Is it just me or is it weird that the ENTIRE staff of a clearly International Mega-Company that acts as its own government and has its own city, would be run by a flock of such foolish people?
I mean, I remember reading a tons of lines of script from ppl related from shinra that had no good reasoning to them at all.
One example: Lets gather all the huge materia and RAM IT into Meteor. Yeah that will work, since our own lives and the lives of everyone else are on the line, I really don't think we should contemplate this plan of action any further!
Im sorry but that was the most horrible plan I have ever heard.
Also why did rufus want to take the tiny bronco from Cid when he had the Highwind?
I have more, but I will let you guys go first.
I await to hear your examples of Shinra's foolishness, and please laugh at their ignorance as well!
-
My only thing with the huge materia is probably someone was ignorant enough to think it would cause enough of an explosion to distroy meteor.
-
the reason they're searching for the promised land is cause rufus's dad had a hunch that there would be mako.

Dude. Way off topic...
-
Sending the Huge Materia into space was most likely the same thought process as what happened in Armageddon. Big explosion...etc etc.
That's a good point about the Tiny Bronco and Highwind though... Was it maybe not built yet?
-
I thought it was there on ur first visit... maybe not.

no it's not. shinra mismanagement. they're searching for the promised land on a hunch that there might be mako. an uninformed decision made on an arbitrary belief.
-
yeah lol any incident of shinra acting stupid should be put here. Anything that seems less than befitting for that size organization.

If I remember correctly They needed it cause the Highwind was being repaired or something.

Ok then don't do a half a sentence. And thats President Shinra to you kiddo. :P
Not really uninformed. If it was a word of mouth rumor then yes understandable. But since they found the existance of Ancients to be true they bet on that the promised land was true. To Shinra the promised land was "a haven of life" and therefore would be abundant with Mako.

ok in advent children. rufus finds jenova but decides to keep it on him even though kadaj is looking for jenova. then when kadaj finds out he has it he tries to destroy it at the last second by jumping off a building and shooting the box containing jenova cells with his gun.

So what you're saying is that he should have distroyed it in the first place.
Basically my thought was that rufus was playing the clones so that he could gain Cloud as a member of Shinra.

This. Seems to me it was cuz they heard that the promised land had a lot of life energy (well doesn't it? it is the life stream after all :P) and a lot of life energy = a lot of mako energy. :P So seems to me that was the right thing to do.
I'm not sure about this one but the way I saw it/remember it, Hojo was trying to mate Aeris with Red XIII so that the ancients wouldn't be extinct? Mating a humanoid with a dog-like creature doesn't sound very promising if you ask me. :P Though I'm not sure if that's what was implied but that's what I understood from it lol.

What if in a fix they change "mating" into "Cloning" like they did with the Soldiers and Genesis. Would make more sense. Throw two species DNA into a Clone.

I think they sounded kind of stupid to make the game and their lines fun to read. I guess they designed the game to be that way for humor. :)

Hojo was kinky and wanted to add something exotic to his hentai collection.
As to silly shinra things, this is a bit off topic, but with the whole huge materia thing, its not all bad. i think it might've worked. what i dont get is why does avalanche try to stop them. Please illuminate this for me, i really dont rmmbr what the reasoning is. I recall something along hte ligns of... shinra's doing this... they're bad... lets stop them. realise, the rocket goes into the meteor with zero or 1 huge materia. and you blast off a chunk of its shell.... with just a rocket. if the explosive power was in fact augmented by all the huge materia you stole from them, then it might've actually worked... except we just dont like shinra :P
-
Yes I did have a problem with Avalanche stopping them, except I just played that part and it never explains why your stopping them.
The game text says something along the lines of"We have to stop them" seriously lol and never iterates why, it just goes to barrett saying how he wants to get it to show cloud, and then they make fun of him liking cloud. Then ya go get it :)
-
It does explain the reason in the game.
You stop them because since materia = condensed lifestream, there's "generations" of knowledge inside each materia that is too precious to be lost.
Whether that's sound reasoning in the face of impending doom is another matter entirely though.
As for stupid decisions, how about breeding monsters in a mako reactor ? That's pretty damn stupid to create your own enemies.
-
Rufus wants the Tiny Bronco because the Highwind is still being prepared, Heidegger mentions it during Rufus' parade in Junon.
-
i think the reason rufus didn't destroy jenova's remains was simply because he didn't know if that would destroy the remains, or spread them and cause quicker spread of the geostigma
-
I think it was said that if the Huge Materia had been destroyed, Holy would not have been powerful enough to stop Meteor. And the Lifestream itself would have been wounded, so that the end of the world would have come about even if Aerith still pulled that stunt at the end of the game.

I think not. If you got all the huge materia from Shinra the rocket will blast through meteor and still the same effect. So it has nothing to do with the Huge Materia.
-
I also didn't understand why Rufus neede the Tiny Bronco, but if I rememeber clearly, the Highwind didn't work at the time in the game. Think about it, Shinra has millions of gil to spend, why steal some dirty old plane from 900 B.C?
'tis foolishness.
-
Remember how rufus was like, I will rule the people with fear, not money.
I guess his attitude applied to the skies as well, at least the not money part.
-
It seems like controlling the world with fear was a bad idea after he found out he couldn't build airplanes with it.

in other words, rufus shinra is poor :P
-
Well obviously it was vital to annoy Cloud & co.

Shin-Ra rules, and is in charge. It decides what is gonna happen and the people obey. If you don't agree I will steal that small amount of Gil in your top drawer.... Taxation is a bitch. :-D

NOOOZ, NOT MY GIL :P

If I don't take it now, I want your Turbo Ether later. :P

NOO! isn't it like, supposed to be medicine or something that the kid says.
-
;D no you can steal his gil but if you don't and come back later you get a turbo ether. Personally I always rob the fucker.

I'll have to go in game to check but I think the time you steal the gil the boy says that he's saving money to get medicine for someone in his family. Hence the turbo ether is probably the medicine.
-
ahh cool! didn't know that :P If he does that is pretty cool!
