Smoking in video games

Children, gather around.

I've found out a surefire way to tell if a game is good; check if the protagonist has a chance to smoke. No, seriously.

For example:
  • Metal Gear Solid series
  • Fallout series
  • Deus Ex

They all feature cigarettes and smoking.

Prove me wrong... if you can.

EDIT: Crap, forgot at least System Shock 2. Add that to the list as well.

Ugh. People who smoke "cause it's cool" are lame. >_>
If you smoke because you want to, fair enough (I myself do), but doing it to look "cool"? Meh. -_-"

The initial post is very opinionated.  He actually believes what he says is a fact!  What a slag.

Prove me wrong... if you can.

That was the best part!  And that pretty much proves that he thinks his statement is factual.

Oooh, d00d, you have issues. :-D

How about - instead of whining and moaning - actually trying to prove that I'm wrong? Hmm?

Not that I have played it, but I believe that Sgt Johnson is not the protagonist?

Not to mention that Metacritic disagrees with you, rather strongly even. :P

For that matter, I do not care for GTA-series, but critics seem to think they are good, so...

Metacritic doesn't usually agree with me, however I also don't like the GTA series...  It's boring. :-D

Touché.

wrong, it was just an opinion, not a fact.

Opinion

Quote
An opinion is a person's ideas and thoughts towards something which it is either impossible to verify the truth of, or the truth of which is thought unimportant to the person. It is an assertion about something especially if that something lies in the future and its truth or falsity cannot be directly established e.g. induction. An opinion is not a fact, because opinions are either not falsifiable, or the opinion has not been proven or verified. If it later becomes proven or verified, it is no longer an opinion, but a fact.

Fact

Quote
Generally, a fact is defined as something that is true, something that actually exists, or something having objective reality that can be verified according to an established standard of evaluation.[1][2][3] There is a range of other uses, depending on the context. For example, fact may be argued under authority of a specific pedagogy, such as scientific facts or historical facts. Rhetorical assertion of fact is often forwarded without an implied or express basis of authority.

Metal Gear Solid - Metascore of 94 out of 100 - Universal acclaim - based on 20 reviews
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Metascore of 96 out of 100 - Universal acclaim - based on 42 reviews
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Metascore of 91 out of 100 - Universal acclaim - based on 68 reviews
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - Metascore of 94 out of 100 - Universal acclaim - based on 79 reviews

Fallout - Metascore of 89 out of 100 - Generally favorable reviews - based on 12 reviews
Fallout 2 - Metascore of 86 out of 100 - Generally favorable reviews - based on 15 reviews
Fallout 3 - Metascore of 93 out of 100 - Universal acclaim - based on 32 reviews

Deus Ex - Metascore of 90 out of 100 - Universal acclaim - based on 28 reviews

System Shock 2 - Metascore of 92 out of 100 - Universal acclaim - based on 20 reviews

That's 316 people who review games for a living agreeing that games which allow you to smoke are very, very good.

But hey, if you want to call it an opinion, go right ahead. I heard that De Nile is pretty nice place to live in.

It's general consensus, not fact.  He never claimed it to be fact.  You've not proved it to be wrong.

I don't think the entire worlds population cares enough to do games reviews.

Please tell me how I can prove this general consensus wrong.  You can't, its impossible, and you can never prove it right either.

If I say, "I'm bloody amazing at FF7, I'm better than everyone!!!!!!!"

Prove me wrong if you can.

Does the above mean I'm expressing a fact, bullsh*t, or my own opinion?

Jari said games where the protagonist smokes is a good game.  That's to him, and with the games mentioned, the majority on Meta.  If you don't like the games on that list, meh, personal choice.

It's a theory, numbskull. Apparently on a fast track to becoming a fact, since it would appear that nobody has been able to prove it wrong.

I've talked about this with few of my friends, and they couldn't prove it wrong, either. I am curious about why the apparent connection exists, but I'm waiting if someone can disprove my theory, before I get into discussion why such connection exists.

It's crazy how Jari can make just a fun whimsical topic for discussion and a little word "fact" can spark an argument.  Instead of getting all wound up about if it is fact, just play the game and prove him wrong.  Jesus Christ, people try and spark a lively conversation and a wet blanket has got to shoot it down...

/On Topic
How about Max Payne?  If I recall he was a smoker, and feelings about this series is very mixed.  Please discuss and play nice.
