I've fixed my previous post so you can understand what I meant earlier.
FF&music sucks no matter what do you use: PSFs or MP3s. It just doesn't do some things properly, does not fade outs when it's needed, does not stop/continue in many cases, etc... This is much more annoying then the bad MIDI quality even.
I have to agree here, it's not a solution at all.

Sounds badass, but with the money you're gonna pay for that i could probably buy 3 to 4 machines with lower hardware but still good enough to run any game at at the very least 1440x900. xD

Well, every time they talk about the PS3 I hope they finally add full backwards compatibility for the European consoles, but that didn't happen again. Their motion controller seems really good in terms of response and all, but i think soon they'll realize that all their best games wont use them. All you guys that have a Wii and ever tried games like No More Heroes 2, Samurai Warriors 3, Monster Hunter 3, etc, know exactly what i mean, the games really worth the money and that actually make us enjoy them for long periods of time (more than 1 hour, lol) are the ones originally meant to be played using the classic controller pro.

Microsoft was really good on this one, they finally made a console close as good as the PS3 in terms of features for it's price. It doesn't have blu-ray but at least it's €50 cheaper which helps a little bit.

The Nintendo one was IMO the worst one, but maybe cause i don't enjoy all this 3D B.S. at all. But you guys should still check the Nintendo 3DS if you're into that.

As a side not for the main post:
Final Fantasy 11 was the best online RPG I've ever played by far, and I've played a lot of them, payed and free. The new FF14 seems pretty crappy tho.

No news on this topic? I've been waiting for new ways and ideas to fix the game music instead of replacing it with external mp3 files which is far from an ideal solution.

Well, this best way to add this would be to make it part of Aali's driver, or a plugin for it.
If they talk it out and make it part of it, I'm 100% the menu wont have any changes in terms of HP, Barrier (...) positioning as that is not the objective of the driver at all.
If it's released as a plugin it can probably accept parameters too to move the stuff around a little.

But this is just me guessing, plus there is still the animation area limit problem to fix first, so 1 thing at a time. :P

Yep, it sure it's getting pretty nice!
Think the most it can be done with the HP is to make it similar to the MP so that some extra space can be saved (that plus the 2 in 1 time+limit would really save a lot of space), but with the whole bar transparent those info's do not get in the way at all.

33
In the end, all of this resumes to: "there is a plugin that is able to and play read the music perfectly for Winamp, isn't it possible to do something similar to FF7 so it can replace that silly default midi driver completely?"
'cause it all comes down to fix the music. :)

I talked with aali about htis some time ago. The short of it is that he said it'd take a lawng time to get working. the longer version is that there is debatable reason to set it up, as many field backgrounds are clipped anyways, and if they were rendered widescreen, a lot would still have cut off edges.
True, but that happens in many areas already, check some of the areas at Cosmo Canyon for example.
It would just make wide-screen look way better without that god awful stretching.

Looking at that test reminded me of how bad the 4:3 ratio is.
It's kinda sad that we won't get to see half of the good work you guys are doing, for a lot of the time spent on the field screens. :(

Would you guys consider making them widescreen?
I know that it would require a bit of imagination (to expand parts of the scene), and some tweaks from Aali, but as far as improving the look of FF7 goes, would be pretty awesome.

Example:

Original FF7 720p

Widescreen FF7 720p

Yeah... these are engine limitations. I bet Aali even has plans to expand the screen so we can see the whole image already, kind of like the battle menus, but different, just didn't had enough time to make it happen.

Classic of 'course!

OK, this has been driving me crazy since I discovered this project. The music cuts out during the Highwind FMV in Junon when using FF7music. However, with Aali's new driver the file, wind.wav, is receiving an error. Now here's where it becomes relevant; the music cuts out at the exact same time the error message appears. So I figure we could just stop wind.wav from playing at that part since it seems responsible.

I've been trying to modify flevel in Meteor, however as soon as the FMV starts the game crashes... So I'm just putting this idea out there in case anyone with more programming experience wants to take a crack at it.

The FMV is triggered in Junair2. However Junair2 doesn't like to load in meteor; 9 times out of 10 it crashes.

...so you wanna "screw" the original game to make the FF7music mod work...?
Might be more simple just to not use the modded track for that area.

It fails to load the wind right before the final battle too.
Probably just another small mistake when creating an awesome feature. ;)

Alright, well this is where I had gotten with Red a few weeks ago. Seems that while I was busy with life/other obligations, Max 8 took a crap dive, and I can't get assets into BodyPaint from Max 2010. -,-

So it's going to take me some time to get everything back to normal... assuming that it'll work that way.

I just LOVE the colouring as is! Simple yet so close to the original style!

I think it's not important how but the principle, if we can speak about no-cd  check we can not differ from who have the original CD and not. I think eidos-squaresoft tolerate mod only for original CD and speaking about copy protection can lead them to action against Quimm or worst against Aali and is incredible driver and I prefer have original FF with mod that a possible solution for cd-check without mod.
I hope to not hurt anyone but I already read about legal action and project lost for this and this is a very pity.
It's kind of Square-Enix fault for not re-releasing the game with an updated engine (ONLY!) on STEAM, I'd buy it a 3rd time just so I don't have to keep any media for the PC version anymore since may many computers don't have a DVD Drive anymore.
Plus I think the most valuable version is still the PS1 one with the original black label box, which i own of 'course. :)

Regarding Aali driver, it doesn't change the ff7.exe game file in any way, so his work is 100% clear.
Plus it helps everyone who has the game being able to play it with modern OS's, something Square-Enix did not do.
(Didn't Eidos even took a patch made by a user to fix the game before..?)

Also, don't bother to refer to it as Square-Eidos or something, Eidos was bought by Square quite some time ago, and think Eidos is also being renamed to Square-Enix Europe Inc. sometime soon.

Auto-run with key to deactivate it when necessary!
Now that's something I'd love to see in a plugin!

Yeah, it's definitely just an error.
To work around it for now just make sure you have saves in all 10 slots (00 to 09) and the game will start, I'm sure Aali just missed it by accident.

InuRa, you could make dummy images of the gamediscs and use those with Daemon tools. The only thing FF7 looks for is the name "FF7DISC1" etc., the contents of the disc doesn't matter. Which means that you don't need a No-CD crack, and can therefore use Aali's driver.

Really? Well, that's a good idea then if it takes no more extra space. I'll give it a try. Thanks. :)

The no-cd patch is used usually for the illegal downloaded version and obviously it's not supported.

...or with small laptops, don't forget those.
I have the original PS1 and PC versions of the game, yet, the place where I like to play it the most is on my 11.2' laptop of 'course since it makes it kinda portable. Daemon-Tools makes me waste some extra 600MB on the CD, when I even decreased my video quality to make them use a total of 400MB just so I have more space for stuff.
Yeah, upgrading my 160GB hard drive is not an option, and neither is wasting 1+GB with "nothing", need to upgrade the RAM to 3GB first. :P

This error doesn't seem to be related to the .exe changes tho, otherwise I'm pretty sure Aali would have made a nice "Go buy the game... somewhere... somehow..." message for everyone instead of that, but then again i haven't had a chance to analyze it yet.

FF11 was a masterpiece IMO, best MMORPG by far from any other by light-years.

FF14 seems like a game more dedicated to "weekend" players tho.

Anyway, I'm sure there's another thread about FF14 somewhere... better continue the discussion there.

VERY YES! ;D
+ YES! Played it! Love it!

i think SL was up for having dls at different resolutions
The low res textures just cause graphical problems with downscaling, I'm quite positive that something along the order of 90% (a vast majority) of people use the high res ones even if they run the game at 1280x960 or something.

I'd like to think that a resolution close to 1080p would be ideal. I think that'd be... 4.5x the original? 1440x1080

Just make 3 releases:
2x, 3x and 4x, this way no matter what kind of computer you have, you'll be able to run the game perfectly fine.

Hi,
now postprocessing is slower than 0.7.5b ver and more slowest than 0.7.3a. With postproccesing active and set on median ver 1 (my previous post) with this version videos remain a black screen with sound. With median ver2 it's still playable. What can I do return on 0.7.3b performance? Made I some error?
Bye,
    Rigel
I've noticed this too since I usually play on my laptop, the performance really took a huge hit.

I think the problem here is the GPU and Vista, not the CPU.
I'm pretty sure even an MX440 with Windows XP would be able to run FF7 @ 800x600 with a stable frame rate with that much RAM easily.
