Hah, all the "old school" hackers here are already starting to reminisce about the good old days. All that's missing now is a rocking chair and complaining about your knee that always swells up when there's bad weather a'coming. :P

Right, before I lose my patience and rip someone's spleen out for asking: there is no way to get a working Aeris character for disc 2+3, short of rescripting that entire half of the game. Which we can't do, not even technically (yet). And speaking as a programmer, there is no evidence to support there were ever plans for anything else than for her to die. Yes she does have some lines at a few select places through-out the rest of the game, but there is also an overwhelming majority of non-existant lines. The few that are there could be simply because they hadn't fully decided to which places you should be able to go before Aeris dies, and so she has some lines in places she, in the end, was never able to visit. Isolated incidents like "ghost in the church" and similar stuff with no deeper support in the story should never be seen as having a deeper meaning, in fact I bet the game scripter that wrote that ghost Aeris easter egg into the game on his spare time is having a good time watching the world-wide speculation frenzy that caused.

Technically speaking, it's not so much a problem of Aeris not having any lines, it's more a case of Aeris not existing in those places. In each and every FF7 location, all the characters are scripted into the scene (as the on-screen characters you see), and then the ones that are actually supposed to appear on screen are selected from those based on your current party. Each scripted character can have different lines and actions, thus the actual dialog you get can depend on the current party. If Aeris is in your party, but she does not have a scripted on-screen representation for her to "step into", the game engine will freak out (a little bit like dereferencing a null pointer, though the game script engine is of course a bit more abstracted than that).

Heh, other sources cited John DiMaggio as Loz. That would've been a laugh.

I wish that I had a secret machine that did all my work and i would know how it did it and no one would ever find out

Granted, but it goes out and commits murder, which you are later sentenced for since you knew everything about it and no one ever found out about the machine.

I wish my mom didn't have to die. There, let's see just how evil you are!

Your old names are not protected (i.e. other people can take them), they will remain even if you change back (wouldn't be much of a record otherwise), and name changes are still not encouraged as they generally do more harm than good, and thus not the least bit amusing if someone were to, say, excessively change their name just "for the fun of it". Thus people with "100 listed names" will never be a problem because they will have been banned long before that.

Also I think it ought to hit you as a warning sign that you've already accumulated about 1/8th of the posts I've ever made during my six years of running this place, yet you've only been here less than two months. That's 1/36th of six years, meaning you make four posts for every one I do. And I think I dare say the majority of those posts carry little relation to the purpose of these forums; what people want to read when they come here. You've also tried to push discussions off topic on more than one occasion. Consider this some friendly advice before someone puts a warning on you: pay closer attention to the social etiquette of the places you visit; just because you think something sould be okay to do doesn't mean it's appreciated.

It's only innovative the first time... :-?

On that note; starting now, users' name changes will (hopefully) be recorded, with previous names showing up under their user profile. Might become a useful feature if you're bothered by people with strange names talking as if they know you. Of course, if and when you do change usernames, it is still good to notify people about it.

This is normally where I'd step up and be immensely helpful, but right now I don't have time to dig up my old code... IIRC I did write a tiny feature to scan all script files to find all accesses of a specific variable. It was an ugly hack though, had to hard-code the input to it, so it was only used a couple of times to help Terence out when he was mapping stuff. :P

I swear, some time when I have some time off work I'll get back on some of my older projects. Really! :)

I wish that someone could come up with some cleverly witty reponse that will corrupt my wish.

Granted, but now your head hurts from trying to figure out what just happened.

Interesting game though, logically speaking... as in, the exact opposite wish should work about as well:

I wish that my wish won't be corrupted.

(feel free to skip these last two wishes, if you will... not too fun to have your game logically sabotaged, after all)

Yes, well, of course if you change your name unnecessarily often, it'll be even more confusing. Also, once you do change, it would help if you actually inform people who you actually are. Were. Whatever.

On a similar note, what is up with the whole adding your name to every post? It is already written next to your post, why add it? This is why I purposely keep signatures off, because I know damn well that only one user in every 100 would ever put anything useful in there, the rest would either just insert their name (useless!) or stuff that's clearly visible in their profile anyway, where people can read it if they want to.

Not.in.a.jolly.mood.today.

Seriously, are you so devoid of creative thinking that you can't think up a name for yourself without resorting to copying a well-established one? What is it that drives you, are you hoping that Sephiroth's "coolness" will rub off on you? Are you so oblivious to the fact that when other people see you they're usually think "Geez, here comes another moron"?

The reason for this little outburst is not purely ideological (we've had "Sephiroths" around since the old days), but more of a practical one. At this moment, we have 22 people using a simple variation of the name "Sephiroth" as their user name (and probably a few more using a bad spelling). It's not only uninnovative, it's downright confusing. So the following people should strongly consider changing their user name to something we can actually recognize you by, before the management decides to do some culling of the herd:

Sephiroth
Sephiroth 3D
Sephiroth the Dragon
Sephiroth 1311
Sephiroth2000
sephiroth2045
Sephiroth398
Sephiroth7777
Sephiroth_98
sephiroth_nightmare
Sephiroth's heart
SephirothEX
Great Sephiroth
The Great Sephiroth
TheGreatSephiroth
(oh for fuck's sake...)
0_sephiroth_0
_Sephiroth_
akthamissephiroth
NeoSephiroth87
Psycho_Sephiroth
Seraph_Sephiroth
xXSephirothXx

On a similar note, there are also 20 Clouds, six Squalls and three Zacks. If either of you want to have an actual identity, you might consider the same.

Hope the moderators and Qhimm find this funny. I though it would be.

I'd say that and similar comments were part of the reason xspudx was banned in the first place. Having the highest post-per-day count isn't exactly something you'd brag about around here...

First I thought I'd clear up, the chocobo racing issue was not fixed with the official 1.02 patch, only with jedwin's unofficial chocobo fix ("the chocobo patch"). As has been said though, trainers made for 1.00 won't work for 1.02 (due to the different memory layouts of the two version), and trainers made on the Windows 9x platform will not necessarily work on Windows XP due to the stricter memory access policy.

However, the chocobo patch works with either FF7 version and does not reduce "trainability", i.e. a trainer that works for the original 1.00 will still work for 1.00+chocobo patch. FF7 is available in so many versions (and languages) though, so if you really want to be able to run trainers you'd be best off trying to find an original 1.00 executable. And if that won't run on your PC, well then you're in a spot of bad luck. Have I mentioned the possibility of emulating FF7PSX instead?

Um, I hope you don't think that "+32" will properly handle the FF7 text?

Yes, screenshots of something for which there is no model or script data for would be nice. :)

Heh, this forum must really be the worst place imaginable to try and spread rumours like this. :P
