SOLVED: Team Avalanche won't install...
« on: 2011-05-15 18:06:44 »
Every time I try to run the install setup program I get this message:

Aali's custom driver not installed, or not installed correctly. Please reinstall or try again...

It is installed and I am fairly sure it has been installed correctly, so what's up?

Odd, what does your registry say for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\Graphics
From what i can see it seems that the TA installer detects what the line "Driver" says, if its 3 the installer works, if its something else it gives the error so if you could post what yours says or a screenshot it may help.

C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII

Thats the location of the game files and of the avalanche patch.

A better explanation of what that means would be nice because I don't know what you guys are talking about when you are giving me that directory.

Thanks.

Type regedit into the Execute command.

To be perfectly honest with you, people get tired of repeating themselves and going over things that any PC Windows user should have got off their arse to learn.

I know that is harsh but it is the stage I am at as well.  There are circumstances where naivety to PC is acceptable but when you start down the road of apps and games and getting things working, you should really have researched things like the registry.  It is tedious to keep seeing the same questions and answers pop up every single week.

Oh well.  Just my 2 cents.

My problem with this comment is the fact that the folder in which he is pointing out to me is NON-EXISTANT.

I fixed the problem myself, it should have been left at that.

That's a registry key, not a folder.

His point was that if you're going to ask about getting a PC program to work, you should at least have researched what the answers you were given meant, rather than wasting further time. Especially since it's pretty basic stuff anyway.

If you'd have googled 'registry', you would have understood what you were supposed to look at to begin with.

I fixed the problem myself, it should have been left at that.
The whole point about a troubleshooting forum is so that future users who also have similar problems can refer to this rather than creating their own threads about it - it saves time and forum space.
To that end, 'Problem fixed' is not a good place to leave the thread, since you haven't specified how you solved the problem. We've already got a user asking you what you did to fix it.

How did you fix it Travis? I'm having the same issue. :-(

Open up regedit, go to this registry directory and make sure you have a similar looking thing. If it doesn't say ff7_opengl.fgd, you'll have to reinstall Aali's driver.

If you have a 64-Bit computer, you need an old version of Aali's driver so that you can use the .reg file from it to automatically edit the registry for you. I don't think you need to with the latest version though.

Can Blinding_Solo or Travis come back to confirm NCS's solution works?

If not, I'll close this thread as presumed solved.
