly in game. Instead of the actual name or class of the Chocobo there are exactly those symbols.

Is there a way to get around this or is it fixable?

Another edit... version levels up.
I've slightlly changed the structure of first post and added step-by-step instrucions in code format so anyone can read it instantly if searching for particular problem.
I've covered the most famous problem lately with ffdshow [rev. 571] decoder which causes a black screen instead of FMV playing with Eidos theme heard in the background after which it freezes.
And I've sightly changed the name of topic so it's more descriptive.

Yeah, that's strange.  :| My discs are originals so I'm still wondering how it comes that there are invalid frames in my FMV. (I've cut them out and the video is playing fine now).

Very strange that issue with Heidegger and even stranger that I've experienced it myself only twice (your save, my save..then I quit skipping the cutscene and it worked). Maybe it's a matter of luck..if you kept trying...

I will tell what difference I've noticed. If it plays fine there is a sailor waiting down there and when Heidegger comes down he will adress him. Since in that issue there was no sailor, Heidegger comes down but there's nobody to address. Funny how intelligent the game is...Heidegger won't start talking because there is no one to address.  Although it freezes. :-(

Tell me if you find something out.

Well I'll be damned. I've played your save, skipped the FMV with Gypt and guess what..the same problem.
I tried again without skipping the anim and it worked. I played A LOT till nearest save point.

So I'd suggest you:
a) Don't skip the FMV if you don't have to.
b) If you have to skip it do it later in the sequence..not at the very beginning (I tried and that worked).
c) If neither worked you'll have to do with the save. But you will miss a lot of plot.

I have a question if you have to skip the FMV. Does it crash at the end of cutscene when the cannon is waiting ready? I've had this issue. It crashed even if I played it in Media player. I was able to fix it, though.

Oh well... did you actually try to disable handling by ffdshow filter?
Like here

I've noticed that with enabled Antialiasing the random crashes are much more likely... About 5 times more often!

I'm not mad nor high and mighty whatsoever. Perfectly calm whatever I'm saying. If you like to read it that way be my guest, that's your way.
I'm trying to do my job and clean my mess.
Why do you need to address it? Are you saying that I'm doing it wrong or that I'm not right with what I said? Somebody has to teach newbies how to address people who spent a lot of time and nerves to create this for free. And that somebody would be at least me. You are welcome if you are to help, Otokoshi.

Young Tifa model is not yet reconstructed in v0.6.

Don't have Riva 128 selected but TNT instead in the first place!

112
Are those problems present on clean install with no patches whatsoever?
If yes that's a nasty problem.
If no try to track which patch causes the conflict.

113
Well provide us with your system specifications... those issues don't belong to the familiar ones.

Great FAQ.. should be sticky. Oh and check this please..

Q.6 Is there a patch or way to make it work?
Perhaps the most common question and the answer is no. Not with a new video card. (All this knowledge comes from NVIDIA mind you. Those that have a Radeon card can try this.)

That hyperlink doesn't work for me... it should be written like this
Code: [Select]

Did you get past it already?
If not send me that save via e-mail... I'm not gonna mess with that shitty megaupload. Guess that's the reason why nobody helped.

To fix the crashes while entering battles use BattleSwirlFix by dziugo.

If the time is the only problem while loading world map and there are no other issues after that I think that would mean your hardware is the key. If you say that removing high-res patch seems to help that's even more likely that you have a performance problem.

What kind of question is this anyway?
Do you expect more sophisticated answer than "simply because it has not been made yet"? Well I'm sorry but I think you won't get another. Authors, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Phlim2, now I hope you have your so wanted answer and it helped you much 'cause it don't seem very helpful for anyone else.

naaaah.. it's not that important. Everybody is able to understand even when you don't use the symbols above letters. But the pronounciation sound funny if it's read aloud.  :-D

Edit: btw, your project is linked here...
Loveless    [In progress]
A very usefull text editor for for Final Fantasy VII.  You can even take the french version Here if you like.

...and since you change the name of .zip file with every new version the link becomes invalid. You may want to use single name and mention the version number inside archive to avoid this.

- YES you can type most of special characters directly. Some of them are very special and Loveless can't write them into FF7 simply because.... FF7 does not support them =/. The only way is to type the right combination with Alt + a Number or copy/paste from Character Table of Windows.

 I don't need to insert them that way because I have them directly on my keyboard. But if I use them they don't show in the preview area.. like if no letter was inserted. Does that mean FF7 doesn't support them and there's no way at all to see them in game?

Maybe I will add this kind of special char. in the toolbar in the future (it wiil be faster to isert them :p). If you want, tonight I will provide you the whole list of the characters available in FF7.

Maybe it's unnecessary work. You know, if someone uses those characters in his native language there is high probability that he has them on the keyboard and that's the fastest method fo inserting. But it will be nice if you write them down (or point me where to find them) to be absolutely sure if they are available.

Thanks for your support, Squall78.

You're right.
I'll back it up at corel as soon as it's back on.
EDIT: Done. Though I've noticed the download speed is much much slower and respond time is quite longer. Well, at least it's backed (or replaced would seem a better word).

Nevertheless there were very few dropouts in the history of university's servers and this one particulary is the longest I remember. Nice Xmas present for them and for us as well.

And I'll fix those glithes in ff7music.ini... thanks for tracking that.
EDIT: Done.
