General Discussion / Re: Kingdom Hearts series
« on: 2011-06-15 12:03:14 »
*SPOILER ALERT*

That's the part I really don't understand. According to the Kingdom Hearts Wiki, there's like four different Ansems. There's so many people in the Kingdom Hearts series, it's so confusing trying to figure out who's the Nobody of who, or who the actual person is. Does the game ever tell you about each member of Organization XIII and who their human counterpart is? Isn't Roxas the Nobody of Sora, and Namine the Nobody of Kairi? They both lost their heart in the first Kingdom Hearts, thus creating those two, correct? That's about the only part of the whole story I understand.

Well, there's only really one Ansem - Ansem the wise. When Terra becomes Xehanort, Xehanort becomes Ansem's apprentice. Eventually, Xehanort becomes a heartless and a nobody, both of whom steal Ansem's name and use it as their own.
The past identities of the entire Organisation XIII aren't known, however it is known that 5 or 6 of them were previously Ansem's apprentices, some are the nobodies of the townspeople who lost their hearts (Axel, Saix), and the rest are recruits that were obtained after they started looking for help (number 9 onwards, I think).
Roxas was the nobody of Sora, and he took on the form of Ventus because Sora's heart comprises partly of Ventus'. Naminé is only the nobody of Kairi in the sense that her heart was within Sora's when he became a heartless.

Will finish this reply later xD

I think I've read in Ultimanias/ Interviews with nomura that he creates the visions for the entire timeline and mysteries surrounding certain events a long time before the next game is developed, in fact I think he already knew what was going to happen in the 3 latest portable games before KHI was even finished. Secret endings sort of tell you that, and plot mysteries are left open generally. (As opposed to with FF7 and CC, where the plot was blatantly closed and solid, yet they prised it back open in stuck in genesis at completely inappropriate parts just so they could advance CC's story a little bit more).

As for the characters being similar to eachother, I said it before - the plot lines involve characters having deep links with one another, on many occasions they're actually the same person in some form or another. I doubt Nomura wrote the storyline based on how much effort he would have to put into designing all the characters later on. Whether this idea is a good plot device is completely down to your own opinion, but I think they've done a good job making every character unique.

And the point of Birth by Sleep was that each character Mimicked the corresponding character from the original game somehow - there are character links which have a lot to do with the plot of the series.
Also, just because Aqua's a girl, doesn't mean she's basically the same as kairi, although there is a vague link. Different characters altogether.

Besides, KH's story is BS anyway. It's so confusing you don't know which is first.
The Same's been said about FFXIII's story - I don't think complexity of a story is at all a bad thing - most of the time the inablility to understand it fully is counterracted by playing it again a short while after. If anything, KH's complex story only adds to it's appeal, it's not written to be completely accessible from the get-go.

I like the systems of the portable KH games a lot, but they're a lot less 'free' than KH2's system is. Also, combo's in the KH games are generally done by mashing X a lot (sometimes square depending on how many ablilites you have/how much you understand the battle system)

How many times have Roxas and Riku's design been used?
Well, Roxas' heads' design has admittedly been used twice for two different characters - but it was used as a plot device, so you can't really blame nomura for doing it. To my knowlege, Riku's design was only ever used for Riku. If you're referring to Vanitas, the similarity was also used as a plot device, and he was still redesigned slightly. You can't honestly be trying to say that the KH series lacks creativity because there is just no way.

...Not that I'm trying to passionately defend KH or anything. xD

Well, I am currently playing Kingdom Hearts, the first one on PS2, and I don't like it so much. I prefer 358/2 Days or BbS.

I heavily reccommend sticking with it so long as you make it to KHII. In my rather biased opinion, KHIIFM+ was the best game for PS2 ever :P

On the idea that it was aimed at kids, I think it was supposed to be aimed at a really wide range of audiences, not just kids. Obviously, they use some Disney elements to get the majority of children on board, but the age of the Disney films they incorporated allowed them to create nostalgia in a much wider array of people. Added to that, I think some of the aspects of the main story are pretty out of reach of young kids anyway. I dunno really, just my thoughts.

As you can probably tell, I am/was a bit of a KH fanatic. Haven't played any of the games recently though.

I was planning on doing this at some point, nice work!

Can't open the file though, missing some DLLs. Care to point me in the direction of where I might acquire them?

Words can't express how awesome you are SpooX  :-D

Looks amazing.

58
No need, I'll try doing it right now. Gotta figure out what field file it is though

59
Very impressive stuff, anaho!
Spoox, being the crazy genius that he is, managed to reverse engineer the field files, and load walkmesh and camera data into 3DSMax via Maxscript. This basically means he can get 100% accurate camera angles right from the get-go. If I recall correctly, he can get a script for any field, but you'd have to get Max to use it, unless of course he or somebody else can convert it to python or similar so that it can be used in blender.

60
Roll back your drivers - The latest 64-bit Nvidia drivers screw up FF7 for some reason.

Shaders are hardware-based shortcuts for rendering 3D materials, If I understand correctly. Basically it just makes it faster, I think. You're best to keep them on though, really.

Releases / Re: Project FuLLCOLOR (FFVII PC)

I disagree with the TA Avatars being 'Low Quality'. We get the highest resolution source possible, and upscale it only so the sizes are a uniform amount larger than the originals. Compare yours with this, for instance. And here's the original, upscaled with fractals. That TA avatar hasn't even been upscaled at all.

Although your ones do look great, they look slightly too 'doctored' and not as sharp as they should be.
That's just personal opinion though - You're doing a great job, so keep it up.

Solved Problems / Re: Team Avalanche won't install...
« on: 2011-05-18 11:56:20 »
My problem with this comment is the fact that the folder in which he is pointing out to me is NON-EXISTANT.
That's a registry key, not a folder.

His point was that if you're going to ask about getting a PC program to work, you should at least have researched what the answers you were given meant, rather than wasting further time. Especially since it's pretty basic stuff anyway.

If you'd have googled 'registry', you would have understood what you were supposed to look at to begin with.

I fixed the problem myself, it should have been left at that.
The whole point about a troubleshooting forum is so that future users who also have similar problems can refer to this rather than creating their own threads about it - it saves time and forum space.
To that end, 'Problem fixed' is not a good place to leave the thread, since you haven't specified how you solved the problem. We've already got a user asking you what you did to fix it.

How did you fix it Travis? I'm having the same issue. :-(

Open up regedit, go to this registry directory and make sure you have a similar looking thing. If it doesn't say ff7_opengl.fgd, you'll have to reinstall Aali's driver.

If you have a 64-Bit computer, you need an old version of Aali's driver so that you can use the .reg file from it to automatically edit the registry for you. I don't think you need to with the latest version though.

Before you go any further with this, you should probably check out Team Avalanche - we've got similar aims to what you're trying to acheive, and we've already done a lot of it.

Looking great though, but cloud's a bit too saturated :P

Ah, the irony.

I'd suggest not making pointless posts in loads of old threads to increase your post count or whatever you're up to.

Solved Problems / Re: Which Patch Version
« on: 2011-05-08 00:01:29 »
If you mean what I think you mean, it’s a complete fake and had no other purpose than to spread a virus/Trojan iirc.
However, that 'patch' has been out for years, so I'm not really sure what you're getting at.

Also, not sure this should be in troubleshooting.

Try running it in safe mode - Either that or wait a few hours/days once you've tried to run the installer, It should be running in the background without actually doing anything

I used to have this problem sometimes and safe mode always seemed to work.

Just got myself a pretty expensive condenser microphone with a pop shield, and I'm quite a recording enthusiast. I've got some proper studio equipment and software, so I may try out for a small part like Biggs or something. I'm probably not going to be able to do a group recording or anything though, since timezones will probably conflict etc.

I gotta say it looks really good.... except the mouth :(

Yeah I gotta do lots of tweaking - I prefer tweaking the stuff I'm good at before I attempt stuff that may go badly wrong =D

why this mod isn't released?

Because it's not finished yet.

You don't have a boss that requires you to kill your own party members to be defeated, in FFVII.

TL;DR rest of post/thread, but doesn't ruby weapon count as one of those?
