Title: Mendelevium's Custom Models 2
Post by: Mendelevium on 2010-06-22 07:36:53
I some how accidentally deleted my original thread while trying to edit, gee do I feel smart. Well as the name implies I am going to be posting my custom 3D content in this thread. I am one of those weirdos who loves constructive criticism, so don't worry about my feelings, tear my models apart, I want to get better!

Well I will start with one relevant to FF7, here is my schpeel on Aeris/th's Umbrella:

A mess up on Aeris/th's first staff:

Another staff thing:

A big sword:

A WIP of a rifle:

Part 2 of that rifle:

Now, any criticisms? :3.

Thanks,
Mendelevium

I really liked another staff thing and the rifles. It seems if you stuck the stock from rifle 1 onto 2 it would look great.

Thanks. :D.
On the second rifle, I am going to completely remake the stock later, to match the reference I am using a bit more.

I gotta make that bolt... slide thingie @.@.

Of course it is the first one you find in google images. ;).

But yeah. The rifles got the most love. ^.^.

The guard has potential.

When you split it up into the different sections, try to make the coat 'tail' not clip with the running animations.

So far, I'm a little impressed with how good it looks, let's see if you can follow it up when you're getting closer to completion.

I was actually wondering how I was going to go about doing that. XD. And it's already all split up..  The parts are just pushed together to make it look like one model. :P.
And the guard is my first "to detail" humanoid. I made a first draft of it ages ago... And it was crappy. :p.

Another model I made.. I even made a simple design and sketch for it... My first Katana:

I don't know if I like the "completely" straight model... or the one that gets slightly more narrow as the blade goes down.

It looks good man. :) I think it will look much better if its slightly curved since it looks like more of a female ninja's sword(ayame's weapon from tenchu looks like that).

You know, the bridge could be modified into sword.  You could stick a load of vinyls and stuff on it when texturizing.  Would make an epic weapon.

The Ultima Blade from FFXII is an example of what I'm thinking of.

Just an idea.  You could decorate it as a bridge as well.  I don't know what you intend to do with these models, whether or not you'll even texturize them, or indeed if you even do texturizing.

I am focusing first on learning the in and outs of the program I am using, and overall 3D in general. Before I tackle UV mapping and then texturing. I do intend to learn though. I plan on making my own game one day, purely as a hobby. :P. But yeah, that bridge is a bridge, I don't feel like touching it anytime soon... That thing will be painful to texture. @.@.

And...I never beat FFXII. :P. So that is my first time seeing the  Ultimate weapon. It seems rather flashy...o.O

Edit:

A New sword, I designed this one myself :3 :

nice sword and progress on the guard.

@ sword, interesting gear thingy, it doenst seem to serve much function, but its nicely shaped.

@ guard, look at the original model, and try to maintain the silhouette as best possible. Keep it up!

I am going to remake it me thinks, I am complete unsatisfied with my Red Shinra guard. This time I am going to go with a ground up apparoach.
Here is the start (they aren't done, just base shape, still need to smooth out, add more detail, and tweak.)

Edit:

Edit2:
Random Sword:

I am thinking about cutting the guard horizontally through the middle... I don't know yet

There are about a hundred different custom sword models for Cloud already.

Effort should be concentrated on models which haven't been done yet.

Perhaps a model of Konata, done from scratch, for importation into FF7.  Would that be to your liking? ;)

Well he have already done some swords and it would be a waste if he wouldn't share it if he wants to.

It would be a waste to have over 9000 Buster Swords.

Also, there are quite a few enemies in FF7 who use swords. If Mendelevium decides to use these models as a base for making swords that can be used in FF7, it would be better to use them as a base for swords that haven't been remodeled. Hmmm, that first sword looks a little like the cone-shaped sword the the generic SOLDIER enemies use, don't you think? Maybe it could be used as a base for replacing the sword used by SOLDIER?

EDIT:

Ah, it's an umbrella ;D

Still, with a little remodeling it could become a sword :P

Double posting is one of the seven deadly sins, along with spamming, trolling, necroposting, having oversized avatars, asking for help with Ultima Edition, and going off topic.

"And going off topic..."

Oh crud...

I never really understood what the big beef was about double poasting. =/

I imagine that the main reason is that allowing double posting would allow other bad behaviour such as people bumping their threads too often or doing really annoying things like triple or quadruple posting. I also find that the people who constantly double post tend to be trouble causers.

It also looks bad to see the same person posting twice on a page. Fortunately, my posts were the last on the first page and the first on the second, so this was an aesthetically pleasing double post ;D

Omg I know I totally got confused, I kept on going from page 1 to page 2 wondering why there was a post from you at the bottom of page 1 and one at the top of page 2. @____@ Thought I missed some invisible post or something.

And I guess it makes sense to say that it encourages people to spam or bump, but making two consecutive poasts that aren't spammy is no big deal.

;D An "aesthetically pleasing double post"? lol

Double/triple/quadruple/mega-multiple posting is also a way to up your post count when you really don't deserve it.  It also makes the topic look more popular than it is (off topic posts also have this effect D=).

Double posting on its own is no biggie, though.  Even repeat offenders get away with it (which makes me twitch a little o_e).  But accidental/infrequent double posting is natural, especially in someone with >9000 ~2.5 thousand posts ;)

I knew there was some major reason for not allowing it that I'd forgotten! ;D

Yes, artificially increasing one's post count is naughty, especially since so many people on forums seem to think that a person's knowledge of what they are talking about and the weight of their opinion are directly correlated to their post count.

Shut up, this thread is a Kudistos Megistos circle jerk now, just like every other thread in this forum! >:(

Seriously though, I'm afraid that my lack of modeling ability leaves me unable to give you any decent critique. I mean, you seem to be able to produce models that look like the things they're meant to be, so...erm...ganbatte? ;D

I am working on the Red Shinra Guard for Team Avalanche. It is taking forever cause I am unsatisfied with my work, and I am unable to make hands, feet, and heads properly. :P.

And I enjoy modeling for modelings sake, I don't necessarily intend to mod FF7. Then again, I did begin learning 3D so I could make models for Team Avalanche so.... Take that as you will. ^.^.
