Two crashes
« on: 2010-04-16 16:39:06 »
The first crash:
With only the ff7 1.02 official patch, laptop keypad patch, and some YAMP's patches (the 9999 limitbreaking and minigame/snowboarding patch), I can play the game up to where the train stops. After that, during the first battle in the whole game, it always crashes usually as soon as the first enemy uses its machine gun type weapon.

The second crash:
After some searching, I tried to play again with only the ff7 1.02 official patch, aali's custom driver thing, and laptop keypad patch. I crash even sooner, more specifically, whenever I press Enter. After the Eido (misspelling) logo passes and I press Enter to get to the New Game screen (if I don't it just moves on to credits or something), the game immediately crashes.

Help anyone? Much appreciated.  ;)

what version of the driver are you using, ? if its .7.7b you have to fill up your save slots to stop the crash.

what os/ is this on.

It's this one: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8306.msg133947#msg133947

So I guess it is the .7.7b; what do you mean by "fill up your save slots to stop the crash"?
Also, this is on Windows Vista.

copy your save game and paste it in the same folder keep renaming them untill you have
save00.ff7
save01.ff7
up till you get to
save09.ff7

Ok so I did that, it's still crashing whenever I press enter to get to the New Game screen at the start of the game.
I also just checked FF7Config, for custom driver, everything is Pass except 8-bit Paletted Textures which is at Fail at the very end on Required 3D Features for Direct3D. Is it possible that is what's causing this error and how can I fix it if so? Thanks.

Also, if it is not what's causing the error, what else can I do?
Thanks again.

The Pass/Fail tests are for Direct3D only.  The Custom driver is using OpenGL, which is a totally different thing, and doesn't need 8-bit Paletted Textures support to work, so ignore the fail that you get there.

...Did you try running the game without the laptop keyboard patch, (i.e., a clean 1.02 exe?)

could you post your app.log from your FF7 folder after you get the crash.

Ah that's good to know. So I took out the laptop keyboard patch and it crashed sooner than earlier. It crashed as soon as I pressed ff7 and got to the black screen, didn't even show the first logo this time. So I put it back in and it crashes after the Eido (whatever spelling it is, the first logo) again.

could you post your app.log from your FF7 folder after you get the crash.

Where exactly is that? I can't seem to find it.

App.log is a file called APP.log in your "Final Fantasy VII" folder. you should be able to open it with notepad and it should tell exactly why the game is crashing. First though, make sure you've done the following things:

0) turn off User Account Control (if applicable)
1) download the 1.02 ff7.exe file and overwrite your old one with it
2) download the latest version of Aali's driver and extract it into your "Final Fantasy VII" folder. there's a version of ff7config.exe that comes with Aali's driver, make sure you use that one in place of the one that comes with the 1.02 patch
3) Open FF7Config, and make sure that "custom graphics driver" is selected under "renderer" under the "graphics" tab.
4) open "ff7_opengl.cfg" in your "Final Fantasy VII" folder with notepad and change the settings around to your liking, then save and close
5) Due to a bug in the latest version of Aali's driver, if you're missing one of your save files, the game will crash, so you have to copy Save00.sav or whatever it's called and paste it like 9 more times and rename it as is appropriate.

if you've definitely done all of this and it's still crashing, then show us what "APP.log" says and that should explain why.

Fill up all of your save slots.  I'd suggest using http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8880.0

INFO: No OpenGL 2.0 support detected, shaders won't be available

noticed that in there you might want to disable the opengl 2.0 shaders also in the cfg file (its towards the top of the file)
