As an offical member of the remake, I'll tell you two things...

First off, Darkness is totally right, if you want the latest info, visit the website. (see Fice for details.) Since I JUST now got out of my final class (I gotta wait for an "exit interview" cause I'm taking the next term off) I might do some work on creating a new website design...

Second: We are still working on developing a story, although he do have all the major plot points roughed out. As for the engine side of the remake, Fice has done some amazing work with it. I myself have recently been developing a program to write the "field" files used by Fice's engine. Meanwhile (I haven't heard much about this in a while...) Alhexx has been working on improving his modeling program. Hoepfully soon he and Fice will get together and build me a model/animation export plugin type thing for Lightwave so we can get new and original models into the engine.

The one thing I'm really going to point out is the fact that until today all if not most of us have been dealing with school work and finals, not leaving us a lot of time to work on the remake.

I hope this answers your questions.

A year? Not that much by a noticable amount. Try 3/4 of a year and you'd probably be as close as you could get; definitely no more than that.

'Hey I'm Alive!' -> not important..

Ain't the remake a sort of a test for Fice's engine?
Who cares.
What's up with the new stuff?
Heard that you're not going to do nothing except
change the script, and the minor errors of FF7?

Kinda sounds to me like destroying the whole
idea.. Not offending! I hope that it will turn out
great, really!

Well..

Anyway.. Got sick of 2d graphics (some of you may
have seen it - terrible -  :erm:)
About 3d models - if you get to a point where
it will support some 'normal' programs
contact me..
Got deeper into nice textures in modeling..
But we will see if graphics will be needed..
If you need some help - contact me..

ged-> new engine, new story, etc.

while i think it would be nice to have some interface/control improvements (you know, make it look less like a port from the playstation *shudders at the thought of the numpad*), i think it will turn out great.

hehe numpad. would you prefers the arrow keys? least the numpad is map decently. but if it bugs you that much go get one of the "playstation"ish gravis pads and use that. then you'd have it all. playstation feel, better sound, better music ,better graphics and better processer.

The nice part about Fice's design is that you can custom set the keys for it. Currently, I just use Fice's default with is the FF7 setup.

By "normal" programs, do you mean Lightwave or 3D Studio Max or something else? Cause I'm pushing for Lightwave.

That reminds me... I get to get back to making that dragon...
