Title: Can't get FFVII to install
Post by: jkoz on 2010-06-28 16:05:21
Dug up my FFVII CDs and running into a problem.. can't get the game to install at all. I open setup.exe and the installer comes up with the Install Game/DirectX/MIDI install selection, and when I click on Install (or any of these options) the screen disappears and nothing happens. Setup.exe continues to run in my task manager, and I let it sit for an hour and nothing happened. I am running Windows 7 64 bit, 4GB RAM, couple hundred GB free, latest DirectX and gfx drivers installed, ATI 4850 card installed. Anyone that might know how I can work around this? Saw the new patch and would love to see it running on my PC, thanks in advance.

Run it in safe mode - worked for me a while back. Strangely, I've never had to do it since.

Try downloading the ISO files, and downloading an ISO virtual drive mounting program.

Final Fantasy VII PC Version (Virus free) - Do not post links to pirated versions here
Daemon Tools can be downloaded off the site (I think it's currently unavailable, so try The Pirate Bay).

I do believe that is illegal and is not supported here.

it sounds like you have to run it  maybe in a compatibilty mode or as admin.

Doing either of those things never actually worked for me. In fact, compatibility mode has never solved any problem I've ever had with any program ever. That's just me though.
Btw this thread is quite old, I remember replying to it a while back. *points upwards*

Less than two weeks. Not that old by a long shot.

Compatibility mode is mostly helpful for FF7Music, I've never needed it for a clean install with no mods.
