I found one small bug. Not game breaking or entirely bad, but i'm pretty sure it shouldn't happen so I figured I should post it. When you are in the first reactor, and are first introduced to ladders, and about hitting start if you get stuck. If you hit start after Jessie finishes talking it teleports you to the point it's supposed to. I think it skips out on a point where you can talk to Barret, and it keeps him solid so you can talk to him. I didn't notice this until I tried to get back up the ladder and couldn't get through Barret, so I talked to him, and after the dialogue box cleared Cloud did a super jump to the top of the ladder and started to climb down. Like I said, not game breaking, but just wanted to point it out.

edit: Ok, so it happens whenever you go back to the area where Jessie is just chillin.

edit: Also, I was wondering if you could go more in depth about the classes of each person. I mean, I can probably guess most of them:
Cloud: Kinda like a battle mage. Well rounded in almost everything, but doesn't really stand out.
Barret: Tank. Lots of hit points, best person to put the cover materia on (if it's still in game) High in defense. Decent in attack, but low on magic.
Tifa: Powerhouse. Does a lot of physical damage, but low on magic damage.
Aeris: Mage. Lots of magic damage, and a great healer. Does low physical damage, and has little health and defense.
Red XIII: I can't really think of anything, maybe something like Cloud is, but with a bit more magic?
Yuffie: Ninja. High speed, high chance to not get hit. Medium amount of health, and decent damage
Vincent: Not sure either, but at just a guess maybe, high attack low defense so it's best to keep him in the back. Kind of like the opposite of Barret with a bit more magic ability then Cloud.
Cid: I'm really not sure with him, maybe just another melee person. I honestly don't know.

Though like I said those are just guesses that I made from my personal perspective so I could be completely off. Especially since I'm still in the first reactor.

edit: Also, in the area when you get barret, it doesn't let you go back to the section where Wedge is.
edit: nevermind, I think that was just me being stupid and not going far enough back.

hello FF7 mod world...im really new at this whole mod thing and i have just one problem i hope someone can help me with. I was able to install bootleg perfect with no problems. the game runs smoothly but after playing for lets say 30 mins my ff7 exe stops responding. looking at my app.log ive notice an error: gl out of memory. I also notice that ff7.exe processes alot of memory.
now doing research on my graphics card i know that its not meant for really powerful games but so far i havent had any issues with ff7.. my only issue is this one. I never had this issue when i installed the remix a few weeks ago. this started to happen only after i decided to upgrade and try bootleg. thanks in advance for anyone who is willing to help me.

I have the same problem, and from what I was told they are aware that there is a memory leak somewhere. It's annoying, but what I do is play in windowed mode and have task manager up with the processes tab selected. Before it gets to the point that it usually freezes I close out and start it back up. Mine usually freezes at around 1.5 mill. K.

All reinstaled again, and its working! :D i can use yuffie again ajjaja
A question... How can i use the Aeris revival? She not appear in the PHS, but i can she her at event like in Gaea's Cliff...
Thanks again! :D

If you are already past the point in which she died the aeris revival patch will not work except for the few scenes. You'll have to start a new game to get the full effects of the patch

Well, at the very least I'm glad he's not as pale as Sephiroth was in Advent Children. I guess it's things like they've done with Cloud that makes me glad they haven't done anything to the other games that make the top of my list, like Legend of the Dragoon. I'm almost terrified of what they would have done to Dart if it had gotten the popularity that FFVII did.

Understandable, but it's still sad, and what makes it even more sad, is that the people who know Cloud as "That emo guy," when they play FFVII, they are going to be disappointed cause it's not the emo Cloud they think they know.

Kingdom Hearts 1 is where they really show their turn for Cloud since they pretty much put Vincent's clothes on him. Kind of like a big sign saying, "By the way, this is how Cloud is going to be from now on."

207
Obviously, their enemy, like Sephiroth isn't going to come up to them and say, "Hey she's right Cloud, you remembered it wrong" and give him a pat on the back.

That kinda did happen, but just later in the story during the first trip to Nothern Cave right before Cloud gave Sephiroth the Black Materia.

I do believe the Jenova Cells theory though. In one cut scene where Tifa finds Cloud in front of the train in Sector 7, the screen flashes and it shows Tifa grab her head and shake no for a split second. I think that could have been the Jenova Cells reacting to her memories, and slightly altering them, but since she didn't have and Jenova Cells in her, it possibly did only so much as to fog the past a bit. Which would explain why she didn't say anything during Clouds retelling of the Nibelheim incident. She new there were some things that Cloud knew that he shouldn't have, but she didn't say anything because the Jenova Cells clouded her mind and so she wasn't completely sure what the truth was.

Let me give an example: you and a friend remember something. One friend says it's one way, and you know for a fact that it happened different from how he said it. You argue for quite a while, insisting that your recollection is the right one. The friend either A. asks another friend or B. shows you some physical proof of what happened somewhere, and then you are like - "Oh Sh*t, that DID happen. I remember now!"

I think it was something like that, except instead of you thinking you know 100% what really happened and you were wrong, you have a vague remembrance of what happened, and what the other person said could also be true, so you just keep quiet so you don't end up looking like an idiot.

Also, I think Cloud left the Buster Sword after they landed when the lifestream had taken care of Meteor. Before he remembered everything, the Buster Sword had sentimental value, but he just couldn't think of why so he couldn't let it go. After he remembered, he kept as a reminder of what happened to him, and represented how him and Zach had become friends. After Sephiroth was defeated, he placed at the place Zach died so he could pay respect to his friend, and put what had happened in the past.

General Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy Versus 13 Cancelled
« on: 2012-07-21 21:42:17 »
I thought X was good. Was it the best? Not by a long shot, but it was good. I wasn't surprised about the voice acting since it was the first time they made an entire game with voice acting. In my opinion, it also had one of the best mini games. I loved Blitzball, which is weird since I don't like sports. I do believe though, that X was the beginning of the end for Final Fantasy sadly. When they came out with X-2, it made me not like it so much that I actually lost a few good opinions about X. (And I could murder them for what they did to Blitzball!) I never played 11, but from what I heard about it, it was a good attempt for a first time at an MMO. Then when 12 came out, I lost hope. The person they tried get people to think was the "Main Character" Vaan, had no point in the story past him trying to steal the stone. Which, if they had just been in Balthiers point of view instead, the story would have continued no problem. That game was just so long, and had too many things to do. I also think that is what influenced 13 to be what it is. Very linear and with barely anything to do. 12 and 13 are on opposite ends of the spectrum I think.

General Discussion / Cloud Strife Then, and Now
« on: 2012-07-21 21:25:10 »
In the beginning of Final Fantasy VII, Cloud was an all out mercenary. He didn't care about the meaning behind the job, or peoples feelings towards it. As long as he was getting paid for it, everything was copacetic. Then he met Tifa again, and you find out about a little of his past, and a the possibility of a love interest with Tifa, and upon Tifa's urging's he agrees to continue on with Avalanche to the next reactor. As the story continues on, we can relate to Cloud and see that he's just like any normal person. He's never too sad. When things go down he gets serious and shows that he is ready for what's to come. He can be funny and helpful. He was like that all the way to the end of the game.

What happened since then? Why is it that when people who haven't played FFVII believe him to be a whiny emo kid? That feeling has visibly transferred to the more recent games and even into Advent Children. In Dissidia he is shown as a extremely depressed man who really has no will to fight there. In the Kingdom Hearts series, he's "given into the darkness in his heart." Even in the original game, even after Aerith dies, he has a sense of humor and goes on with his life and doesn't really take everything onto himself. I have friends who joke around with me when FFVII is brought up, and they relate the song Crawling (in my Skin) to Cloud. That's not how Cloud was depicted at all in FFVII. Cloud was a guy the entire group and even the player looked up to. When he did hit that depressed spot, you were rooting him on to pick himself out of it, and he did.

I personally do not like what SquareEnix has done with Cloud. Don't get me wrong, I played the later games and enjoyed Advent Children, but really, the only character in FFVII that can be considered emo is Vincent, but who would honestly say that to his face?

I don't have Saga Frontier to test this out unfortunately, but it really does seem like it would work, maybe even on PS. Switching out the disc glitches out the game and it will only render the places it has already loaded, and since not much water was loaded upon removing the disc, it didn't load any to get in his way so he was able to traverse the ocean with no problem, getting to wherever he wanted to go. So he could have gone so far as to go to Icicle village and completely skip a bunch of the story if he wanted to, and that's all this really did was skip the part of the story where Aerith leaves the party.

All you'd really have to do is use Black Chocobo and give yourself a gold chocobo to verify the video

That is also completely correct since that would also by pass much of the story using the gold chocobo, which is why you aren't able to raise chocobo's until after this point in the game so something like this couldn't happen.

There's one problem I noticed. During the seed mission, I changed the battle model of Zell and Seifer to Laguna and Kiros. When it got to the point to switch Selphie for Seifer, Seifer(Kiros) disappeared from my main group, and instead of getting Selphie I didn't get anyone. Selphie went in the bottom group with Quistis with no way of bringing her into the group. I don't know if it's anything you can fix, but I figured I would bring it up.

Edit: I ran through again and this time with Seifer in my party the whole way. Once it switched Seifer and Selphie it worked out correctly.

So we're trying this new program that automatically deletes posts that seem whiny or overly immature.   If anyone notices their posts missing, it could be due to this new program...

This makes me want a thumbs up or a like button now.  :-P

...or the live action movie.

Live action movie? O.o, do you mean Advent Children? That was computer animation....

The menu overhaul does come with script fix when translation selected.  The dialogue has not been translated yet or added (PC originally removed it.  It is still present in PSX game.  Hence with PC all you will get are blank boxes). I will make sorting this a priority for R04.

Do you plan on getting rid of it or find someone that can translate the text and then put it in the boxes?

215
So....I made it to the rope bridge on Mt. Corel, and in the middle of the bridge my party members came out and started doing motions. Text boxes popped up, but there was no words in them. What did I miss?

216
Found out something interesting. I don't know if it's a bug with Bootleg or with the Load Anywhere mod itself, but if you hit ctrl+L in the middle of a conversation it brings up the menu. I found it out while trying to restart before fighting the first Hojo specimen when you get Red XIII. It opened the menu with Red XIII in my party (this is even before I named him) and he was level 1. I was able to equip him with a Carbon Bangle and give him more materia. When I got into the fight, he wasn't level 1 anymore (just a guess from his increased health) and he had the materia I gave him. Granted is was quite a helpful bug, and not really a serious bug, but I figured I would bring it up.

This seems like a really interesting project. I have used the FFXII gambit to the extent of not really needing to do anything as long as it wasn't a boss fight with ridiculous health and attack. So, a tool like this would be really interesting to use. I don't know much about coding or such, but I would gladly like to be a bug tester for it.

Here is my feeling on the reason the Final Fantasy VII remake unfortunately has a very high chance of not happening. Final Fantasy 7 is their baby, it's their Magnum Opis. Final Fantasy 1 gave gamers something new to play that was different from all the other Nintendo games out their, but Final Fantasy 7 was just beautiful and so graphically intense for it's time. It's like when a parent has more than 1 child, and has a favorite but doesn't want it to show, but everyone knows anyway.

They are afraid that if they make a remake of it, they will ruin the game. It won't have the same feel as the original did, and won't cause the same reactions that the old one did. It might even cause some people to react badly and it could be the game they wish they never made.

The reason I think this way, is that they have remade Final Fantasy 1 - 6, some multiple times with just updated graphics and adding more dungeons and items, and a few here or there that have added voices in them. They are also doing an HD remake for Final Fantasy 10 for the ps3 and Vita (which I am hoping will add online multiplayer Blitzball), but they haven't touched, or have made any announcement of a 7 remake.

They know that if they remake 7, they will change more than just the graphics and doing that may ruin the game for all it's fans. Now, if a remake is made will I buy it? You damn right I will, and until that day comes I will still have hopes of a remake, but don't get too strung up on the idea. The longer they go without doing a remake, will be longer you crave for it. So until the possibility of that day comes to view on the horizon, just stick with Qhimm and all the amazing mods they have come up with, cause for now, this is the best possible remake out their.

219
I can't fully check this until I get my hard drive back, but the only problem I've been getting that I haven't read (or have missed) from the posts, is that while running Bootlegged Final Fantasy VII, my game keeps taking up so much memory.

While playing, I keep my task manager processes tab open to watch the memory. I noticed that every time I go into a new area, the memory goes up at least 20,000k, and with each new room I go into it goes up another 20,000k or so, and eventually I will enter a new area, and my game will just stay black screen.

It might be because I'm trying to play it on hardcore mode which is kind broken cause I also have mode switcher on. I'll test this when I get my hard drive back, but I've had the same memory problems with 0037, but again that may have also been another error on my part.

I just wanted to bring it up just in case it was a bug. I'll test it again with it on Normal Mode to see if it still does the same thing.

Thanks for the link to the TestFiles.exe file. At least I know my files aren't damaged now. I also managed to bypass the laptop keyboard problem. It turns out you can just press Esc to go directly to the Select option and continue from the naming screen. However, I have two remaining problems.

1. My battle interface looks like this:
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1911/ff7battleerror.png
How do I fix this?

I also had this problem. I think what Leonhart said is correct, but if not try going into the bootleg configuration and running it in safe mode and see if the error continues.

Yes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0YR_B4kXwg

Ah, yeah I can see where the animations are a bit buggy. Like when he casts magic he lays down for a split second before and still doesn't do his casting animation. Well, pretty much anything that would trigger a different animation than just standing there makes him lay down. I would figure if he can make Silver Chocobo do the chocobuckle animation for chocobo's to use Deathblow it might be possible to do the same with the doppelgangers, but then again, like I said before, it's probably completely different to have a battle against a character than it is to just change a normal monster a bit. Also, would it be possible to take the same coding for the fight with Yuffie and incorporate it into the doppelganger fights so it won't be as buggy?

@strife98
I once tried to do this. There are some problems with the animation, but I think it is doable. If I get some inspiration to work with it I'll definitely try it.

That would be awesome! If you want some idea's on it I have alot, like each character have 1 summon and status attacks that would make sense with that summon (like Shiva and Slow/Stop) and maybe have each one have a certain elemental attribute that goes along with the summon that would help them in the fight (but not make it help too much possibly) I mean, it might turn Ancient Forest into more of an end game side quest than at the earliest a late game second disc side quest, but I think it would give Ancient Forest more of a mysterious feel to it and have the player feel a bit more accomplished about getting through the entire thing, cause I don't know about you, but getting through Ancient Forest is me just wanting to go get the Apocalypse and the Slash-All materia. I dunno, I just feel it should have a bit more to it, and I think Doppelgangers would be a perfect fit for it. Like a feeling of left over Ancient magic? Just a thought I mean it doesn't -have- to be in the Ancient Forest, I just figured it'd be the best spot for it. If you'd like help on it.....I know absolutely nothing about how to do it, but I'd be willing to learn =D.

223
@strife98: Thanks for sending me your files for analyzing.

No problem, thanks for the help. Now...do you have a solution as to why on the other computer it starts at 200,000 KB memory in the task manager processes tab, and slowly grows until it hits somewhere between 1,600,000 and 1,700,000 KB mem and then freezes? I was told by a friend it might be my computer since it's about 5 years old, and that it may also be that I'm running windows 7 on it and it came with windows vista that running ff7 with the mods on windows 7 is just taxing out my computer. I don't have the best video card, and it -is- a laptop (tho thankfully one with the numberpad) So anything you need to figure this out or am I just SoL on playing FF7 continuously on this computer?

fighting against him IS possible? well, previously playing around with the Jenova save editor I was able to run around with 3 Clouds in my party so I thought it wouldn't be too glitchy to do the doppelgangers. but i guess having 3 clouds is different than fighting a cloud while cloud is in your party

One thing that would be amazing, if it were possible. Was maybe in the Ancient Forest or possibly a special event in the Battle Arena in the Golden Saucer was if there was a way to fight like, doppelgangers. Like maybe in the Ancient Forest have the Cloaked NPC's dotting the area here and there, and each one you defeat would give you the good items in the Ancient Forest. I know all of them can't do that, but they could just be there to fight them if you want or you could have them hold a nice little item or something like that. For example of what I'm talking about, you could have a doppelganger of Vincent for the Supershot ST or a doppelganger of Red XIII for the Spring Gun Clip, and holding the Typhoon Materia would be a Clouds Past Sephiroth doppelganger. I just think it would be an awesome little addition to the sub quest of Ancient Forest. I mean, if Yuffie can be a fight, is there a way to make the other characters a fight?
