What's illegal on these forums is copyrighted content, aka models ripped from another game. If that content is fully fan-made, and was converted to work with a different version without being changed, that is not outright forbidden, but the final word goes to the original mod author.

If you don't want to mod your game right off the box, nobody forces you to, and you can always add mods halfway through if you want :)

To see which files correspond to what character, see the FF7 file reconstruction project by halkun. As for the difference between external files (usable through Aali's driver) and LGP-repacked files, it's mostly a matter of choice and work for both the mod creator and end user.

As for using Aali's driver versus not, I would strongly recommend downgrading your game and applying Aali's driver. You don't need any of the features the Steam version offers, and most of the mods work only on the older version.

This is an interesting breakdown. I don't seem to remember seeing this file in the game's files though (and I'm not home so I can't check); where is that file and do you know what is its purpose?

Bootleg is officially dead, and 7th Heaven is now the tool you want to use instead.

Bootleg is an extremely old project, its legacy code is a mess, and 7th Heaven is doing a much better job at what it's meant to do. I am going to briefly go over the reasons why Bootleg is dead.

- 7th Heaven has long superseded it;
- It's old, and has gone nearly 3 years without a single update;
- The old codebase is beyond hopeless, it's a wonder it even runs;
- I don't have time nor will to work on a project alone without any help;
- I prefer to focus on other projects.

Consider this an official notice from the only person that was still involved in Bootleg. I will now move to do other things. I may or may not remain active on the forums, but Bootleg is now an artifact of the past regardless.

I would suggest using 7th Heaven instead, it's cleaner, better, and is actively supported. It's basically Bootleg's successor.

@Sora - The new driver and Bootleg are not directly compatible, and neither are Reunion and Bootleg, but I bet you knew that. There's not much I can do about it any more than you; the last time I tried making these work with the current Bootleg it failed horribly. Send me a PM when you get at that point, I'll see what I can do.

You should probably host the code on GitHub or similar; it even offers a way to have a website directly from the code in one of the repositories! You don't need to do that though, but having the code open-source sure would be nice.

The log looks fine. Try to select a different temp folder, such as D:/Temp or something like that. This is the only thing that comes to mind right now. Will take a deeper look at your settings a bit later.

Your location is under FF7/mods? Don't you mean just FF7? As for the original mod location that seems fine from here. Without any further information I can't tell what's wrong. Please post the contents of your LastUsed.bp (found in the Bootleg folder) and bootleg.log (found in the FF7 folder) files.

The short answer is that you need to reinstall. Running Bootleg over an already-Bootlegged installation is not supported and can yield very strange and uncommon bugs.
