I'm sorry, I'm trying to use the custom driver, but it appears like I'm making some mistake as I can't make it works.
I updated the registry with the .reg file that comes with the pack... put the files in the folder, but my ff7 seems to run the normal way.
And any modifications I do in the .cfg file it takes no effect at all. I don't get any APP.LOG also...

What Am I doing wrong? btw, i'm running in Windows 7 RC - en

Troubleshooting / The APZ Cloud Project!!!!

@ APZ:

About Barret's beard. It's just me or he lost his mouth too? Or this or he is doing a extremelly weird expression that his mouth has gone somewhere else that I can't figure it out.

@ LKM:

I noticed that too... Cloud's got a chick's face... he's not looking so tough anymore in recents compilations...
Guess he's getting used to Miss Cloud .. lol
Anyway... I'm rather see a 'pimped up' high detailed 'girly' Cloud.. than the original lack of details tough one.

I don't want to sound like I'm dissing but...
Why is this so relevant that worthy it's own new topic?
I mean... you don't have this problem anymore... so... why bother?
I read your entire history and when I finally got to the end I was the one who said "WTF?"
All players here had some kind of issues playing this game... when we all have the SAME issue is reported as a BUG...
But when you have a unique issue that just happens with you... it's probably misconfiguration or corrupted files due to whatever reason... I doubt that back then you even tryed to reinstall the game in your pc.
Anyway, don't get angry at me...  I'm just... trying to understand why it would be so relevant now.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Re: Resizing Windows?
« on: 2008-09-29 12:26:02 »
Hey dziugo! thanks for ur tips... I managed to find some stuff on my own.. like the Pause window at battle...
i found X-Y Pos... width-height for window and text position...even the delay for the blinking effect of the text and more stuff...
I didn't change it anyway... i was just testing if i could find something on my own...

but now i need to find something and I'm stuck...
it's the command window for Defend... i actually translated it.. and i would need to change the width of the window...
but i can't seem to find the call for the text... because the text its on the kernel2.bin and i know ff7 loads the kernel2 texts in module ff7.exe address 9A13## ... and i think the calls for 'non-static data' (meaning it is the data that is not loaded from the ff7.exe file) its kinda different..
If you could help me on this...   :|

FF7 Tools / Loveless - a FF7 text editor [v.1 - 2.5]
« on: 2008-09-26 23:44:43 »
I've just found a weird bug using loveless version 2.5.
It happens if you type a % (percent symbol) at the last char of the text or at the start if you delete all test and insert the %.
I've found that while editing the text 7 from Onna_4 level...
the text is:
"The &$#% Room"
i was 'backspacing' the text and got this error when i reached the % :

"Violation d'accès à l'àdresse 004E1BFB dans le module 'Loveless.exe'. Lecture de l'adresse 00000000."

Also... i don't know how accurate the window preview is... but i'm getting some issues from that...
let's say... i got a window like this:

Code: [Select]
"Some text"
and in the preview window it shows me perfect but when i see in game it shows me like this

Code: [Select]
"Some text
without the ending quote... and sometimes happen like this:
Loveless shows me:

Code: [Select]
"Here is some text example
     with 2 lines."

and in game shows me:

Code: [Select]
"Here is some text exampl
e
     with 2 lines."

so i'm kinda always giving my windows some extra space for now on... but i just wanted to report this in case you want to take a look..
I'll have to check some already edited texts (a lot) to see if i'm getting this issue too..

Ok! "blinking icon placement" fixed xD
Thank you very much dziugo!

i really need to do this stuff on my own... where can i start to learn that stuff?
i tried to found who calls the texts disassembler... found some memory pointers... but i couldn't really find what calls window positions related and cursor =/
dziugo can u plz tell me what disassembler/debugger r u using?
btw, im trying with IDA and L. Spiro MHS

Wow!! at first i thought u were about to release a mod with improved stats in kernel.bin ... not a editor itself  :-o
That's really a awesome project... it's really useful so we can have tools to easily edit every single characteristics of the game without needing to lose so much time with programming... also useful to people that don't have programming knowledge at all

REP ++

I really appreciate your work... feel free to ask me for any help
really can't wait to test it

PM me if don't work and i'll pass through for you... i cant do it atm

c ya

after you decompress it with ff7dec... you should have raw formats of each section
named .bin0 .bin1 .bin2 and so on... remembering that .bin0 stands for section 1.... so don't make mistakes in this as some people do...

and yeah... even though pc version don't use the entire kernel.bin sectors... the files from pc and psx version are identical

nice name picking for your mod
looking forward to test it

Welcome to the board NFITC1!

so.. when u unpack ff7gzip u should see a file named "ff7dec.exe"
you will pretty much work only with this one..
the arguments is as follow:

Code: [Select]
Syntax: ff7dec d file.bin

        decodes file.bin in file.bin0, file.bin1, file.bin2, etc etc

        ff7dec e file.bin

        encodes file.bin0, file.bin1, file.bin2, etc etc in file.bin

u can put kernel.bin in the same folder as ff7gzip then u just enter in prompt something like this:

C:\EXAMPLE\ff7gzip\ff7dec d kernel.bin

on psx version... just kernel.bin itself does all the stuff...
on pc version... kernel.bin actually it haves 27 sectors... but only the first 9 are really used...
"sectors 10-27 were put in this secondary kernel archive called kernel2.bin. The data was ungzipped from the original archive, concatenated together, and then LZSed into a single archive with a 4 byte header giving the length of the file." (wiki text)
You can un-lzs it using Ficelzs prog... or u can edit using Teioh as u already said...

for more info about kernel.bin files check wiki at http://wiki.qhimm.com/FF7/Kernel/Kernel.bin

OMG!!!Thanks! How did u found that so fast?
How can i search those things on my own? I may have some other things like that to edit ..

Really appreciated!   :-)

EDIT: I managed to successfully edit this window and adjust selection icon placement to fit... but i got another issue now, when i select the "SELL" option... the blinking selection icon that would indicate that I've selected it, actually it blinks on its original position... =/
I'm really looking forward to learn to find those by myself...
*tries to mess up with IDA pro... also trying to learn ASM*  :-)

yeah... i thought something like that would be the best way to find out how to do it...
unfortunately... I'm suck @ programming atm... I'm still 'learning' to do programming stuff... i have only a basic knowledge about some programming languages, but ASM is not included tho
so i would need a little more help on this

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Resizing Windows?
« on: 2008-09-24 13:19:40 »
OK the thing is.... i need to resize the small window at shop menu... the one that contains the text "Buy  Sell   Exit"
I managed to do this in psx version messing up with the shop.mnu file in hex editor
But I need to do it with the pc version.. and we all know that the menu files were coded into the .exe but i can't see to find it where to do it...
I need to do this because I'm translating and it didn't look good using abbreviation forms of  'buy' 'sell' and 'exit' in my language...
Then the texts need more space... also i would need to change the selection icon placement to fit the selections...
Remembering... i know where the texts are... i need to deal with the window size and selection icon placement...

Hope someone can help me with this...  :?

I don't know what FMV you are having trouble, I'll assume it is wh2e2.avi or white2.avi.
Anyway... one thing you can try to do is make a backup of the original video.. then get some any other video that you know it works, make it a copy from it... and rename it to wh2e2.avi or whatever is the video u r crashing.
Then try to play trought... of course it will play the wrong video as u renamed it... but should get u through that part.
After that you save and undo the renaming thing...  :-P

From start 'til Cloud and Tifa's out of party at Mideel... I probably can do that in 2 days or less.
