 Briefly:

TrueMotion codec - codec used to play ingame cutscenes (follow recommendation.txt to solve your problems with movies)
Upside-down FMV cutscenes patch - may solve problem with movies playing upside-down (see warning!)
Laptop Keypad patch - patches the game to be playable without numpad (good for laptops)
 1. enables to pass 8-bit palette textures test in config thus allowing to choose Direct3D hardware rendering of video
 2. enables 1280x960 ingame resolution;possibility of antialiasing without graphical issues;integrated Jedwin's Chocobo racing patch which solves crashing on 2k/XP systems
 3. - MiniGamesPatch - This program will enable a frame limiter for the Bike, Snowboarding and Rollercoaster Minigames and for battleswirl effect. It allows minigames to run at normal, manageable speeds on mid-to-high-end systems.
It ALSO helps to solve crashing issues that some people may experience with the snowboarding game.
This ALSO has integrated BattleSwirlFix which fixes an issue with FF7 crashing randomly when entering battles (mostly after Alt+Tabbing out of game and then returning)
   - TransparentDialogBoxesPatch - Will make the big blue dialog boxes transparent.
   - NoDialogBoxesPatch - Will make the dialog boxes vanish and only text appear (will overwrite the TransparentDialogBoxesPatch).
   - 9999LimitBreakingPatch - Removes the 9999 limit for HP/MP/Damage in your FF7 allowing to go above this number. See screenshot and 9999LimitBreaking.txt.
   - GyptInstant - Allows you to skip FMVs when playing FF7 by pressing a hotkey. Very useful when experiencing freezes and crashes during FMV sequences. See GyptInstant.txt.
   - LuckyTifa - Tifa will always get "Yeah!" in her limit break. (cheat)
   - LuckyCaitSith - Allows you to manipulate CaitSith's The Slots Limit Break. (cheat)
 4. The better-looking Cloud model from the final battle replaces your normal battle Cloud. see samples
 5. a) This adds normal hands to ingame characters. No more lego blocks. ))
     b) This awesome mod completely replaces most of all childish lego characters for normal ones like in battlefields or in FF8
 6. edits the spell names, giving them these: Fire - Fire, Fira, Firaga (originally Fire1, Fire2, Fire3), Ice - Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga (originally Ice1, Ice2, Ice3) etc.
 7. replaces the menu character icons with Advent Children Style (taken from the movie)
8.1 allows you to put any music in your game replacing the midi music. In other words you can use Playstation files to play with original PS music or ANY MP3 you wish!!! Nice if you own OST of FF7 or FF7 Reunion tracks or FF7 Advent Children.
8.2 tries to fix music delays at switching scenes while using ff7music - prevents ff7music to flood its console with undesired debug info thus saving some cpu.
 9. makes almost all enemies morphable into items, improves steal rate, prevents stealing and winning the same item at the same time and makes more different items stealable.

notes before installing:

Step-By-Step Instructions (common FF7 problems covered too!)
Code: [Select]
TrueMotion codec

Recommended setup to clean your codec mess and make FF7 use this filter:
0. Have latest DirectX and latest drivers for your graphic adapter installed
1. Download and install the latest K-lite codec pack (google yourself)
- the installation program will prompt you to remove all installed codecs or corrupted entries...answer yes to do it automatically.
- it's recommended to install default profile of the codec pack
2. Install duck.exe (TrueMotion codec)
3. Now run ffdshow video decoder configuration via Start->Programs->K-lite codec pack->Configuration->ffdshow->video decoder configuration and disable TrueMotion handling as shown on Image1.jpg

This should solve all codec problems you may come across with FF7.

Upside-down FMV cutscenes patch

Warning:
This patch may interfere with some other codecs and cause some errors.
Please try to solve your problem by following the steps described in TrueMotion codec FIRST. If that won't help (what I don't believe) go for this.

Laptop Keypad patch

Patches the game to be playable without numpad (good for laptops).

To use this patch:
Just put it in your ff7 directory, and hit "yes" when windows asks if you want to overwrite.  It should work =)

1. ff7 v1.02 official patch
"The Great FF7 FAQ (read before posting for FF7 support!)" <http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=2670.0>

This is the latest and only official patch from Eidos. You definitely want this to pass graphical test in configuration to play with Direct3d rendering on high-end machines. In other words playing in software rendering sucks and we have to avoid this. The patch also fixes some other minor bugs and you won't be able to apply next patch without this and altogether go for it no matter what!

Installation:
Simply replace ff7.exe and ff7config.exe files with those patched

Usage:
In ff7config on graphical tab tick nVidia and TNT to use hardware renderer (even ATI users) :P

Known problems:
- I have a non-English version of the game. Now what?
SOLUTION: There are zipped patches of different languages but note that you won't be able to apply at least The SaiNt's High Res FF7PC Patch v1.00 so I highly recommend you use US patch 1.02 and then follow the guide in next patch
- Upon running I hear Eidos logo theme but the screen is black. After that it freezes.
SOLUTION: You probably have the latest ffdshow [rev. 571]. Step 3 in TrueMotion codec above solves this.
- nVidia users - I have the latest drivers for my GeForce and I am able to choose hardware rendering without checking the nVidia box
SOLUTION: So what's your problem? :D Be glad.
- background images are covered in colorful squares or grids making it look like a puzzle.
SOLUTION: Use next patch OR turn off any antialiasing you have set on your graphic card via RIVATUNER (nVidia users) resp. ATI TRAY TOOLS (ATI users) or such
- nVidia users - the game crashes on startup when using hardware renderer.
SOLUTION: Try to UNCHECK nVidia box in ff7config and maybe you can use hardware rendering without it. If not disable 8-bit Palletized Textures in your graphic card's Direct3D settings using e.g. Rivatuner tool.
- nVidia users - ingame fonts are somewhat screwed.
SOLUTION: enable FSAA (antialiasing) in settings of your graphic card
- nVidia users - HEEY! You tell me to turn off FSAA to fix background but then to turn it back on to fix garbled fonts! WTF?!
SOLUTION: use next patch OR (if you don't want 1280x960) read info on solving this at the topic "The Great FF7 FAQ (read before posting for FF7 support!)" <http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=2670.0>

2. The SaiNt's High Res FF7PC Patch v1.00
"[BETA RELEASE] Higher Resolution FFVIIPC [v1.00]" <http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6005.0>

Puts the game in 1280x960 resolution which looks damn pretty (3D models only) and enables to use antialiasing modes without screwing graphics.
Also has integrated Jedwin's Chocobo racing patch which solves crashing on 2k/XP systems at chocobo race.

As far as I know it modifies only one file - ff7.exe

Installation:
- run [The_SaiNt]_High_Res_FF7PC_Patcher.exe
- select "patch" and search for file ff7.exe which must be the patched one 1.02 from step 1 (unaltered)
- (optional) THEN if you want resolution 1280x1024 (not 1280x960) repeat the same procedure with file [The_SaiNt]_High_Res_FF7PC_1280x1024_Fix_Patcher.exe

Usage:
- you must set 640x480 Full screen, hardware rendering, nVidia ticked and TNT otherwise it won't work

Known problems:
- The game don't start at all. No message...just a blink.
SOLUTION: Your display probably don't support such high resolution. Buy newer and larger display or skip this patch (you will need to download and install Jedwin's chocobo racing patch separately from this site <http://www.ff7-universe.com/>).
Alternative solution to use it on lower res here <http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6379.msg80473#msg80473>.
- nVidia users - I get a “send report” error crash upon running. The game works without this patch and without nVidia ticked in config but I have to have it ticked for this patch.
SOLUTION: disable 8-bit Palletized Textures in your graphic card's Direct3D settings using e.g. Rivatuner.
- After quitting the game program remains intact and has to be terminated via task manager (otherwise it can't be executed again).
SOLUTION: Right-click on ff7.exe and select Properties in context menu and on Compatibility tab TURN OFF any compatibility with older OS (why do you have it on anyway?)
- I have a non-English version of FF7 but this supports only English ff7.exe and I want this badly!
SOLUTION: Follow the next guide taken from http://forums.qhimm.com/
  Quote from: TazDef
>  Here is the tutorial for applying the great HighRes Patch on non-English versions:
>
> 1. Make a fresh FULL install from your original FFVII CD.

>
> After doing so, you should be able to play the game in HighRes and in your language. Only the Menu still remains in english, but this should not to be a problem.

3. YAMP - Yet Another Multi-Patcher  by dziugo
"[BETA] Yet Another Multi-Patcher" <http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.0>

This is a set of very useful patches (also see samples and txt files):
- GyptInstant - Allows you to skip FMVs when playing FF7. Very useful for those who experience freezes or crashes during FMV sequences. See GyptInstant.txt.
- LuckyTifa - Tifa will always get "Yeah!" in her limit break. (cheat)
- LuckyCaitSith - Allows you to manipulate CaitSith's TheSlotsLimitBreak. (cheat)

All of them are used in ff7.exe so other files remain untouched I think.

Installation:
- copy PATCHES dir, install.bat and skerb.ex_ to your main game folder
- delete those patches (in PATCHES\) you do not wish to be installed. I personally delete LuckyTifa and LuckyCaitSith since I consider that cheating. Also pick either TransparentDialogBoxesPatch or NoDialogBoxesPatch but not both.
- I delete these but it's up to you:
CSith.srb, LuckyTifa.srb, NoDialogBoxes.srb
CSith.txt, LuckyTifa.txt, NoDialogBoxes.txt
- now run install.bat from your main game folder (patching process should commence)
- after all's done press any key

Usage:
- all of them are used automatically except for GyptInstant and LuckyCaitSith so see related .txt file to know how to use them

note: you can alter the settings of some patches here but it's not necessary..for more details see !READme.txt

4. Higher quality Cloud mod  by Dreakon

quote from EmperorSteele:
"The better-looking Cloud model from the final battle replaces your normal battle Cloud!  Studs on his armor, detail on his belt, darker uniform, more detailed face, etc.  Looks great!"

...or see the sample.

It modifies only your battle.lgp file.

Installation:
- run cloudquality.exe
- click on "..." and browse to your gamedir\data\battle\
- select ok and patch
- at pop-up question answer no

5. either  a) FF7PC Hand Patch mod v01.6  by Srethron Askvelhtnod
or
b) NPC Reconstruction Project for FF7PC 0.6 mod  by Borde+ice_cold513+Stormmedia

You can't have both of them 'cause they both handle the same files - char.lgp and world_us.lgp. Additionally NPC Reconstruction alters chocobo.lgp.
Choose Hand patch if you prefer more original touch or NPC RP for more perfect look - compare screenshots.
Note that NPC RP is only cca 60% complete and still under development (check NPC Reconstruction Project at this topic <http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5105.0>)

a) FF7PC Hand Patch mod v01.6  by Srethron Askvelhtnod

This adds normal hands to ingame characters. No more lego blocks. ))

It modifies char.lpg and world_us.lpg files.

Installation:
- copy files handPatchFieldV016.ffpatch and handPatchWorldMapV015.ffpatch to your gamedir\data\
- run lgptools.exe
- in menu go tools-patches-apply patch and find handPatchFieldV016.ffpatch then open
- repeat the same with handPatchWorldMapV015.ffpatch

b) NPC Reconstruction Project for FF7PC 0.6 mod  by Borde+ice_cold513+Stormmedia  (LGPtools by ficedula http://ficedula.co.uk/)
"NPC Reconstruction Project" <http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5105.0>
(possible incompatibility with non-english versions of FF7)

This awesome mod completely replaces childish lego characters for normal ones like in battle fields or in FF8. This is expanded mod of the REUNION patch that conversed only main characters with annoying clipping.
This one currently covers cca 60% of ALL ingame characters.
Note that this mod most of all changes the original look of the game. So if you are into nostalgic feeling go for a) FF7PC Hand Patch mod v01.6  by Srethron Askvelhtnod instead.

This mod modifies char.lgp (surprisingly), world_us.lgp and chocobo.lgp files.

Installation:
- IMPORTANT!!! If your Regional Settings in Control Panel aren't US and English set them now! Temporarily. After patching you may revert them back to your nation of course. ;) (for more details about this step see this <http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5889.0>)
- run lgptools.exe
- click on icon OPEN and find char.lgp in your gamedir\data\field\ and open it
- you can see all character files loaded..now click on icon EXTR.ALL and browse to your gamedir\data\field\ and there create new folder named "CHAR" (as shown on screenshot.jpg)
- click OK to extract all files in your gamedir\data\field\char\ (that would take a while to complete)
- now run NPC RP v0.6.exe
- follow the installer instructions (point out the DATA dir etc.)
- at the question to overwrite files answer yes
- patching process should take a few minutes to complete so wait (in fact almost all the extracted files in CHAR directory are processed)
- now return to lgptools
- click on icon CREATE (you are going to create new .lgp file from the patched char dir) and browse to your gamedir\data\field\char\ and click OK
- new dialogue window will pop-up asking what would be the name of your new .lgp file so name it char2.lgp. After confirming the name lgptools should look like it freezes but that's ok, just wait a while for the task to complete
- check the filesize of your freshly created char2.lgp - it should be 61 614 106 bytes
- you may backup the original char.lgp by renaming it to char.lgp.bak or whatever but be sure to rename newly created char2.lgp to char.lgp so the game will use this one
- you may now delete the extracted char dir
- congratulations you are ready to go after all (so revert back your regional settings if you changed them)

Known problems:
- Now my game always crashes at the beginning when Cloud is about to jump of train..and on other places too.
SOLUTION: Didn't you overlook the first step marked “IMPORTANT!!!”?
- I get an “unknown version of file” error during patching process.
SOLUTION: If you have English version of FF7 then your extracted char files have been altered somehow. Didn't you try to use BOTH 5.a) and 5.b) as I told you CAN”T? Extracting char.lpg directly from original CD should get you the right files.
If you have non-english version then try to follow TazDef's trick described in patch no. 2.

6. New Spell Patch  by zero88

This patch edits the following spells, giving them these names:
Fire - Fire, Fira, Firaga (originally Fire1, Fire2, Fire3)
Ice - Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga (originally Ice1, Ice2, Ice3) etc.
Lightning - Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga
Earth - Tremor, Quake, Earthquake (Quakera and Quakega didn't sound cool enough)
Restore/Full Cure - Cure, Cura, Curaga, Full Cure
Revive - Life, Full Life
Gravity - Gravity, Gravira, Graviga (derived from Kingdom Hearts)
Poison - Bio, Biora, Bioga (made these ones up...)
Mystify - Confuse, Berserk
Seal - Silence, Sleep
Exit - Exit, Remove (I think Remove is with Exit...)
Barrier - Barrier, Magic Barrier, Reflect, Wall
Comet - Comet, Meteo
Time - Haste, Slow, Stop
Destruct - DeBarrier, Dispel, Death
Contain - Freeze, Break, Tornado, Flare
Shield and Ultima remain the same...

It also changed the description of some of the spells. The description of the Buster Sword was changed and the name of Cloud's Heaven's Cloud was changed to Excalibur :P

Installation:
- just replace kernel2.bin file in you gamedir\data\kernel\ (or simply copy whole data dir into your main game folder)

7. Advent Avatars mod  by Wuz

Very simple mod to replace the menu character icons with Advent Children Style (taken from the movie).
See samples.

It alters menu_us.lgp file.

Installation:
- run Advent_Avatars.exe
- click on "..." and browse to your game dir\data\menu\
- select ok and patch

You can even revert the changes to original portraits by executing Advent_Avatars_Uninstall.exe and repeating the same steps.

8.1 ff7music  by ficedula  (http://ficedula.co.uk/)

This allows you to put any music in your game replacing the midi music. In other words you can use Playstation files to play with original PS music or ANY MP3 you wish!!! Nice if you own OST of FF7 or FF7 Reunion tracks or FF7 Advent Children.
How does it work? You choose a profile in this console that tells the game which file to play instead of midi at which situation then run FF7 via console an viola - your mp3s or whatever you chose are in the game.
See readme.txt for more details.

This compilation I'm providing will save you hours of time trying to figure out how to make it work and solve most problems including infamous music delays at changing scene!
This comes with all necessary files (excluding OST mp3s of course), configs and plugins that you need and psf files containing music from PlayStation. You should just click and go.
FF7MUSIC.ini of this compilation has fixed some of the mistakes in profile PSF which originally missed and misplaced some tracks (red=121 Red XIII's Theme.minipsf or si=902 unknown.minipsf or missing yume=117 Who Are You.minipsf for example).

Installation & Usage:
- copy whole FICEDULA directory in your main game folder
- run FF7Config.exe and on tab MIDI select Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth as MIDI Driver and uncheck Logarithmic Volume Control
- run FF7.exe and go to configuration of the game...there set volume of midi music to 0 (you can do this later but not to forget)
- run ff7music.exe in your gamedir\ficedula\ (console should pop-up)
- click on "Configure" button
- switch to tab "Files"
- choose the profile you want (psf - playstation music files..they're included in this compilation; mp3 - use if your mp3 files are named exactly as original midi files..not likely; CDtracks - mp3 tracks grabbed from your OST of FF7 in format x-yy.mp3 where x is disc number and yy is track number...see below)
- go to tab "Playback Options" and select Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth as MIDI device
- if you've chosen profile psf you can click on "Save and Exit" and then click on "Run FF7" button (game should run with PlayStation music)
- if you've chosen profile CDtracks you have to follow "Using OST FF7 in the game guide" first

"Using OST FF7 in the game guide" & "Replacing some mp3s by tracks from OST FF7 - Reunion tracks and FF7 - Advent Children" are covered in the rtf document..sorry no space to cover it here.

Possible problems:
- experiencing music delays at switching scenes - it takes some seconds for the music to actually kick in.
SOLUTION: If your cpu isn't strong enough to handle that you can try ff7_lessdebug  by Aali (see next patch)
- the first time I run a new game or load, everything is slowed down and it takes a while for music to start playing...after that everything goes just fine
SOLUTION: If this really annoys you...every time you run FF7 via ff7music console open and then close configuration of ff7music before clicking "run FF7". It works for me.

8.2 ff7_lessdebug  by Aali (use with ff7music)

This little patch tries to fix delays at switching scenes while using ff7music - prevents ff7music to flood its console with undesired debug info thus saving some cpu.

Usage:
- copy all files (without directory) of ff7_lessdebug to your main gamefolder
- in lessdebug_cfg.txt file there are three most flooding messages (or first part of them) that are excluded from debugging...you can add more that you don't wish to display but I think that should suffice...remember to add empty line at the end of file otherwise it may not work! (see readme.txt for more details about this step)
- run ff7_lessdebug.exe in you main game folder (lessdebug_cfg.txt must be there too)

9. SceneRedux v1.0  by Salk

This patch makes almost all enemies morphable into items, It also prevents to steal and win the same item at once a makes the stealing rate more realistic and less frustrating. The Mod also introduces some items that were not carried by any enemy before thus trying to rebalance the underrepresentation and uniformity of the number of stealable items. More info in packed file.

Installation:
Just replace your scene.bin file in gamedir /data/battle with the patched one. It's recommended to make a backup of the original file first by renaming it to scene.bin.bak or such.

that's all folks...

MOD EDIT: Split from here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6238.0). He's switching to content distribution network instead of Torrents, so I decided to split the Torrent discussion from the original topic.

You have, obviously, been curtious and got permission from every author listed to lump them into one patch and put them on a torrent site of dubious legality?

... no?

Not to mention; you are releasing something with multiple links to Qhimm.com on PirateBay?

Thank you. So very much.

I guess you will be dealing with every little asspirate that heads this way, after reading that. And yes, before you say anything, we know that the forum has been linked to many times from Torrent-sites. Which is one of the reasons why so many dumbfucks find their way here in the first place.

Could we... you know... talk about these things before you do them?

I just wait for one author who says that the has not given permission for this neat package.
This will be reason enough to lock this topic.

Actually, little birdies told me that permissions have been asked, at least from some authors.

And as for my own beef with this; it's not that I would mind miracle.flame's effort, I'm just not sure whether it does more good than it does harm.

Alhexx: Well... just to let you know he got our permission for the NPC RC... (Borde, ice_cold513 and I)

Jari: Well ... I do agree that it's kinda annoying to have so much newbies asking question that already have been answered before so many times.... but personaly what I do in these forums I'm not just doing it just for myself... if it was the case I wouldn't post anything here I'd just do my work and my patches myself and wouldn't share it with anyone.  But it's not the case.  However I understand your point.

miracle.flame:  Make sure you do not share any copyrighted files in this torrent (I'm talking about any files of the game like "char.lgp" or any files that you don't have the permission) ... if it was the case it could lead this forums to legal issues with Square or annoy any author that didn't have been contacted...

Well, as Jari said, I think links to this forum and several of the included patches have been floating around torrent sites more than once. Personally, I think that all the harm this path could do has already been done.
Just my opinion.

Thanks for your reactions up to now.
Feel free to comment the content as well.

I strongly recommend you to try ficedula's ff7music I've provided. I'm sure that most newbies and less experienced PC user would find this particular version very useful. Have you seen more flexible and user-friendlier version around?  :-P
Don't forget to read the provided instructions in Step-by-step instructions  by miracle.flame.txt.

This torrent is for people..fans... and those patches and mods will be put to use largely this way.. not just for acquainted community.

Hey, just to clarify, I was asked permission beforehand about this and I gave it (for the spell patch).

I was asked regarding my hand patch. I did not give permission (or refuse it), still deciding what I think about this (honestly under most circumstances I really wouldn't care but have mixed feelings about the way this was done.) Anyway, have continuous must-pass finals for 4 weeks which have to take precedence over this. I won't be on much. If you need to contact me, send a PM and then be *very* patient. I'll ponder this and post any conclusions I reach if I somehow get the time.

Meh.

I'm sorry for my impatience. Considered that http://www.srethron.cjb.net/ is down and [email protected] as well and your rank here is "No Life" that I don't quite understand what means (I'm new here and I never saw you online) I thought there will be no reaction ever...that you have left this business for good.

But I followed your handPatchV016.txt

Please do. I only ask that the contents of this .rar/.zip file remain unaltered, that Srethron

I just didn't give the link for the reason it is down.

I thought it would be a pity to remove your patch from the compilation so I left it there and hoped that if you by some means come across this you won't be mad at me.

What exactly do you mean by

I think that it was meant to be a joke, hinting that a person posting so much has no time for real life. :)

Everyone with more than 1000 posts should have it as their rank, anyways.

Kickass download.

If you released something then don't get butthurt if someone wants to add your stuff to a megafile. You're names there regardless. I'd personally feel ecstatic if someone add my work into a megafile so that people can get all their patched in one place.

The torrent idea is alot better anyways. The sites hosting the files should breath a sigh of relief since it saves on their bandwith.

I'm downloading it now and when it's done...I'ma seed it.

Oh, I guess this is called piracy.
(Athough it's freeware in this case)

So, since noone explicitly said that (s)he did refuse to give permission for reuploading files, I see no reason to lock this thread.
As for Srethron, I didn't see and explicit "no" in your post, so therefore, I'm leaving this thread open.
(Btw, it's nice to see you're still around here :) )

The torrent idea is alot better anyways. The sites hosting the files should breath a sigh of relief since it saves on their bandwith.

So, it's a better idea to spread the said patches to sites that cater mainly to asspirates? And give them even more links to here? When it has been made abundantly clear that we don't support warez.

Not to mention, I'd dare to say that with the exception of SaiNt's hi-res patch, nobody has had problems with bandwidth. These patches are not that large, or that popular. I'm sure that one of the authors corrects me about this, if they have reason to, I haven't been paying that much attention to this.

Oh, and fix your avatar. There's absolutely no way that that can't be squeezed into less than 10KB.

So, since noone explicitly said that (s)he did refuse to give permission for reuploading files, I see no reason to lock this thread.

Just out of curiosity, what good would closing this do anyway?

It's just a version of 'see no evil'-monkey; it does not take the files off the torrent-sites, it does not take the links off the torrent sites, all it does is to make subject taboo. On the contrary, had someone said no, then I'd say that this thread is really needed.

I mean... the shit is already in the pants, what good will it do the try to hold it in now?

Hey Jari ... why are you so upset... I mean it's not like if the earth is gonna blow... as it has been said before, it's not the first time that a torrent is made about the work that have been done here... and I think that when they said that we don't support warez they were talking about pirated version of the game... Beside, it's not warez. It's a torrent... torrent are more and more used to share big files or a compilation... not only illegal or problematic stuff... at least miracle.flame asked to the authors of the projects before doing so ... it's not like if it would have been done without permission.

Hey Jari ... why are you so upset... I mean it's not like if the earth is gonna blow... as it has been said before, it's not the first time that a torrent is made about the work that have been done here...

It is the first time a torrent has been made by one of our own members.

and I think that when they said that we don't support warez they were talking about pirated version of the game...

Yes. So?

Who do you think will come running when you start spreading readmes with links on Torrent-sites?

People who download pirated versions of the game. ...ooops.

Beside, it's not warez. It's a torrent... torrent are more and more used to share big files or a compilation...

OMG. Are you seriously explaining what a torrent is? Whatever gave you the idea that I wouldn't know?

I have never said that it was warez. I have been trying to say - over and over - that it will post a massive amount of links to this forum, in a place where we least want them. It's been a problem until now, and now it's going to be a huge a problem. Remember, we don't support warez, right?

not only illegal or problematic stuff... at least miracle.flame asked to the authors of the projects before doing so ... it's not like if it would have been done without permission.

It would appear that he didn't have Srethron's permission. So, not very serious about this asking for permissions stuff, if your default mode of action is to post it, unless someone says no. I was kinda under the impression that it should be the other way around.

Does that make my view clear? If not, I'll recap:

Is there still something unclear about why this is a bad idea?

Perhaps you should explain to me why this is a good idea, instead. It's not like something should be done, just because it can be done.

Wow calm down Jari... I was just asking myself why you were so upset about it... it wasn't a personnal attack or something...

It would appear that he didn't have Srethron's permission. So, not very serious about this asking for permissions stuff, if your default mode of action is to post it, unless someone says no. I was kinda under the impression that it should be the other way around.

True... but if we believe what he said (and I have no reason not to believe him) he thought that Srethron would never answer because he thought that he left the forums... so if he would have left the forums... how could he get an answer... However I admit that he shouldn't have included the hand patch without his permission.

OMG. Are you seriously explaining what a torrent is? Whatever gave you the idea that I wouldn't know?

Hahah... I wasn't exactly explaining what a torrent is ... i was just saying that it's not only used for piracy.

Perhaps you should explain to me why this is a good idea, instead. It's not like something should be done, just because it can be done.

Well.... I never said it was a "good" idea ... I just said I didn't mind... Although I'm worried too about all the amount of newbies asking around for support for there pirated version....

I'm just getting tired of explaining something that ought to be very obvious, if you ask me.

Not to worry, I didn't take it as a personal attack. If I had, I would have been a lot less pleasant. :P

You said it yourself - he should have left it out. He didn't have qualms about putting lots of links in the readme, so just link to it then. Failure to contact != permission.

Hahah... I wasn't exactly explaining what a torrent is ... i was just saying that it's not only used for piracy.

:) Of course not. Torrents itself are not bad, quite the opposite - for some things they are the best distribution method ever invented. It's just that the sites he picked are bad choice for this, due to their user base. And, IMHO torrents are not really needed for small patches anyway. Now, the hi-res patch is somewhat of an exception, it really does cause some serious traffic.

Just out of curiosity, are there torrent sites and trackers that have only legal content, such as big patches, linux distros, big demos and such? Does anyone know of any?

1.
A fictional example...
I am an artist and some sites mirror my creations because they're for free.
Now I die.
Nobody knows... no one can contact me.
Would that mean that my creations are limited only to past mirrors? That it is forbidden to spread my free creations elsewhere just because the contact failed??
If yes I would turn in my grave.

This possibly excuses my actions that I didn't left hand patch out even when contact failed.

And...
In my culture I am taught that when I give something it is given. And it's not my right anymore to decide what the receiver may or may not do with the gift.

2.
I have the notification enabled for all the threads that are posted in this torrent. So far I didn't note any masses or "asspirates" heading this way. In fact, that doesn't surprise me much.

You know, I've provided this Step-by-step instructions  by miracle.flame.txt with all the common problems and issues covered there with their solutions as well. In addition I made all patches as user-friendly as possible so if everyone follows my steps he should have no problem. And IMHO I think that my version of ff7music will stop massing of many if not all threads and posts questioning about how to run or use this.

3.
I am sorry if someone feels disturbed by this torrent. But on the other hand I'm very pleased that many people who had no idea had found this compilation and are happy to use it. As would myself if I'd found something like this before spending weeks collecting and speculating how to make it all work.

And let me be the first to thank you for that!

I say good for you miracle.flame! You took the initiative and made something that most people wish would have happend AND you took the time to write a VERY descriptive readme that some people should have wrote.

There's something wrong when you release a program to the public, leave very little description on how to use it, and bash n00bs  and\or ignore their pleas of help because someone felt too lazy to write an atiquate description. So what happends after that? They are told to weed through months of old threads to find that ONE that briefly(at best) describes on how to use it.

I don't care what culture you come from, that's not - universally - your right to decide. It may be the case for some, most, or all of these patches, and that's fine, but you cannot just "assume" that what you hold as true, is the case for everyone creating these things... licenses, GPL, restrictions found in readmes with these programs, etc. all come into play. The best thing to do is ask permission - in my culture, and most I suspect, this is called "common courtesy" - and I am glad that you did that on the whole.

I just suggest that it would be better to assume that you should not redistribute something unless you ask the author (that is, assume it is not for redistribution) - and that way you avoid potentially pissing the authors off. Personally I like to keep a track of interest in my programs and I can't do that if someone uploads them on some other site where I can't garner statistics on the downloads hosted on my server. Either way, your suggestion that everything here is to do with as you please, is a little grating.

[Edit] Here's a thought for you - Qhimm serves up his source code on the front page as "a gift" (your quote) - but with the proviso that you mention him and his website should you use it in your own apps (as he does). You build a program on top of it, and don't bother to say anything about him, and distribute it. Is this fair 'in your culture'? Does Qhimm have a right to say what happens or should he just accept that he doesn't have the 'right to decide anymore'? Well, he should have the right - he is giving a different kind of "gift". The point I'm getting at is that there are different kinds of "giving" and "gifts", and that your blanket assumption that everyone feels the same as you with their code that they have worked hard at, is fundamentally flawed.

You ripped the context just to serve your purpose.
You cannot compare Qhimm (whixh is a serving institution like a library)
with a patch or mod (which is free duplicable tool)
That is brighter than sun.

The rules are made to serve some purpose. If there are no exceptions in the rules those are not rules but a programme for dead machine. If I know both the purpose and my action well I can make an exception and break the rule if it don't messes with the purpose.
Be human..not machine.

A bit philosophy but to see principles. Why argue? What's REALLY wrong?

It's your automatic assumption of this that I'm getting at. If someone says "please do not redistribute", then by your previous arguments, you'd do it anyway, since it's what you want.

So you would draw the line at editors like Qhimm's, because they are a 'serving institution', but not patches and mods.. even though they might have similar time and effort ploughed into them by their creators?

Just interested in your philosophies.

If someone says "please do not redistribute", then by your previous arguments, you'd do it anyway, since it's what you want.

If someone would have said that then I'd break the purpose. Since nobody did (in fact Srethron did opposite...see quote in post #10) I did not break the purpose (in fact I served it despite breaking the rule).

I don't like to repeat but I really mean it

And as I said, I'm not trying to argue it, just discussing. Still, I think I'm done since you've made your stance clear (though I don't understand what you mean by "break the purpose"), and though I disagree with your approach I don't think we're going to get any further.

2.
I have the notification enabled for all the threads that are posted in this torrent. So far I didn't note any masses or "asspirates" heading this way. In fact, that doesn't surprise me much.

And the fact that you don't actually seem to pay attention (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=1245.msg79155#msg79155) does not surprise me much. Funny that yet another person with FF7.exe that can't be patched shows up just after your release. You do know the most likely reason why it can't be patched, right?

There's something wrong when you release a program to the public, leave very little description on how to use it, and bash n00bs  and\or ignore their pleas of help because someone felt too lazy to write an atiquate description. So what happends after that? They are told to weed through months of old threads to find that ONE that briefly(at best) describes on how to use it.

(http://forums.qhimm.com/Themes/babylon/images/english/search.gif) (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?action=search)

This happens after that.

We do not support pirates. As in; we do not support pirates by posting readmes at a sites known to be populated with them. Which part of the "We do not support pirates" are you having trouble understanding?

Why argue? What's REALLY wrong?

All the reasons we have mentioned, and you have failed to address. You are just making excuses to justify your actions.

Let's see...

Now I die.

Would that mean that my creations are limited only to past mirrors? That it is forbidden to spread my free creations elsewhere just because the contact failed??
If yes I would turn in my grave.

Excuse. You didn't even try asking in the forum if someone had seen Srethron lately.

That the patches are somehow lesser than Qhimm's tools?

But what does this even matter? You are only interested in justifying your own actions.

Ok now i got some free time to post and as i'm not good word's. I will just get down to what i'm going to say.

i asked stormmedia and Borde to say yes that he could use the NPC RP in the torrent.

Then i got one more PM saying that could he use it and got stormmedia and Borde to say yes so i did.

Now i did not want to have my Sephiroth Patch beta patch in as it was a beta. It was just for the ppl for the forum to test for me.

So i.m asking that it be removed

But i know it to late but i still want it removing

I asked you TWO times if it's okay to post your patches (both).
You could see the file structure of the torrent in your PM and there was your Sephiroth Patch beta too.
I understand you probably didn't have time to read the PM carefully but you gave the permission so now it is uploaded on the torrent sites and people share it already.

I can upload a new torrent without your Sephiroth Patch beta but that will do no good I presume.
..it's late  :|

What do you suggest?

:-D  :-D  :-D  Now where's the big proof this certainly has something to do with my torrent?

We could ask Qhimm to go through the server logs, to see if they show a referrer. But then again, that wouldn't matter to you, would it? You'd just say that it's not your fault.

Not to mention, for example Pirate Bay does not parse URLs in links, for this very reason. And if they just copied the link from a text file to browser, it wouldn't show a referrer either.

But like I said, you'd just come up with another excuse in your denial.

I do find it funny that you find the post funny, though, With your smilies and all. I'd say that it perfectly demonstrates your will to harm the community.

As a matter of fact I did.

As a matter of fact, I'm inclined to think that you are lying. Unless you provide me with a reason to believe you, of course.

No... That means they are meant to be spread... punctum.
If you don't wish to understand you never will.

I see. And you decided this?

Does "meant to be spread on the terms of the authors" ring a bell? Or" meant to be spread in a way that does not harm the community"?

And no, I do not understand intentionally harming this community, or asking the authors for permission just for looks - since it doesn't actually seem to matter to you.

Piste. ...now, ain't it cool when we mix in our native languages? No, wait... it's not. It just makes us look like condescending asses, actually.

Thank you for clearing that up for us. Very admirable attitude for someone who wants to spread the works of others.

Hello everyone, I've been following this for a while now, lurking around, and finally decided to register and post here.

1) Wanna know something? I'm using Ultima Edition of FF7, even though I own it - the real CDs are several hours away. Wanna know something else? Every single mod and patch that I got from this site (and was subsequently put into that torrent) works with it, after downgrading to stock 1.2 (which, IIRC, was also in that torrent). I can, however, totally respect that you do not want to support pirates (and I agree with it).

2) Jari - for one, telling people to "search" is a terrible way of running a community. Do you know what happens when a community starts doing this? It stagnates and rarely grows any larger. Anyone new to the community gets told to search, or if they were smart enough to search, they find several threads filled with "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION NOOBCAKE RTFM" instead of actual help - and what actual help they can find is often vague and/or wrong.

3)
Quote

Great plan, great plan. Make a time machine and stop it before it starts. I understand you're trying to nip the "next time" at the bud, but you really sound like a pretentious ass.

4) The instructions included with this torrent are much clearer than those on this site, and it's really quite nice to have a torrent of everything in "one place". Perhaps a private site-only torrent, instead of uploading it to everyone and anyone?

5) This was the only place where the "hi-res cloud patch" is in a usable form. On the "project links and status" thread, there's nothing but a link to "cloud.ffpatch". Well, what's an ffpatch? Nothing about it on that same page - a little completly unintuitive, don't you think? Sure, you can find it by searching - and shuffling through more than a few pages.

That's my thoughts for right now. Peace out holmes.

Oh great. Can I add that to my list of reasons why this torrent was a really bad idea? Pwease? :P

The alternative is that it gets filled with the same questions and answers over and over again. I'd hardly call that much better. Besides, it's not like the 'tech support'-part of this community needs to grow anywhere - good Wiki would serve the purpose just as well.

The modding and Q-gears (if you want to see them as separate things) are different matter, but telling people to search for answers to technical problems shouldn't affect them.

And you can moderate the repetitive threads away, if you want to. Besides, the idea would be that they wouldn't post that question in the first place, but would rather find the search-button on their own.

stormmedia - I only started lurking around a couple weeks ago - and as such, didn't know. I figured that thread (or the one it was based off of) was "official", and/or had the most recent info. If there was no such thread beforehand then, yes, it was an excellent idea to create it. I apologize for sounding harsh.

jari - so, what it really sounds like here is that miracle.flame uploaded it to torrents et. al. before consulting the community. A quick look about at torrent sites doesn't show the typical idiotic comments of pirates swarming the torrent, so I doubt it was really that harmful. Ah well, guess we know what to do next time. I'm sure he had good intentions, but they said that's what the road to Hell is paved with.

Koiu Lpoi, thank you for fair-minded comments.

ice_cold513, I think that it's not quite possible to remove most of the posted torrents. There are numerous sites of this kind that share the torrents between them. Removing it from one site will be something like with a hydra - severe one head and three will grow. Otherwise I would have no problem removing it. I was considering myself if it's appropriate to include this patch. However I am open to any other suggestion that I am able to accomplish even the word "no" was said after the deed was permitted and done.

Jari, you seem to be quite fertile soil for growing conflicts but you know what..it takes two to tango..and this is the last time I'm bothering with you even if you want to have last word.

Just to make those things clear:
1. That supposed-to-be-my-fault question about chocobo patch that failed finding valid executable
 - that thread is not one of those listed in my torrent
 - individual chocobo patch it's discussing is not a part of my torrent
 - ...as if it really matters...still no masses

2. That thing about telling I DID ask someone if he had seen Srethron lately
 - I did not tell it for you to believe me as you may think, I told it for you to realize you better don't say what I did or did not when you don't know
 - still I am not desperate to persuade anyone to believe me, even the asked may not defend me, it's not in my real interest
 - oh and one more thing.. I'm not lying

3. About anatomizing the purpose of a free patch
 - get real  :-D

4. About mixing our native languages
 - latin word "punctum" is not of my native language, actually

Less fights, more fruits.

Indeed. Oh, you don't need me to argue against you, do you?

However I am open to any other suggestion that I am able to accomplish even the word "no" was said after the deed was permitted and done.

Great rhetoric there, buddy. How about ending the masquerade here, and admitting that you are saying that only because you know that nothing can be done now. Excellent way of giving the impression that you care.

1. That supposed-to-be-my-fault question about chocobo patch that failed finding valid executable
 - that thread is not one of those listed in my torrent

Eh? You have somehow magically limited every pirate to posting in threads listed in your torrent? You really have some amazing abilities, can I have some of them, please?

- individual chocobo patch it's discussing is not a part of my torrent

So? It is an excellent tool for finding warezed copies. I don't think anyone ever claimed it to be part of your torrent, but in case you didn't notice; that torrent of yours contains lots of links to this forum. This forum contains links to download the patch. And so on.

Blah blah blah no proof blah blah. Go lie somewhere else.

I would say that it's very much in your interest to prove that you are not lying. In case you haven't noticed, you don't have much of a credibility here.

3. About anatomizing the purpose of a free patch
 - get real  :-D

Making sense helps, you know.

EDIT

If we are really serious about distributing packs, why not use some Content Distribution Network, like Coral (http://www.coralcdn.org/)?

No need for Torrent clients (it works like any regular link you'd click - with your browser that is), you can pull the file if you need to and thus you can also change and update the contents and so forth. No annoying pirate bating, either.

Coral is limited to files smaller than 50MB - this thing is less than that, is it not? It's primarily meant for mirroring websites, anyway - but it should work for single files just as well. I think.

At the risk of sounding very repetitive; if you had asked about this in the forums first, you would have heard about Coral - because I would have suggested it to you.

See first post (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6238.msg78993#msg78993)... Major edit made.

Now I will only try to add a comment to my torrent on every torrent site I am able to track.
This comment will look like this: "Don't bother with my torrent. You can download newer version of the files directly at http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6238.msg78993#msg78993."
Admins, is that ok with you?

I looked into this Coral thing and it seemed to me that all it's good for is to back-up servers and to save the bandwidth as they say so  I wouldn't be able to upload my site since I've had none. Now I have. :-D Though no pages yet...
Title: Re: NEAT COMPILATION OF PATCHES AND MODS
Post by: Jari on 2006-12-07 04:35:09
I'm no admin, but I split the discussion about the torrent to a new thread (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6277.0), in case you are wondering where the posts have gone.

You might want to change the links so that they use Coral though, no?

Because as it currently is, everything is coming from your account, and I don't know how much bandwidth it has.

Just do as they say on the Coral-page, append ".nyud.net:8080" to the hostname, and Coral will cache it for you.
Ie. turn http://fem1.uniag.sk/Miroslav.Jezik/ff7/1. ff7 v1.02 official patch.zip into http://fem1.uniag.sk.nyud.net:8080/Miroslav.Jezik/ff7/1. ff7 v1.02 official patch.zip

I tried it with the Hi-Res patch, and it worked perfectly.

Just curious, what's with the spaces in URLs? Didn't they teach you that that is a bad thing to do? It will work with most servers these days, but it still tends to turn into a nasty alphabet soup; "%20" instead of a space - or break the automatic parsing, like you can see from my post. Underscores are a pretty good substitute.

EDIT: Fixing grammar. Oh, you might want to Coral the screenshots as well, if this thread gets lots of hits they might create a surprising amount of traffic.
Title: Re: NEAT COMPILATION OF PATCHES AND MODS
Post by: miracle.flame on 2006-12-07 20:27:46
You are right the %20 thing looks nasty. I've fixed that along with some minor things. Well to tell the truth you are the first to teach me that.

For now I think it's not really necessary to back-up the server with Coral. And I'm still a bit sceptical about this. When I see Coral globally used at other sites I may try it myself.

EDIT (after next post): By globally I mean you will rarely come across a site that's not using Coral.

Assuming that you meant "rarely come across a site that is using Coral"...

That's because most people have enough bandwidth these days. Whether you want to utilize Coral's capabilities is entirely up to you - I don't care, as long as it's not a torrent on questionable sites - if you have enough bandwidth then you don't need Coral. Plain and simple.

EDIT in first post (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6238.msg78993#msg78993): Added some video samples  :-o

If you wonder where did the music come from see Replacing some mp3s by tracks from OST FF7 - Reunion tracks and FF7 - Advent Children in my Step-by-step instructions (http://fem1.uniag.sk/Miroslav.Jezik/ff7/step-by-step_instructions__by_miracle.flame.rtf).

I'm sorry the music in videos is speeding. Capturing the video slowed-down the game (but not music) so I had to speed-up the videos along with the audio after that to mantain original speed of the video.  :|

But this one in the package is really flexible, usable and fine.

Rest of us don't. Not that I'd know which is faster, both of them are fast enough to saturate my bandwidth.

I've slightlly changed the structure of first post and added step-by-step instrucions in code format so anyone can read it instantly if searching for particular problem.
I've covered the most famous problem lately with ffdshow [rev. 571] decoder which causes a black screen instead of FMV playing with Eidos theme heard in the background after which it freezes.
And I've sightly changed the name of topic so it's more descriptive.

Simply extract contents of TrueMotion_codec.zip somewhere on your HD, then double-click duck.exe which is one of those files you've extracted. It's certainly not. Maybe your archive got corrupted during download or something.
Oh but I see (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5105.msg80241#msg80241) you were already able to solve it.

Yes I downloaded both versions and copied what I needed. For some reason my computer thought that this versions LGP editor was password protected. Thanks for the speedy assistance, sincerely, I only posted that hours ago. Not used to forums being so friendly.

My Graphic Card is an NVIDIA GeForce MX 440

Try to disable 8-bit Palletized Textures in your graphic card's Direct3D settings using e.g. Rivatuner tool.

That means your char.lpg that you've extracted is not original from CD but altered one. Exactly this happens if you patched char.lpg with 5.a) hand patch. And I've stated clearly that you can't have both 5.a) and 5.b).
Extracting the char file directly from CD should provide the patch with the needed files.

I'm really glad to read that.  :-)
But most credit goes to the individual authors themselves.

I have created a neat (at least I think so) mod called Scene Redux which optimizes, corrects and tweaks slightly some creatures and the items they carry. Tools used: Scenester and Scene Reader.

No longer can a player win and steal the same item and no longer will the player be frustrated in ethernity trying to steal from monsters thus prolonging battles to infinte.

Now the Ultima Weapons on steroids have been toned down to make the fight possible without using too cheesy tactics to defeat them (their strenght is totally unproportioned compared to the other ingame monsters).

If you would like to include it in your compilation, I will be happy to share it with the community...

Cheers!

Well that would be nice addition.
But first.. Let's see more in-depth info about the mod of yours. Do you have it somewhere posted? Or you may send it in e-mail as well.

If I remember well, I never posted it here...

I have the details of every change brought to every single creature in the game but I hesitate making it public as it would spoil the meaning of the patch itself.

For the most, it leaves the creatures untouched (exceptions: Ultima Weapons' Hit Points) while it works to optimize the items found/carried by the monsters.

The original Scene.bin is a real mess with monsters that carry items you can steal and win from (?) with screwed percentage of success, often not computing the real value of the item carried.

My patch aims to correct this by rationally balancing the items you can obtain from a specific monster.

Some people have revamped the same file I have modded by adding extra difficulty through increased statistics. Not such a thing has been made by me as I'd see on the game difficulty as suitable enough for the average player. Useless to say that such Mods also overwrite the Scene.bin file and are thus incompatible with mine.

Cheers!

To be honest I think it's quite important for every modification to state what exactly it modifies. I've used many mods on many games and each has clearly stated what was altered and I wouldn't say it has spoiled the meaning of it. If the people are to alter their game they need to know what are they doing. I doubt anyone would blindly follow indescriptive words like "better", "optimized", "corrected what was screwed", etc. Because maybe everyone has a different opinion about what exactly is needed to be altered and how much. In my case I don't remember having problems stealing any rare item. I've played the whole game recently and I got all of items possible.

Your proposal is appreciated but it needs more descriptive information.

Following is the list of the changes made to every single ingame monster.
Can't go more into details than this:

SCENE REDUX
-------------------

The Mod modifies the quality and number of items carried by ingame creatures, altering the success rate of stealing from them according to the second number in parenthesis, while the first displays the chance of winning a different item after a battle (in the unmodded version, monster often had the same item as spoil of war and for stealing).

Sometimes there is only one number in parenthesis and in that case it is also specified if the item can only either be won or stolen.

The original Scen.bin is vastly inconsistent in its arbitrary distribution of the stealth success percentage in the game, often bringing the player to the verge of frustration. This will no longer be the case.

Some monsters can be morphed into an item upon acquiring a special Materia. In this case, the name of the item is displayed in the following list after the letter "M".

The Mod introduces some items that before were not carried by any enemy thus trying to rebalance the underrepresentation and uniformity of the number of stealable items.

The casual player is not recommended (and does not really need) to go through the list found later on as it could spoil the game by knowing in advance what kind of new items the player will be rewarded with.

Enjoy!

Nice work. :)  I'd say it's balanced well.
I would recommend you to modify your message and put the list in code format like I did with Step-by-step instructions in first post. That would conserve much space on this page.

Now the Ultima Weapons on steroids have been toned down to make the fight possible without using too cheesy tactics to defeat them (their strenght is totally unproportioned compared to the other ingame monsters).

I presume you are talking about Emerald and Ruby Weapons. I'd like to know what exactly was altered and if this tweak is independent from the above.

UPDATE: And if the info is covered in a readme file I may add your patch to the compilation right away.

Hi. I'm interested in this patch too for my pack of mods / pathes and fixes for this game. My mod is similar to the one of miracle.flame but it's suitable for the italian translated version of the game that the Sadness team made time ago. I'm creating a team to support the tweaks on the italian version and this patch would be very fine. I awaits infos. THX

miracle.flame,

I have sent the file to your email address together with some small typo corrections. Note that the package has been compressed using 7zip (a freeware, excellent compressing utility) but feel free to repackage it with WinZip.

To answer your question, yes, I was speaking about Ruby and Emerald (the latter simply ridicolous for how much it's been doped up) but the Mod version I am sending you leaves them untouched as changes in this respect need to be ponderated longer. Perhaps for the next release, I might have those tweaks inserted as well.

Cheers!

P.S. lparcshinoda, I am italian too...  :-D

SceneRedux is there in v1.3.
Aside from that I added some "possible problems" in previous patches and cut down the code format a bit to fit in 40,000 characters limit.

And with ff7 music the resum option don't work corretcly cause the song doesn't resum at the good moment it resum a little far before the music change and sometime the song all restart.

VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE
I was testing the scene Redux mod and i found some odd thing on the enemies. I found that 2 bosses (i used the modified scene.bin only for 2 bosses time) are non handled very well because they're exchanged with other enemy on casual encounters. I encountered the boss that attacks priscilla on the first come on low junon in the cave before junon and after the Chocobo factory (about 2 times as a normal encounter when it should be a boss from Junon). And when finally in Junon another monster type replaced the boss.... there were 4 enemies taken from another casual encounter in the high junon level. So i think that the patch messed up with the encounter-position of the monsters in the game in some way. I also played the part on the boat after Junon and i encountered JENOVA BIRTH (the boss monster on the boat) as a normal encounter (and that shit defeated me, so that's frustrating  :-D). Now i removed the modified "scene.bin" and replaced it with the normal-one. Please Salk do something to adjust that issue. Thanks and keep it up  :-)

Please miracle.flame, pull my Mod from your compilation with my excuses because I realize that the editor I used or the packaging program (but I would think the first) have critical bugs so that the game's encounters become really badly messed up.

I will try and contact the authors and perhaps one day I will manage to make it work out but as it is now, it's unplayable.

Again, apologies to you all, guys!

I am really sorry...

And I'd like to add for all who had patched their game with SceneRedux and did not make a backup to search in /data/battle/ on their installation CD to find the original scene.bin. That can replace the patched one thus "uninstalling" the patch.  :-)

Good luck on making the patch functional, Salk.

Teh admin person wants all topics that are basically lists of patches and/or programs moved to Wiki, and the threads then closed (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6201.msg80646#msg80646).

I suggest you talk to him (It was his idea, after all. :-D A good one, though) about how to achieve this, and I or someone else will later close this thread. I don't see particular rush - yet - so I'm going to leave this open now.

I realize my opinion is worth little to nothing but I am very contrary to closing this thread.

miracle.flame's neat compilation of patches is first and foremost a great guide with precise and detailed instructions about how to apply patches.

It has solved many problems for a big number of users who felt disoriented by the somehow chaotic disposition of the informations needed to run the patches smoothly and without risks.

The customized patch page at the Wiki at the moment is not really giving any extra help about how to install and use the various patches.

This is just my 2 cents...

Well, yes, surprisingly enough it doesn't have what this thread has, unless this thread is migrated over there. Duh. That's almost like saying that you shouldn't put water in a glass, because the glass doesn't have any now.

My two cents are that I vastly prefer well made Wiki page over a forum thread.

But this is so totally not my fight, I'm just pointing out the obvious with this post.

Well .. that for sure that the Wiki is good and well made... but my thread Projects links and status (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6201.0) was very well made too... I don't think that it's good thing to close either this thread or mine (the one Jari liked to) but as you said Salk our opinion is worth little to nothing in this matter... it's admins matters... So all we can do is close our mouth because we won't be heard anyway... what I find the more funny is that my list of programs and patch was more completed that the wiki one and they did close my thread before it was even finished(well finished... I mean all the info I wanted to give... because as long as the forums lives there will always have something to add to this kind of thread).. so it would have been even more completed ... but well... now let's use the less completed list that the admins was soooo proud of that they decided the close all other listing thread.

However The SaiNt told me why it have been done.. it's because if the one that is doing the list leave the forums someday... no one will continue the list... I agree... but it's no reason to close the thread if we didn't leave yet..  I mean it's not because there is a WIKI thing now that you have to close every thread that list the programs and patch here... I mean if Coke and Pepsi can coexist... why wouldn't we be able to exist at the same time... that's my opinion.  But well.. it's too late now... I ddin't have the time to tell my point before they closed my thread because it has been done while I couldn't write anything...  And that's probably what's going to happen to this thread... but at least I've been able to tell what I think.

BTW miracle.flame while I still can do it that's good to have someone that makes detailed instructions for newbies... because we don'T have always time to make detailed read me or information for the patches or programs that is made here... so thank you for the time you pass to do so.

Well that's all I wanted to say...

Well, the wiki should be fixed up to do its own work but I think that following the migration of all the discussions about patches on the wiki, a lot of USEFULL topics will become senseless. THIS topic should remain a support forum and the miracle's pack should be migrated to the wiki only for the links. The miracle's guide should remain here for my opinion. Now, it's up to you ....

anyway.. miracle, you'll remain my hero. Without you or this topic i'd never been able to fix the game and a lot of things on ff7. Thanks again.

Well, to begin...
I've done everything miracle said in his step-by-step instructions... but now ... at the beginnig when cloud jumps from the train, barret tells me to follow him. and as sonn as the first battle starts, it crashes... please help  :-(

This one was solved over ICQ. Here's the solution for others experiencing same issue..I'll add it to the rtf later or where..now I don't know how it will be done with the new Wiki idea. Anyway:
The battle crash is caused by corrupted battle.lgp. Why? Because the installation program of 4. patch incorrectly asks you to point out DATA dir which is wrong. You have to choose DATA\BATTLE\ dir as I wrote in the doc. So replace battle.lgp with the original from CD and do the patching again, this time correctly.

About the migration... I am open to this as far as I am given instructions how to do that and how to manage it further. Or at least  some pointers will do. You see, this package contains material that was altered somehow and is not identical with the original sources of projects. It was in more cases tweaked so the patching process is more user friendly and more universal. It's all repacked and mirrored on my space. And now I presume the Wiki section would resemble Stormmedia's project design more than mine. That means - with recalls to sources in their original form from the original host. So how to compromise that? IMHO it's not wise to close the threads prior to finishing the whole section in Wiki. And to support the thing I must say that I too cannot see a reason why to close these threads at all. Wiki is Wiki but who said that all info that's there mustn't remain anywhere else.. even if sharded. And why not?
I smell another intentions and it's strange that remains veiled to us. But this is not my forum and I am no admin so I have technically no rights to whatever is posted here even if be myself, right?
I made this to help so I am willing to make this help even more helpful if that's what's intended by the migration.

You really should contact SaiNt directly about the details. I suspect that he has some kind of vision about how he'd like to get it done.

There is a reason for closing threads before Wiki sections are complete, though; there's no better motivator to get the content to Wiki, than removing other options.

Ohhh.. so basicaly it means that if we don't like it we can go to hell right ??.. that's quite a display of dictatorship isn't it ??...  Well I hope the Wiki will be very good I realy hope because it looks like it's the only options that we'll ever have for now on...

Don't misunderstand me... I realy think that the Wiki is a good thing and that, eventualy it will become the best way to list the programs or anything... it's just that ... I realy don't think that they had to kill every other options right now... anyway.. I'm no admin here so ... I'll let them manage the forums as they like... I just wanted them to know that I disagree with the fact of removing any other options...

I'm very happy to hear the opinions that I'm getting in this thread and I will keep that in mind whilst porting stuff to the wiki.
I'm in the midst of discussing a solution with miracle.flame at the moment, and hopefully we can work something out soon.

Ohhh.. so basicaly it means that if we don't like it we can go to hell right ??..

If you want to be all whinybitch about it, sure you could say it like that. Admins and owners rule supreme in forums, and it's exactly as you put it; their way or the highway if it comes down to that. There is no such thing as free speech in private forums.

And at least this time they are right; Wiki is more suitable place for lists like these - and some other content as well.

eventualy it will become the best way to list the programs or anything...

The problem is that that eventually might never happen, as long as the content is here, and nobody is moving it. This is merely one way of making it happen. Very effective one, too.

As I said in my last post... I just wanted them to know that I disagree in closing threads without even contact the one that made the thread like they did with my thread... exept if he broke a rull of the forum .. but it wasn't my case... But I'm glade to see that The SaiNt at least contacted miracle.flame for the migration before closing down his thread...

Now I shall not talk about that anymore ... it supose to be a thread to help ppl with the patches and programs... that's my last post about it.

Right since the wiki is a WIP (Work In Progress) I don't think everything will be eliminated at once. Also there is nothing wrong with having links up for it.

No one is grabbing you and shaking you for NOT putting it on the wiki. Yet ;)

My point of view is already expressed.

What Jari wrote makes no sense to me because if it's true that the Wiki might later on become what miracle.flame's guide is now, it is also true, like Stormmedia rightly said, that his topic is next to be closed while the Wiki is still (I hope a very much) work-in-progress.

Also, if closing stormmedia's and miracle.flame's topics is a mean to coherce their collaboration in making the Wiki page the reference (again an illuminating post of Jari) then I must say that it's really sad to see how much faith in their spontaneous help the Wiki people expected to receive. But I am just hoping that this was Jari's interpretation...

Not to mention that if we didn't start "whine****ing" about this, probably The SaiNt would not have gotten in touch with miracle.flame to work out a solution (and The SaiNt himself was interested in reading this feedback)...

This is also my last post about this whole thing, wishing the best for the Wiki customized patches' page as I believe it's a very good starting idea!

Oh my fucking god.

Whine whine whine. Big bad people don't do things exactly like I want, whine and bitch some more. I propose changing the name of the forums to kindergarten.com.

Then you probably have to think bit harder. Right now the entire resources are being fucking mismanaged by trying to build topics here, when the same resources should be dedicated to improving the Wiki.

The Wiki has existed almost for two years, IIRC. Haven't seen much of this shit sponatenously moving there. Obviously it needs a push. A big one.

Don't think too much of yourself, little asshat.

Actually, it was the truely evil and mean little old me who pointed out this thread to SaiNt, asking if he wants this also closed and even elaborating that miracle.flame probably will not like it. After which SaiNt suggested that maybe I should post in this thread, to initiate a discussion about the matter.

Surprised much, little whinybitch? Things are not always what they seem.

Obviously this thread should have been locked right away, as was SaiNt's first idea. Since there's been nothing but whining since.

You know, I don't do this often. In fact, there are probably less than handful of topics I've ever locked. Well, there's one more now.

Go suck your mummy's tits, little whinybitches. Fucking closed.

Hey Jari, is it true that you actually have a bucket of tears next to your computer?

Seriously man, what Miracle did may have been wrong, but by crying about the same thing over and over and over, you run the risk of dehydration.

I'm only looking out for your health and well-being (well not really).

Actually I torrented FF7 and all the mods that Miracle complied (which was very thoughtful by the way) and am currently enjoying them.

But don't you worry, just to prove you right I'm going to make sure to invite all my (as you so eloquently put it) asspirate friends to ask dumb, repeat questions, post with bad grammar and 1337SP33K, and generally wreak havoc on your precious precious forums.

The end is near.

Unfortunately this will be my one and only post, I'm sure this site will be destroyed by hackers before I get a chance to post again

Much love ~ 8cutter

Ahhh empty threats from someone who has been ripped by Jari.

Grow some balls kid, post on your main.

In the higly likely case that you dont, its easy enough to get either Qhimm or The Saint to run a crosscheck of Ip address of this asshat, and everyone regestered.

I just love it when Jari comes into game tweaking cause someone always has a bitch about him afterwards. Some of the most amusing threads i have ever read have Jari participating, Jari i love your work its like music to my eyes.

Koiu Lpoi if you have the cds you should be using them no excuses, me i have spares but there mine for the kids i intend to have one day.

miracle.flame you should be more specific when asking permission and if you can't contact certain individuals you shouldn't include there work in torrents and such.

8cutter8 your like a computer you seem to be intelegent but at the same time you make a brick look smart, if i was a violent man i would pull you tounge out your ass and staple it to a ceiling fan after gouging your eyes out and skull fucking you, you really shouldn't sign up for an account of anything just to abuse people.

much love your somewhat disturbed friend Steve jr

I hope this is done.  I don't appreciate mindless threats on the entire forums, just because someone feels they have a grudge to settle.  This whole "worst nightmare" post seems rather suspicious.  A self-admitted software pirate, who has influence over a vast number of pirates, so that they could post n00b posts.  Of course that doesn't matter, because he/she is also an elite hacker who will also take down the entire forum... pure bs.  Let's see how "l33t" he/she is, did they mask their IP?  Doubt it, let's squash this nonsense once and for all.

Thank goodness your not then.  :-D  Though I think everyone who enjoys these forums feels a similar anger and resentment towards anyone who wishes to destroy it.

This topic is so out of date that it's just shameful to bring it up after it was settled so long ago.

If someone like 8cutter8 is reading this post I'd like to inform you that I made the compilation so you can enjoy it and not to give you reason to harm the forums which by the way I'm a member of and I like it. If you don't realize that any harm from your side would be made on my score and that I would eventually be the cursed one, then I recommend you to get yourself one piece of brain, kid, and begin to THINK.

Just to give you a hint, the best way you can thank me for the compilation is to shut your shameless piehole and get the fuck out if you don't intend to post some kind of appreciation to the authors that made the patches and mods.

And one more thing for all the members... Please, I prefer to be called miracle.flame, not Miracle. I know my avatar says that but I'm no Miracle, I'm miracle.flame. Well, thanks.

(Jari, I like your doggy avatar, it's marvelous ))))

hey, miracle.flame!

I've been a FF7 fan in its early days.
I've decided to reinstall it, with the hardcore mode patch I've found.

Then, I've step on this:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6238.msg78993#msg78993

What a piece of material!!
The only thing is: where can I get working download links?
it might only be temporarily down, though...

sorry 'bout the quick message, I'm kinda late at work :D

That's a work of passion. Awesome.
thanks for reply

I could say thing or two about resurrecting, but I suppose your post had something to add...

In any case, the (hopefully working) links should be on the Wiki, that's why the thread was closed (well, that and the fact that I'm not going to listen to bitching about one thing - without anything worthwhile to add - very long).

What, are you running out of bandwidth? :P
Just teasing. ;)

edit: I've found Qhimm's FF7 Wiki, but no trace of a page featuring the links like the one of miracle.flame's great thread. I guess I'll go and download them one by one. :)
