General Discussion / Re: Cloud's parents
« on: 2010-06-05 16:56:38 »
his dad died when he was 'very young' as cloud says in the kalm flashback i believe. he went to war against the wutai, with shinra i believe? if that's the case if makes you wonder why he isn't mentioned more
nah he didn't go to war with wutai. cloud joined shinra because of what sephiroth did in wutai. and zack/cloud's memories says how he picks up every job he can take because the wars over and he wants to be a hero.

For your information Hemoor, I work out 5 days a week.
Also, it's terrible advice to tell someone to eat less. Eating healthy is the way to go, not eating little. ^^
I'm also part asian, but if you wish to call me an asian wannabe then I'll be proud to be one because that's who I am. :-D

Here's some friendly advice to you: stop judging people by their appearances. It's a sign of insecurity, so you might pass as an insecure person.
good to know you're staying healthy. but i think you're working out too much =P. ideally you want a day of rest between workout days so your muscles can recover + grow. unless by workout you mean like cardio/running/stuff like that? cause you can do cardio everyday for weight loss. girls who squat have very sexy leg muscles. :] just thought i'd try and help, sorry if you've already got a workout plan.

im guessing enemy skill ???

well here's what I did. i did a clean install of FF7, and downloaded true motion codec 2.0. I think you can get it from the qhimm wiki customization site. then patched. my problem was that i was messing around with the game since starting FMV glitches on me. Also make sure you're in 32bit colour.

General Discussion / Idea to Rework FF8 battle system.
« on: 2010-06-03 20:26:22 »
I know this Board is mostly dedicated to FF7. But it's often overlooked sequel brought many things to the FF franchise as well. Like its predecessor it brought to the gaming world, a touching story, hours of engaging gameplay, and lovable characters. However, FF8 also brings stunning graphics that made FF7 look extremely pixelated and blocky. With realistic looking characters, graphics that had not been seen before, and a soundtrack to rival FF7's, one would expect FF8 to be a worthy sequel. Unfortunately the reason FF8 is often overlooked is what I believe to be a pretty huge flaw.

As many of you know FF8 has always had a rather controversial battle system. Many people (myself included) find that the battle system to be a bit of a letdown from FF7. When I first opened FF8, I saw the beautiful opening the FMV, the duel between Squall and Seifer and I remember thinking to myself "wow." I ended up playing the game, and I found it to be an amazing experience (my all-time favourite FF), though not without faults. The fault with FF8 was that the battle system didn't really encourage customization. It wasn't as open ended as FF7; playing through FF8 I know I constantly thought, man where the hell is my all materia or damn it's time to draw 100 meteors. FF8 is a beautiful game, I greatly enjoyed the story and the FMV's and the introduction of the realistic art style to the FF series but I did find the following faults with the game that had potential to really ruin the experience.

1. The fact that Enemies leveled with you. This might not sound bad, but as they level they only gain more abilities so in the end they end up stronger than you as you level (making it advantageous to NOT level). So most people simply just refuse to level their characters and comboed with Diablos enc-none they practically stayed low level for the entire game. It felt kind of like it went against the rule of RPG's for a party to defeat Ultimecia at level 7.

2. The junction system. There was no customization aspect to junctioning stats; rather it was draw 100 of a spell and then put it in your attack stat. I liked the Status Effects and Elemental Attacks part a bit more because there was no clear "best spell."

3. Triple Triads effect on the strength of your characters. Basically right after you beat Ifrit you load up on 100 tornados through TT and cardmod. Then you continue to pretty much kill all enemies in 1 hit for the remainder of disc 1.

4. The limited quantity of abilities in the game. Deathblow, Morph, Mime, Coin, Enemy Skill, Throw, Manipulate, Steal As Well, All, 2x cut, etc etc, were all taken out. This left FF8 to be very nonstrategic with pretty much everyone doing the exact same thing for all their characters.

5. The draw system. Tediously boring. Removable overpowered equivalent to sources in FF7. The draw system basically worked like this, draw 100 of a spell, then proceed to never use them again so you don't lose stat bonuses.
----------------------------------------------
So my idea would be to rework the battle system a bit.

1. Instead of having the monsters level up with you, use a standard RPG 1-100 level monsters. (In order to make difficulty adjustable, as opposed to running around as level 7 and having a picnic throughout the game)

2. Change the rewards of Triple Triad.

3. Replace the AP system on GF, with maybe like a sphere grid thing. Perhaps something that looks like FF10's sphere system, but make it so that you only start off with access to several spheres. Then as you go outward make it so that all the spheres are blank; sort of like empty materia slots. As you go outward you can learn different skills, such as the ones that are missing from FF7, such as 2x cut or mime. However only certain GF's can learn certain abilities. While maintaining the screen where you select which abilities/boosts you want from you GF's.

4. Instead of drawing, magic is learned from GF's. MP system should be added or perhaps no system; permit magic casting without limit but instead gradually weaken if used consecutively.

5. Removal of the junction system. To remedy the low stats caused by this (characters have extremely low base stats because they are expected to junction) base stat growth should be increased.
--------------------------------------------------
I know this would probably be a huge project, but I really loved FF8, and I feel it doesn't receive the love it deserves. Often overshadowed because of its slightly lacking battle system, FF8 could be much much better if the battle system were to undergo an overhaul. I don't expect anyone to do this, it's merely an idea and a plea to rework one of the underappreciated FF's of the series. I know you guys are already overworked, and do not have much time to spare, but if you have the time, I really would love to see a reworked FF8.

158
yeah it should work for xp. is there a way i can get it to go faster at the cost of quality? my computer uses an intel graphics card =/

159
thank you very much. my ff7 is working perfectly now, the help was greatly appreciated :].

you guys are fantastic :]

FF7 Tools / Re: Official Black Chocobo Help Thread
« on: 2010-05-31 18:16:57 »
well i'm having a little issue with your program. whenever i try to change the AP on a materia equipped to a character it refuses to change and instead stays at a value around 1600000 or something like that. no matter how many times i click.

161
can you guys confirm something for me real quick? shouldn't take you more than a second.

is the reason my movie folder looking like this because my computer cannot support most of the movies? Only some actually have the thumbnail, most others just have the standard thumbnail for .avi's. Also when I click the ones without a thumbnail (all of them except canon and canonh3f) windows media player just closes on me for no reason (I get an error then it closes).

I tried a clean installation with Titeguy3's patcher.
Some of the errors I've encountered:
http://img85.imageshack.us/i/newbitmapimagexh.png/ (apparently the image is not loading and it's replacing with words exter)
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/7352/newbitmapimagegh.png (what it looks like when I load my old game)
I cannot run in resolution higher than 320 x 240 otherwise it crashes
If I start a New Game it crashes automatically because I have issues with the FMV. (It is one of the FMV's without a thumbnail)
When I do run in 320 x 240 I find that the starting FMV only shows a quarter of what it should (the top left quarter) effectively creating an FMV four times my laptop screen. (I'm using Aali's Driver --> Screen Res set to 1366 x 768 fullscreen = yes)
Noticed I'm fighting Boss's I shouldn't be. Fought the Hundred Gunner instead of Hojo's samples, fought the steam roller dude on the rooftop instead of rufus, and instead of the steam roller I fought two normal enemies from the cavern near midgar zolom.

« on: 2010-05-30 21:42:58 »
Great mod.  This has made the game fun again.  I always felt this game was way too easy.  Been using it in conjunction with the remix patcher and am on disk 3 and I don't see Ruby Weapon roaming the coral desert.  Has that enemy been removed or am I just forgetting something that's supposed to trigger it (If I am, don't tell me what it is please)?

yes you need to do something to trigger it.

guitar for the ladies. =P

164
I think most of the mods that he included in the patch needs Aali's driver to run properly and for it to show properly too. You're not using the OpenGl Driver??

when i use his patch OpenGl crashes for me during one of the FMV's at the very start.

though I do have a good amount of mods working I believe.
high res cloud. high res barret. i think i have his modified normal game one (since I stole Shinra Beta from Reno), NPC reconstruction project, and probably several others, but I'm only in Shinra HQ on this replay. I haven't tried Hardcore yet b/c when I did play it, I got bored from grinding =/ I was kinda looking for a mod where I wouldn't have to grind but monsters can actually hit decent damage.

165
Just curious, on the customization wiki it says your patch "Fixes bugs, smartens AI, adds re-translations, slightly increases difficulty, and modifies Spells/Items/Weapons/Armor/Materia while keeping true to the original game concept." I'm currently at the Shinra HQ, and don't really notice too much difference. Though I'm not using your patch exactly. I patched my FF7 however, my laptop has compatibility issues with Aali's OpenGL driver, so basically I just copied all the files in the battle, patches, plugins, shaders, textures, movies, and ficedula folders onto a clean installation, while replacing FF7.exe with your FF7.exe. And replacing FF7Config with FF7config 1.02. (So theoretically I should notice a difference right? since I am using your battle.lgp/scene.bin etc) Just wondering, because I haven't really noticed a difficulty increase in my game =O

I'm just wondering what you changed in the actual gameplay aspect of it? as well as which items you added.

Just wondering how much you edited, because now that I think of it Reno shouldn't have allowed me to steal a Shinra Beta. I looked it up, says Reno has nothing to steal.

166
i was just wondering if maybe you could make a checklist of which patches to install on the remix patch. cause some people don't want/aren't compatible with all the patches. i hope it doesn't take too much time though =/

General Discussion / Combine Crisis Core with FF7?
« on: 2010-04-23 21:19:31 »
I was wondering if you guys could combine FF7 with crisis core. Because the stories are intertwined perhaps whenever Cloud get's a flashback (say the one at the first mako reactor at the start of the game) instead of flashing back to the the nibelheim mako reactor he flashes back to a memory of Zack. Because the story of FF7 was a bit confusing and more staccato then legato. Disjointed rather than smooth. I think that Crisis Core combined with FF7 could really have a clearer story and understand the motivations and influences behind the way FF7 turned out. I mean when Aeris drops the hint about knowing a soldier 1st class how many people knew it was Zack? Wouldn't it have been better if it was a flashback to Zack than an ambiguous hint that could be interpreted either way? Crisis Core explains a lot about FF7 and it was a pretty good game as well. Crisis Core would deepen the emotional impact felt by the players. Two great games intertwined could be compiled into perhaps a greater masterpiece than either standing alone.

My OS: Windows 7 64 Bit Home Edition

I tried what you said but my FF7 doesn't fill the screen. (My screen is 1366 x 768 and it fills up everything except maybe a 1 inch column on the right side also it doesn't play in full-screen for me because I still have access to my toolbar which is up top). Also the whole game just blanks out (except for the column on the right and toolbar up top) after I hit New Game.

My FF7 directory is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII

Btw, Is there a way to increase the frame rate because it's rather slow for me.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, and I really appreciate your help.

Hi. I'm really interested in your Mod Compilation. It looks extremely interesting, the hard mode mod,the graphics upgrade and all of the simplicity combined into one. I was extremely excited to play FF7 (replaying it) and really wanted to play one of my favourite games of all time at a higher level. The only problem is that I can't get it to run past the part where it says "NEW GAME"

I ran FF7 without the patch and it works fine (well I only tested it up to the part where you actually gain control of Cloud)
however, with the patch it goes something like this.
1) The scene of the night sky and Sony Computer
2) The New Game / Continue Screen
3) Then when I hit New Game, the game goes back to my background and it says "Windows has encountered an Error" and crashes on me.

My Specs-
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 gHz Processor
Windows 7 Home Edition
Mobile Intel GM45 Express chipset
4 GB DDR 2 RAM
Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

I also have Direct x11 (don't know if that matters)

BTW this is just a thought but I think you should put like check boxes allowing the user to select which mods they want installed. I'm really interested in your mod and I think that it'd help a lot of noobies like me if you did. (I saw your youtube video, and I have to say that I don't wanna go back to the old Final Fantasy now that you've given me taste of the forbidden fruit =/)

EDIT: What I do is.
1) Install Final Fantasy 7 then put in Disc 1
2) Then I run your remix patcher. It says everythings good and asks me twice if I want to change stuff in the registry. I hit yes both times.
3) I run the normal FF7 and as well as the hard mode mod and neither are going past the very start of the game where it shows the night sky and aeris and the train.
(I've reinstalled FF7 and the patcher several times)
