Troubleshooting / Re: Screen tearing with FFNx installed.
« on: 2020-05-16 15:21:37 »
So I recently started a thread about random crashes in-game, and somebody helpfully linked to something called FFNx, which I installed.  The game runs, and hopefully doesn't crash, but now there's pretty bad screen tearing whenever I walk around.  I read somewhere that you should modify a config file to read fullscreen=no, which I did, but it didn't fix the issue.  I also tried turning the FFNx config fullscreen=no, and that didn't help either.

EDIT: Oops, I'm a dummy, I forgot to turn on vertical sync, LOL.

Glad you got it installed and working. Though, V-Sync should be on by default? Are you are saying you turned it off and later forgot you did that?

Finally this has its own thread here!  ;D

This is truly an amazing piece of free software made by someone with so much passion and respect for this community. Thanks for all you do Odin you are a true legend

(thanks for the shout out and link to the guide in the op too Odin  :-D )

you could wait weeks/months for 7H 2.2 to come out, or you could install FFNx and it will fix the random crashes. read my faq here if you want a walkthrough on how to install it

Ah, now that you posted that error in english, I can see that it is most likely an error resulting from Windows Defender screwing you over. You shouldnt have to install cheat engine to fix this if you dont want to. Open windows defender (click start and then search defender, it will come up) then go to the settings tab and add the file location to the white list, as well as the exe file of the speed hack to the process white list and it should work

@oatbran....this message wasnt directed to you....so no need to defend yourself sir.....Ive been sick....lol funny how KARMA works....

I would be even more confused if the message was directed at me lmao. Just letting you know that the majority of people most likely don't dislike or have anything against you. Those that do, are not worth the stress to even think about

31
I dont hate you, I dont even know who you are lol. Havent seen you around the discord either. The vast majority of everyone I have met in this community has been an awesome and courteous person. I don't know how the karma system even works on this forum, it seems to be just aesthetic in nature and I also don't know how to affect someone elses karma. Why put that much stock into someone trolling you on a forum anyway. You do you and just ignore the haters, that should be the #1 rule on the internet.

Edit: Lol, I guess with this being my 20th post on the boards, the like/dislike thing for the karma just appeared. How ironic.

7th Heaven / Re: [FF7 PC] Mod Manager - 7th Heaven 2.0

Hi guys, I love 7th heaven, I really admire the work of all moders here.
But this problem is happening when I turn on the "Speed Hack" mod, which in my opinion is one of the most important for an excellent gameplay experience.
I have been told that I needed to disable my Windows Defender (my only active protection) or add 7th heaven to my permissions, I have already done both options but I am unable to fix this error. Could someone please help me in any way?

Once again, thank you for your excellent work.

Thankful.

Are you using FFNx (Stable)? I think that breaks the speedhack mod, so if you are then you need to switch to Canary to fix it.

If thats not the case, then, at least from looking at the picture and error messages it seems like its having trouble launching the executable for the speed hack. Running 7H as admin?

The speed hack itself is just packaging default functionality that Cheat Engine itself provides, so you should be able to do this yourself very easily and cut the speedhack mod out of the launching process altogether. Thats all I can suggest maybe someone knows more about your specific issue.

7th Heaven / [FF7] 7th Heaven+FFNx Guide&FAQ
« on: 2020-05-09 15:55:25 »
There has been many issues and questions arising from using 7th Heaven v2 recently.

7/3/2020
Attempting to manually solve these issues to optimize your FF7 modding experience can become a complicated process. Not only can it be complex, it is completely unsupported by the 7th Heaven team, and will never be recommended or supported. If you continue to pursue any of the modifying-7H-stuff then you are warned, and you should assess the risks and benefits (as well as your technical skill level) before you decide to jump in. There are, however, other sections of the guide that include useful information and techniques to improve your modding experience while also using the default 7H experience, so I still feel it has value until those things become irrelevant as well. I still may delete the guide soon based on response to this.

Until 7th Heaven is updated, or another modding solution is released, I wrote this guide to help people in the interim. It is extremely detailed and laid out step-by-step. It covers every common issue I have heard people come across and provides a walkthrough and solution for the following.
  • I Own a Copy of FF7 on Steam is there a simple modding solution?
  • Using many HD mods causes FF7 to crash frequently!(after battle or in the field) [7H v2.2+]
  • How do I manually update 7H with FFNx?
  • How do I change my FFNx Configuration?
  • 7th Heaven gives value cannot be null error. What do I do?
  • FF7 Feels slow/choppy with FFNx and many mods. What can I do?
  • How do I install DDS texture packs?
  • How do I convert my own mods to DDS?
  • I'm lazy, can you change my FFNx.cfg file for me?

Again, here is the link to the guide. I had to put it off-site because these forums do not support markdown language and the guide was formatted and written for markdown before I realized this fact. Sorry about that.

The need for this guide may not exist at some point in the near/mid future. Whenever that happens someone can delete this thread if they so desire.

UPDATE 7/3/2020 - is also at the top of the guide itself

# HEY USER READING THIS GUIDE!!!
**7th Heaven now uses FFNx natively with a default installation!, you dont have to manually alter the 7H installation anymore to solve common issues caused by the use of the legacy Aali driver. However, 7H gets updated fairly rarely, and is actually in beta right now. FFNx actually gets updated daily pretty much, so if you want to use a canary version of FFNx, or possibly a stable version upgrade that is released ahead of its incorporation into 7H itself you may want to still follow the contents of this section, but depending on factors at the time it may provide relatively little value to go through the effort. FFNx is only rapidly updated currently in the pursuit of major features and bug fixes at this stage in development. this will slow down at some point and become less and less relevant to even consider the already-questionable decision to try and mess with the default driver included with 7H**

**If you would rather just play with the stable version chosen for the release of 7H but you want to either:
learn how to acquire and use IRO mods in the first place, click here.
or just convert/use all DDS texture mods for enhanced performance: click here.

**You can also manually change all the config options that are not included in the UI of 7H.
as well as change the UI of 7H itself but i havent written that yet - if people even want to know how to do that or want me to just make a custom xml to be distributed here then let me know!

34
That isn't remotely the issue here.  The source code for aali.dll has always been free and open - but will now also be public.  That isn't why this mod is removed.  It's removed because a member here believes calling a function from my dll to aali.dll also breaches gpl and it doesn't - because there is wild debate online about that - AND on the wiki page about it.

I am more than happy to upload aali.dll code - which is being done.  That isn't the issue here - so please stop getting involved and causing trouble.  This does not concern you and you have absolutely no idea what you're on about.

From all my research and understanding of this topic and context, you actually are/were in violation of the GPL. Your main defense of "its dynamically linked so it doesn't matter" is irrelevant here. You claim theres wild debate about this online, and even dispute on the GPL wiki page, and you are correct. There WAS massive debate on this topic seemingly because of ones interpretation of GPLv2. Everything you have linked is from over 10 years ago. All of the wiki citations are from even longer ago - from 1992-2006. The debate over linking in GPLv2 doesn't matter because aali.dll is licensed under GPLv3 and not GPLv2. According to the FSF, if your work links a library at all it is a derivative work and the entire work is subject to GPL. Even this is clarified on the wiki page you say is in dispute.

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.en.html#GPLStaticVsDynamic

It's been shown that you do in fact link aali.dll, and if you say you don't need to do that, then why have you been all this time and distributing it anyway? Why take the risk?

It's likely none of this would have happened in the first place if you hadn't gone out of your way to slander people.

so, maybe its you that doesn't know what you're on about. It's at the very least the complete opposite of a non-issue - and definitely not something I would want a lawyer or judge reviewing if I was in your position.

From what I understand,

Code: [Select]
COMException (0x800401F3): Invalid class string (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800401F3 (CO_E_CLASSSTRING))
is a general error meaning that some DLL is either corrupt or is not registered on the system. (meaning the class name being invoked does not exist) Try  re-downloading and reinstalling 7th heaven

if that still doesnt help, try running these commands in an elevated command prompt and see if it helps.

Code: [Select]
regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\msscript.ocx
regsvr32.exe jscript.dll
regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll
regsvr32.exe wshom.ocx
regsvr32.exe msxml3.dll
regsvr32.exe -i shell32.dll
regsvr32.exe OLEAUT32.DLL

If it is because of a missing DLL on your actual windows installation, then idk which one it would be, there is probably some .net runtime you would need to install or some express runtime its hard for me to say

36
I edited it and saved. Still no change however.

Hash tags ( # symbols ) denote a comment line in the config file, you need to remove those from example lines so the value is actually read at run time

window_size = 2560 instead of #window_size = 2560

I can't read your post but

The other thread has since been locked.  Please don't continue it here.  You've had your say on that thread.

7th Heaven / Re: Intermittent Crashing After Battles
« on: 2020-05-04 15:04:21 »
The current version of FFNx will not be in 7H 2.1. It is our first update since 2.0's release and the focus has been ironing out several small bugs and a couple of major ones, as well as adding some nice new features to 7th Heaven. An update to the latest stable release of FFNx is on the roadmap for 7H 2.2, as has been discussed with TrueOdin.

Also, I want to clear up a misconception. an early FFNx is already in 7H 2.0. The slightly altered version in 7H 2.0 was to remove a crashing bug that affected world map and spell textures, as well as to clean up the cfg file and UI to be as simple and user-friendly as possible plus setting the best defaults from our testing. These are not competing drivers and I have no desire to maintain a fork of one. It was the most recent and stable version of it at the time 7H went into beta.

Just after release, I started playing with FFNx and unfortunately it was not something I was happy with stability or performance wise. I stand by that assessment even if it may be taken personally, or is unpopular because people wanted The New Shiny Thing (tm) right NOW. I could have expressed my frustration with it better; one of my flaws. With that said, FFNx has had a couple more months to "bake" and many more people are starting to use and test it so I see a lot of bugs being found and fixed. So, when 7H 2.1 is done, focus can be started to integrate an updated FFNx (which should be even better by then) with 7H 2.2 without half-assing it.

Fair enough, I totally get it and I appreciate the clarification. Its hard to get all of the information about active development and implementation of different drivers/managers/mods whatever. I apologize if anything I said was inaccurate or came off wrong

39
I have this same problems with Jusete textures. This happen randomly. Any idea what cause this problem? I have only 1gb graphic card, and 4gb ram maybe this is problem.

this isnt necessarily a problem with this particular pack in general, it happens because of limitations of the game engine and graphics driver. When it reaches max memory consumption and has no free space left there is no room for loading more textures, so black boxes are shown instead.

in aalis driver this is the point where the game would usually crash.

ffnx avoids the crash but produces these effects instead. try repeatedly transitioning the screen or opening the menu and closing it a few times and transition the screen to force the game to free some memory and reload everything.

Hopefully as the driver improves this will get less frequent or fixed altogether. The more hd mods you use the faster issues will occur, and some areas seem worse than others. just pay attention to the memory allocation, if you have those options enabled so you will know ahead of time before it happens (so you dont walk into a long story cutscene with everything garbled and no text to read)

Makes sense! Thanks a bunch :) I'm giving FFNx a shot in the meantime thanks to OatBran's suggestion on Discord but I'll be sure to switch back to 7H whenever 2.1 is released to test things out.

Thanks again! :)

the reason why 2.1 will solve the issue is because they are officially implementing FFnX into 7th heaven, at least I am pretty sure.

I was wondering when this was going to go fully public. Amazing to see the evolution of FF7 modding. FFnX is absolutely amazing and increased my enjoyment of the game and mods by an immeasurable amount.

Thank you so much for all your hard work!! TrueOdin, Tsuna, Satsuki, ect.

Can't wait to see what the future brings with this

Releases / Re: [FF7PC-98/Steam] New Threat Mod (v1.5)
« on: 2020-05-02 10:57:24 »
First of all, kudos to the folks making this mod. It breathes new life into a classic game.

After the Remake, I decided to play the original after at least ten years (maybe 15), looking for that nostalgia. I downloaded the Steam game, found this modding community, and quickly installed 7H and tons of mods. I've just made it to the Chocobo Ranch, and I'm really wishing I had not turned on NT for this first run. It's such a major change from the original, and I feel completely lost. If I turn it off now, how is that going to affect the rest of the game for me? It seems I'd be way over-leveled with some strange weapons/materia in my possession for a while. Will I encounter any bugs? Is it better to start over?

tl;dr I want to turn the mod off for now (at the Chocobo Ranch). How will that impact the rest of my game?

If you disable new threat it wont really affect your game in a negative way, the experience curve for levels is actually more harsh in new threat and when you load your save and earn exp you might actually get set to be further ahead than you were to begin with, as you guessed. any item or materia changes are superficial and not unique to the mod. I think it does use quite a few item id's that are not used in vanilla but they should just appear as blank slots in the inventory, you can remove them with black chocobo save editor if you want. Your love points for the gold saucer date will also be super messed up most likely. all of these things you can can fix with black chocobo if you want very quickly.

Hello.

Need some technical help.  Been loving New Threat, but I have been getting "Unknown Exception has occurred" when trying to load the Zangan fight for Tifa.  Any advice on how to resolve this?  I am using the steam version and I have Tifa as leader.  Thanks in advance.

That bug was reported and fixed? a few days ago I think, are you sure you are playing on the most recent version? Look in the last page or two of this thread and there should be a mega link where you can get it from, if he hasnt updated the OP which he usually does...

It's not there unfortunately. The normal chest contains Viper Halberd and the chest in the fire contains Magic Shuriken

You definitely are correct it is not in Da Chao anymore, I went to check to see if I got it this playthrough and I guess I missed it as well. Its not listed in "where is the thing.txt" - BUT it is listed in the Enemy-Items spreadsheet. The only enemy that is listed to have it as a steal is "Dragon Rider" which is in the Whirlwind Maze. So if that is still true, then it is a missable piece of equipment, if the enemy even still has it cause that enemy items spreadsheet does have errors in it but has been decently reliable for me so take that info with a grain of salt. Maybe you can even go back there in new threat I havent even checked that either, something to try I guess

FF7 Tools / Re: Simple speedhack/slowdown for FF7 (v2)
« on: 2020-04-30 05:50:46 »
would be possible  instead of multiplier speed to have speed based on fps? for me is too slow or too fast, can't find a proper setting

you can edit the script to change the values that are applied to the speed multiplier. It accepts decimal values so you can fine tune it to your liking once and then just toggle it on and off of that particular setting.

For example, I didnt like the options he provided either so I modified it to allow a 2x multiplier normally, but if I want to turbo through something, battles or story section after a game crash (which I am up to 73 crashes this playthrough! Hoping to get to 100 before the end lol)

Code: [Select]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<CheatTable CheatEngineTableVersion="29">
  <CheatEntries/>
  <UserdefinedSymbols/>
  <LuaScript>strings_add(getAutoAttachList(), "ff7.exe");
  mySpeed = 2;
  turboSpeed = 6;
  defaultSpeed = 1;

function togglesh()
  speedhack_setSpeed(mySpeed);
  sleep(100);
end

function disblesph()
speedhack_setSpeed(defaultSpeed);
    sleep(100);
end

function superturbo()
  speedhack_setSpeed(turboSpeed);
    sleep(100);
end

  createHotkey("superturbo",VK_F9);
  createHotkey("disblesph",VK_F11);
  createHotkey("togglesh",VK_F12);
</LuaScript>

I didn't see much info on this anywhere, but when you lose Cloud during disc 2 and you find him, Tifa leaves to take care of him and then you have Cid to go around and get the Mega-Materia... There is a random npc in the beginning of Mideel that skips Tifa leaving and half of the Mega-Materia questline? Is that intended to be there? If you do get Cloud back early with that npc and then try to go to corel to do the quest that was skipped the game glitches out and softlocks. Seems like a debug type thing that was left in the game to me idk why you would want to skip all that content normally. Just wondering if this is an intended thing to be there or not.

I can fix these save files by putting the intended equipment into your inventories and adjusting the character's base stats to what they should be. I'll need the save file uploaded and linked here.

I can't believe you would go above and beyond to the point where you would offer to fix peoples save files. You should really have better things to do with your time lol. Such dedication to the community for so many years its really nice to see that.

Really though you should just bundle a save file right off the train at new game with the mod download so people can compare their saves to it and fix it on their own. Black Chocobo is extremely user friendly and simple to use.
