Can someone help me run FF7 in hardware mode?
« on: 2009-01-26 05:28:52 »
I remember being able to do this on current hardware seeing as my PC does not support the 8bit palette feature im having problems running it in hardware mode. I selected the Nvidia option and Rivia 128 and the game looks absolutely fantastic except for this

http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee18/Troopermanaic/?action=view&current=dhdfhdshdzdz.jpg

there seems to be squares all over the place ALSO some text seems messed up. If I was able to find a way to fix those problems than the game would seem hi def to me and thats what I am trying to achieve.

PS~ I already have the 1.2 patch installed as well as the 1.4XP patch.

Everything explained here. Check the 1.04 "patch" part, grid/garbled text. In short, no such thing as 1.4 patch, 1.04 patch is still not really a patch, and the corruptions in graphics appeared because you chose the wrong fix. Post in Tech Support next time (that is, if you still got some issues).

So, what exactly have you tried to fix the gridlines? Becuase I think that you've missed one step (and that step is in the FAQ). Please, be as specific as possible.

On a side note, hardware acceleration isn't actually that much better if you compared the graphics in both modes. Yes, it will be faster (and IIRC the colours of the worldmap's minimap pointers will be more intense), but that's probably it. It would matter if you wanted to turn the FSAA on, but still, you won't get an astounding graphics, it's a 12-years old game after all.

I am useing a monitor with 1600x1200 resolution so the no AA makes the game look like garbage for me.

I took some comparison screen shots BTW this may not seem noticeable right away but if you look at the comparisons you will see why I want to run in hardware mode ALSO in software mode everything, includeing the background seems alittle blurry and puts strain on my eyes. I hardware mode everything is much more crisp.

Heres software mode main screen to show how much the pictures look better in hrdware mode

hardware

and heres how much better the 3d looks in hardware mode also notice the background is less blurry in hardware mode.

I see. Well, the first thing you should've tried, is to check that you've selected the nVidia TNT fix (not Riva) in the FF7Config. The gridlines should disappear after that move, but seeing that you've said that you already did what was stated in the FAQ thread, just double-check it. If the gridlines are still there (and the TNT fix is on), it means that the FSAA is on, and it's the wrong mode. It's all stated in the FAQ, but I'll repeat here - you have to check which FSAA mode doesn't give you gridlines and use that one. But first, make the gridlines disappear. If it can't be done by choosing the right fix and turning off the FSAA, post back.

its still not working, heres what I have done up to this point. I have the 1.02 patch installed- and the rivatuner.cfg edited to their specifications, also I have 8bit disabled. Nothing works the lines are still there.

Ok, let's go from here:

Fire up regedit (Start->Run->regedit.exe, or WinKey+R->regedit.exe). Search for this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII

Right click it and then select export. Save it somewhere, and then post back with the content of that file.

Are you sure that you ticked the nVidia TNT fix in the FF7Config? I need the data from the registry when it's set to hardware mode with nVidia fix enabled.

On a side note, which version (edition) of FF7 is it?

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII]
"DataDrive"="My Virtual CD-ROM Drive!!!"
"AppPath"=".\\"
"DataPath"=".\\Data\\"

"Options"=dword:00000012
"DriverPath"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\MIDI]

"Options"=dword:00000000
"SFXVolume"=dword:00000064

this is when the TNT box is checked.

ALSO I have the regular ff7 version it comes in a white box not the blue box version.

Ok. Just to make sure that there is nothing wrong with your installation of FF7 - do a full reinstall (backup your "save" folder first!), and remember not to install anything except FF7 (no need to install Movie Player for example). After that, use the clean 1.02 patch (downloadable from the FAQ thread), set the Hardware Acceleration with nVidia TNT fix, and check in game. If the gridlines are still there (they should), post back one more time with an updated version of regedit snapshot.

Mmkay. If you're absolutely sure that the FSAA is disabled (hmm... now that I think of it, Anisotropic filtering should be disabled too), try these:

Download HiRes patch and FF7w. Install the patch and then use FF7w to run FF7 in the window. Check for grids, post back.

The second link. And I can't help you with riva tuner config, I've got Radeon. IIRC however, something as simple as disabling the FSAA and AF, can be done with the tool that comes with forceware (options available at the display advanced settings). How did you disable it the first time I asked you to do it?
