step 1 - install the aali driver
step 2 - extract this mod contents into the "mods" directory
step 3 - edit "ff8_opengl.cfg" and set this line like this:

I can confirm what Pikkuhippi said on previous posts:

On the first Laguna "Dream World", every small event seems to crash the game. I'll explain:
The game is OK when the Laguna scene loads, but when I try to open the menu -> crash; when a battle occurs -> crash. Walking around doesn't crash it though.

Since I'm using Wine (Linux), it printed 2 errors lines when crashing:

Makes FF8 totally playable on Linux, with much better performance than in a crappy Win7

In the PSX version, I used the debug room to get them, but only zell/selphie/squall have alternate clothes.

It's too bad Rinoa can't fight with her dress...

I've just updated my save, It's a new file now and already has Edea/Seifer.
The 2nd save has Laguna & Kiros instead of Edea/Seifer.

The Rinoa's Angelo issue has been fixed (was top-priority)

Any other issue can be fixed with a code

I don't think it's possible to get Magical Lamp from Chocobo World... But how will you even emulate a pocketstation in ePSXe or other emulator? (does that even exist?)

I already found the fix for the character change in world map. But Rinoa still can't use Limit Breaks...

According to http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197343/4929 you can however i have never actually got it that way so i'm not sure it is possible.  I have gotten at least one Pet Nametag though.  I was thinking in terms of the pc version and it coming with chocobo world.


Maybe it's (remotely) possible with Angelo Search...
But these 2 ways of getting it would be too much difficult (more like impossible). You can always sell the item you want...  :wink:

Haha - I already defeated all bosses from Ultimecia's Castle

The only GFs I don't have right now are Bahamut and Tonberry.

How much time has passed since you last played FF8?
Maybe you want to play it again but... it's always the same thing... gets a little boring...

So, what could we do to make it more interesting?


I though that myself and I've been "working" for the last few days for something cool.

What if you start the game at Disc 4 instead of 1? - that's my little challenge


I've prepared a NTSC game save for PSX FF8 that has the following:
- Start at Disc 4, Edea's House
- All characters with their initial levels
- Extra Edea and Seifer enabled (or Laguna and Kiros instead, optionally)
- Same items as if you were starting a new game (I only added "Magical Lamp", since there's no way to get it on Disc 4)
- 5000Gil
- Quezacoatl/Shiva + Ifrit and Cerberus GF (you wouldn't be able to get them otherwise)
- No magic for no one
- No cards
- You are not SeeD (no salary)
- (Once you get Tonberry, you'll) Access to all Shops (needed for Rinoa/Zell limit breaks)
- GFs haven't received any AP
- Time 00:00


I used the debug room to jump over events and runned from Bosses so GFs/Chars didn't get any Exp/AP
Then I've reset the battle counters (wins/run aways/etc).

Because I jumped too much stuff this save has some "bugs" (thread title says "BETA")
- Cannot change characters in field/save mode - FIXED (Check bottom of post)
- Rinoa can't use "Angel Wing" - Easily fixed once someone finds a code for it


Use the gamesave with your favorite PS1 emulator and have fun!

Code that will fix the char change in field - 300781A9 000F
Just enable it, go to the world map, save and restart the emulator without codes. Done.

Code for fix the Laguna/Kiros resetting to Edea/Seifer:

To enable/disable Edea/Seifer or Laguna/Kiros:
80077C2C 0001 - seifer/laguna
80077CC4 0001 - edea/kiros
(change 0001 to 0000 to disable it)

I used a program called Omega..
it converts all the Tex. files into BMP..
then i did all my work in photoshop and paint.
then i use omega again to convert the BMP. images into a .tex file..
:D...

*(WOOT... 777 views.. that is a lucky number.. :P)*

I just tried this yesterday. Pretty awesome  :wink:

But I have one suggestion/request - can you make "Omega Extreme" LVs/Stats with "Ultima Hard" HP?
I mean, it's not by increasing enemy's HP that the game will become more difficult, just more boring... Specially at the beginning...

20'000HP bite bug it's lot of time... for 1AP!! aahhhh....  :x

I think 3x enemy's stats and 10-20x HP will be hard enough  8-)

I started making "looped" songs from the orchestral arrangements (maybe piano as well, in time...)

I can't go to Dollet (1st mission) before the GF draw bug is fixed...

Can PSP games be 'ported' to normal PSX?

I know normal PSX games like FF7/8/9, Gran Turismo, etc, can be played on the PSP.

It should be possible to reverse the process...
