General Discussion / Re: FF14 panned by critics and users

If they make one more online FF game after 14, I'm never buying an SE game ever again, regardless of if it's FF or not.

User called 'andreese' from the TA logo thread was kind enough to remake it, which was very epic.

http://ncs.millenia3d.net/etc/LOGO.psd
(Text and stuff are there too, but the layers are hidden)

alternatively, there's another one on the internet if you google hard enough, but I can't be bothered to find that now.
Edit: Found the other one

I don't think we're supposed to support model formats here or something for whatever reason, I'm not sure really why.
Anyways, all I know is that the model files are in the DS standard model format (NDS?) but have custom bone opcodes. I'm sure if you research enough you'll find some images out there and maybe some other information.

Hope that's enough to make a start!

(Just putting this out there) If you guys want, I've got After Effects and I'm not too bad at using it - I could probably whip up some tasty effects and make a really nice logo video given a day or so - that is if you haven't already got it covered with vegas etc. But it looks like you do ;D

Man, I gotta know where you got those icons! Also, what OS is that?

156
Yeah, I know it's 3D, I meant geometry. But you gotta get the feel and depth of the original right. What you've got so far is way better than my first try, but it's almost too enclosed - the depth isn't right. Also, there are too many particles, I think. I'll post what I have so far up when I can. The original uses many particle systems, one for the close up depth, and one for the further away particles. At least, that's what I can tell.

I feel weird for spamming the same thing over and over, but also now hopefully anyone who visits this guy will be turned away and over to us. This could be a bad thing though. I mean, we don't want too much publicity, right?
On another note, it's kinda pointless for me to go around and just dupe all of pyro's comments, but I guess it enforces the point somewhat.

EDIT: There are way too many videos on way too many different channels where this sort of thing is happening. We can't go around posting on all of them.
To be honest, I'm wondering whether a release of TA's bombing mission project demo is going to make this problem better, or if it's only going to make it worse.

Also, anyone wanna email him and have a go at him? 'cos I'll do it if nobody else will :P

Haha, you need say no more. Go read the rules and come back when you've bought the game.

Nice going, saying where you got it from, too. I think that's a new one  :P

Oh, I see. Well it still doesn't make it much better, but I guess since he's contributed here I won't kick up too much of a fuss  ;)

But seriously, selling it for personal gain? Dude needs some morals.

Ugh, I hate how this guy is just using mods he downloaded here/ stolen models to get internet popularity and make a profit without even giving credit. and the way he's using the title 'FF7 remake' to draw people in. It makes me sick.

One thing I can say without a doubt, the Qhimm community is not affiliated with this guy.

Also, why is this in feedback?

It's a beginning, try to add additional layers (3d cam perhaps) to create more depth.
(if you want some very good after effects tutorials, take a look at videocopilot. They've got some amazing stuff there :-) )
Do it in Max? Not really if I don't have to, it is quite intense to do in max, unless...particles... well it could be done, but if you know a way to do it easier, than do it. Movie making is all about cheating.....

The opening movie consists pf 3 parts:
  • Particles (starry sky)
  • fade to Aeris, with flowers, zoom out until (almost) all of Midgar is in view, show TA Logo (if there is one, otherwise use FF VII logo  :-D) zoom in to Midgar trainstation, otherwise known as NMSKIN
  • Close up view of train, with sparks
These are the parts needed for opening.

Yeah, I do intend to do the whole scene in AE, if only as another test (Without the 3D stuff for now, but kept in the same timeframe). Other things I'd need to do would be the sparks, the green fountain, the logo and things like that. possibly some psuedo lighting, too.

Thing is, if you look carefully, there are already two layers of particles there (one closer and one further), and I am already using a 3D camera. I tried tracking/Panning the camera which worked much better, but it ended up changing the camera's position which gets a bit complicated, so I ended up just using straight rotations, which don't look very good. I'll play with it a little more.

Oh, and I do know about that website. I've seen pretty much all the tutorials there, so I know how to handle myself pretty well in AE. Personally I don't think the starry sky thing could be done without particles, but then that's just me.

 ;D Why, thank you.
I did pretty well actually. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was pleased.

A*, 6 A's, 2 B's and a C, not too shabby, right?  :-P

164
Amazing dude, looks pretty much spot-on to me!

Also, here's a test of that particle stuff I was talking about (when it finishes processing)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NG7vCpJBGQ

What do you think? or would you prefer to do it yourself in Max?

165
Looks nice, but yeah, what Timber said. More smoke at the top, too.

This is going to be the part of the effects in the opening FMV, right? Because I was kinda hoping to do some of it in After effects, but this looks much better than what I could hope to do with video editing. Perhaps we could split the work, since the opening part with the stars is a particle effect which is very easy to replicate in AE, and so are the green particles with aeris in the beginning.

You guys wanna try streaming TV shows online when megavideo has deleted EVERY SINGLE link because of infringement.

http://screencast.com/t/OGE3MmE5ZDY
That's the kinda stuff I'm putting up with right now. I want to commit suicide when I think about how bad the video AND sound quality is, which is all the time. It says HD, but believe me, It's not. The player's not even english, either. I'm just not gonna buy those expensive boxsets, dammit!

And by streaming TV shows online, I clearly mean watching them on legitimate DVDs which I bought.

General Discussion / Re: location of town field models?
« on: 2010-08-18 12:54:39 »
If you mean the World map models, they're all part of the world map mesh which is so far uneditable.
The program I think you mean is called 'Reeve', I think. I'll upload it in a sec.

Would be really nice if someone made a full blown world map editor - not really sure how it would work though. It might help get rid of some of that awful texture mapping, actually :P

EDIT: Here - http://ncs.millenia3d.net/etc/Reeve.zip

(not sure if it needs that many dlls, but I included them just in case)
Tell me if you have any problem with it, personally I've never got it to work.

>Various rankings
You know, I actually agree with most of that (apart from not having ever played V, VI nor any of the tactics games, so I can't judge). That's a pretty good way to put it, since I've never been able to definitively say what my favourite FF was.

Actually though I might switch IX for X, or at least put X up there with IX. VII is at the very top of my silver tier, though. 10's the only one which can almost bring me to tears with the ending.

Just to ask, apart from me, does anyone else think that making a main-numbered Final Fantasy game an MMORPG (which is completely different to what an FF game has been since the original on the NES and to what an FF game should be) is a complete f*cking discrace to the name Final Fantasy? No? Just me?

Not hating on MMORPG's, I quite enjoy them whenever I do play them. And actually I'd be fine with these FF ones if they were named something like "Final Fantasy: Online". But I really detest the fact that they're just not proper Final Fantasy games, whatever way you spin it - and yet they're allowed to have a true FF title.

Before you start thinking about that, the face needs more detail!
mouth and a nose, minimum :P

Also, why does everyone keep on calling her Jesse? Jesse's a dude's name, isn't it? I always though she was called Jessie, although maybe I'm wrong.

You would think I'd already have made one, but I'm also lazier than you might think  :P

Anyway, onto feedback.
Overall, it's not looking too bad at all really. The feet are looking great, although perhaps the buckle could be wider.
The ankle thing could probably be further up the leg so there's more room at the bottom for the thinner, screw-like bit

Now the shorts look ok, but you've sota made them flare out as they get towards the bottom, whereas in the concept art they're pretty much the same wideness throughout.

The crotch part is where you've gotta think outside the box. I know that in the original it was modelled like that, and you have introduced more polys, but actually that's not gonna work all that well, since the aim is to add more detail, and you can't get much detail at all out of that shape.
Instead, try something like I did with Biggs + Wedge and have it go up over the torso slightly. what you want is to hide visible seams between parts as much as possible, and right now there is a clear seam between the crotch+legs and the crotch+torso.

The torso itself isn't shaped very well really, and also the armour doesn't stick out from the body enough, I'd suggest remaking that piece or drastically reshaping it.
The shoulders are actually not bad. You'd need to make everything bigger and angle the shoulderguards out more. You should also make the arm parts a lot thicker - refer to the art wherever possible. The 'glove' part doesn't really reference the art or the original model at all, so you might wanna rethink those.

One last point, and I've seen a lot of modellers fall into this trap. When you've got parts that you think you can manipulate from cylinder primitives, do not set the side count too high. I always think to myself - If in doubt, go for double the original. Basically what I mean is, you don't want to end up with arms and legs that are like 18 sides. It doesn't look any more cylindrical than an 8 sided one would and you're just using unnecessary polys, as well as making it harder to manipulate.

Hope that helps.
