Just about all the mods on this site are for the English version only. You could try renaming all the files for your language to the English file names, but I doubt that's going to actually work.

Found the mod I was thinking of: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16321.0

27
Yeah, him. Specifically this line:
Code: [Select]
「ふん、じゃがワシが
 起きたとき会ったのも
 なにかの縁じゃわい。
 ほれ!」
Which I interpret as:
Code: [Select]
“Sh*t.
Me bein' awake and you here...
  Must be some kinda fate.”{NEW}
“Here!”
"ふん" is a fecal swear, but this case could also just be a sound. Although he doesn't curse elsewhere, his dialect is rough and I'm tempted to belive it's some thing like "Well sh*t..." or "Sh*t son," like an old miner might say.
I should probably update, if you've made changes since what I downloaded before. Sounds like you have.

edit: "Me bein' 'wake" is how I imagine his voice, but two apostrophes next to each other looks terrible.
edit: Just to avoid making the wrong impression: I know it would be impractical to post here about every particular adjustment. Until I have something to send back to you I'm only going to ask general questions--like how you feel about extra foul language--using examples as I come by them.

That's how it's usually translated. That or crap.

28
Where did you get this ISO?

I'm sure he was just sick of physical media and scratched discs, so he made his own.

Without even looking at it I know it's useless. Why? Because we already know how to change the frame rate. The problem is the animations don't interpolate on their own. It's not just a question of models, the effects, the camera, and the animation scripts will all need to be adjusted. I'm the one that discovered all this and I'm the only one with knowledge about it. Not that someone else couldn't take up the cause, but I'm not interpolating all the ~3000 animation handlers. I've done the camera and most of the animation scripts, but all that is meaningless without interpolated effects. Don't even get me started on summons either.
Beating a dead horse, but I guess the issue is that you want to do it right or not at all. Rather than just having everything interpolated uniformly, you want to manually adjust the interpolation for each frame according to the character animation? Considering you're going from 15 to 60 fps that could be important. It's jarring in a way when interpolation is too smooth.

Even if you were ok with automatic uniform interpolation, that would have to be done by the renderer which would probably need to be way more advanced than what's used in FFVII. This can be done by a post-processing injector, but requires that the game engine pre-render the next frame which I doubt we can set the current FFVII engine to do.

I downloaded one for test #4. I didn't see any watermarks. I totally agree with you though. Cutting between the original and the DVD will be jarring at anything above 720p if you know what you're looking for.

EDIT: I did also learn a bit about interpolating videos in Avisynth from my research into HTPCs.
The only other method is converting the original animation files to 60 fps by re-encoding using an interpolation script like SVP or MVTools2 for AviSynth.

http://www.spirton.com/convert-videos-to-60fps/

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1486831
https://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Plugins:_SVPflow

I don't actually know the architecture of the animation files. If I could load them in Avisynth, I think I could make a higher framerate animation.

So theoretically we have the tools now to upscale the videos to HD and smoother playback. 960p@60Hz seems plausible provided the game engine can handle that.

To be honest this is already way beyond my field of expertise, and there are others that would do a better job with it than me. I just wanted to show you guys a shiny new tool I found. If someone's willing to remaster everything, I can upscale the DVD videos at least.

That's pretty much it. Should I set up a poll for which encoding method works best? Bear in mind the time it took encoding even such short videos, and that if we wanted to encode all the FMVs we'd be working with 320×224, 640×448, and 717×456 RAWs so trying to upscale everything to UHD is probably going to make huge differences in quality between sources.

I think the ideal method to go from there would be first upscaling the PSX RAWS that are needed to 640x448, color correcting and desaturating on the DVD RAWS for uniformity, editing them together losslessly, and then upscaling with waifu and other filters.

33
Nice, what was the source for those FMV shots? I didn't recognize where those models were from at all.

That makes sense to upscale then. Does anyone know where I could get the originals? All the one's on youtube are already upscaled to 720p.

I will not sell my copy and I will not share an ISO. Doing that would be equal to giving out the original DVD. Sharing the full DVD for free would diminish its value and I will not be the one responsible for this.

At the bottom of the review you will find download links to the FMVs. By using those, plus the menu snapshots provided and the detailed description of the DVD, you should be able to recreate a 90% accurate version of the Toshiba DVD for yourself, if you so desire. =)

You may also right-click -> save the links below to download every video without any decrease in quality.

Now I'm just confused

Well this is what I was able to do with DLPBs remaster. If someone has a 1440p or higher screen, they can see if there's any difference.

All the other links are dead, and youtube does it's own reencoding. I'll try with the mpg from lifestream now. I won't bother splicing together the original videos because I suck at video editing. I'm just trying to see if this upscaling method is viable.

2 hours 31 minutes Yeah that makes sense for a 1440x960 video. This also seems like the exact format the upscaler was intended for, turning old DVDs (480i-576p) into HD quality videos (720p-1080p). You could in theory quadruple to 2880x1920 UHD near 4K, but that's beyond this plugin and I imagine running the upscale twice will have diminishing returns.

I didn't even know about the FF7 Toshiba DVD. So we had HD FMVs already? I'll give it a try, but that's already a 1028x720 video and it's an mp4 container. I think I can get that into an avi, but without the doubling it's mainly just denoising so I don't know if it will help much. I found a playlist of it here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKRZrzcZOFU5EgBycX61mkSRSgsrYOW2l

Well it took more time finding the mp4 plugin than to denoise it, so I guess I'll try doubling to 2160x1440. This will probably take awhile. I should mention it's really not intended for upscaling already HD media.

4 hours 23 minutes Oh boy

Why am I awake? Well I was really impressed by the background upscales that have been made with waifu, and someone just made this guide for using waifu2x on videos, so I was wondering if we could get some HD quality versions of the old FMVs.

Before i decide to release this im going to let you see it on youtube first. im using the original jp psx intro with it and please tell me if you feel its worth releasing by watch the vid first

I think I'll play around with it and see if the results are any better than Protoman's were.

Writing... 45 minutes for a 2 minute video upscaled from 224p to 448p jesus christ. This better be good.

Initial thoughts, it looks ok. Most impressive thing is the file size is actually less than the original and more than half Proto's upscale though he's obviously used a different original file. It's not as sharp, but may be worth playing with the settings. I'm going to try increasing the noise reduction next.

Writing... 50 minutes this time. Not a huge increase, but on let's say a half hour clip 10% longer could be hours more. I should mention I have a GTX 760 2 GB. From the guides the deep convolution neural networks used for training are only really useful with topline graphics cards. Mine is already last generation (I have another I'm going to put in SLI soon), but the recommended GTX Titans cost a grand each. I imagine as this project grows people will share their compiled training for various media.

I'll look at it later, too tired. It's even smaller this time.

If someone can figure out how to insert training into the waifu2x plugin for AVIutl that may work better: https://github.com/nagadomi/waifu2x

It seems you can only do training on a linux based system with Nvidia GPUs for now. The plugin won't have training until that component gets ported at least.

Either way I'm going to bed now, I have to be up at like 6. This was not a good time to look into this.

Just about all the mods on this site are for the English version only. You could try renaming all the files for your language to the English file names, but I doubt that's going to actually work.

I recall someone working on a program that did just that.

Hi, is there a list of mods to use to get an the game working on modern systems with W10x64 with as many bugs and graphical glitches fixed as possible? Thx!

Might want to try Tom's Installer Remake: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16328.0

I'm curious how you got it to recognize the controller. Standard is to use drivers to make the pc believe you're using a 360 controller which allows regular gamepad recognition. Just swap them in the button layout.

41
Well a few people are working on that too.

Just post what you can and refer people to the forum in the about section. An .iro faq makes perfect sense, so anyone can convert files themselves rather than uploading altered mods without the creators input. Just get the ball rolling, and you'll see people responding.

I didn't even realize there was an FFVII section in Nexus. I think it's a great idea, and would add a lot of exposure and possibly attract more modders to the other projects. You're being awful considerate of people who can't figure out the FAQ that spells everything out. I understand the qhimm community is very social, but nexus as a whole seems to just let people figure out how to get mods to work on their own, and maybe someone will answer obvious questions in the comments section about known conflicts and glitches. Usually the mod developer will only comment if the original file is corrupted or no longer functions due to an update.

Also you'd basically have free reign since the section is totally empty: http://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7/mods/searchresults/?

Give yourself a pat on the back for all the dedication you've put into this project. You're a real workhorse, but I think you're also kind of a masochist for beta testing all the mods and maintaining the subscription all by yourself.

I originally thought the whole point of 7thHeaven was so that modders could upload all the little tweaks and updates on the fly and those could then be hotfixed via individual subscriptions for each mod suite. I suppose anyone could write their own subscription on pastebin and maintain their own mega/gdrive/dropbox shared folder, but have you considered a second subscription list with a shared folder open to everyone contributing to the currently compatible mods so they could update them immediately? I guess it would be a lot more cluttered, messy, and glitchy than your current subscription layout, but it'd certainly reduce the burden of testing and updating. Maybe a tutorial for making mods compatible with 7thHeaven or making .iro a forum standard? This is the way a lot of modding communities are leaning. Frankly I think you're going to burn out converting and testing everything yourself.

Now that I've looked into it, anyone should be able to do all this right now. It's not like Iros hasn't explained everything already for slow people like me. Still unless the shared directory is owned/hosted/administrated by someone who's actively involved in the modding, then it could disappear at anytime.

48
I had the mods out of order. I was dumb. Now that I have that sorted out I'm noticing that the Prelude Credits and Start Menu are defaulting despite being changed in Background and Avatars. Are there any known conflicts with it?

...and now it is working. Weird.

49
Nvm got it working. Great job!
