ok, I was thinking about the fact that my dream jobs greatly differ from work I've actually gotten into and such.
So the question I put to all of you is, What is your dream job(s) and your real job(s). Are you still shooting for your dream job or doing it through a different route.
So for me, my dream jobs basically make me out to be a storyteller in different medias. Author, Manga-Ka, Game Storyline/Maker, movies, guitar folk story music, etc.
Funnily enough my jobs have mostly been helping people. Right now it's security and I'm training to be a pharmacy tech. I also love Americorps and want to do another year of it along with some time in Peace Corps. I always say kids annoy me but I tend to do alot of volunteer work with them (art classes mostly). I don't think I want to be a big wig anything. Just want to be happy with my work, pay the bills, with enough left over just in case and to save for things I want.
So, what are all your stories?

Original dream job - Nonverbal Communication Focus in Advertising
Second dream job - Freshwater Ecologist
Actual job - paper-pusher in the psychology department of a university. (I hear a fog horn: booo-riiing)
Better luck to you all out there.

My dream job is actually a series of jobs, I might sound retarded when I say this but,
I planned one being a touring musician(even if it was a one town tour lol) a rally car driver, a pc technician, and grow some marijuanna on the side all at once as a dream job lol.
What I actually do: Construction.

My dream job is to be an author of sorts. I want to create stories for video games, like Final Fantasy, or something I came up with my self, which I barely started working on: The Greatest Story Never Told.
My real job: nothing. I just got out of high school and I'm still looking.

dream job : animation/gamedevelopment
actual job : dairy queen :P
Startin uni in honors anthropology, will probably continue to a masters with it, if not further, and that'll take me wherever it does.

Dream job: writing music for big video game companies and becoming best buddies with Mr. Uematsu-Sama. :3 I'd also like to be an opera singer for classical music and perform, and on the side have a secret identity in which I go by a different name and sing in some symphonic metal band. And one day people will realize that both people are one person and there will be some conspiracy about it.
Actual job: very part-time piano teacher =P and going to university.
I originally was enrolled in pure and applied science and always had this conflict between going into music and science. I've done a fair amount of science and then realized I wanted to go back to music and that's what I'm aiming for now. =)

Music is hard to do. My SO was stuck deciding between Music or Accounting. They eventually went with Piano/Sound Recording. After much effort, all that was attainable was a part-time piano instructor gig (which you already have) and a full-time waiting position :-\
Maybe after we make more money something can be started from scratch. But it seems like anything music related is kinda cut-throat. So best of luck!
Hopefully, I'll work at GameStop soon. :D
I actually tried to get that as a part-time job on the side. But since I work on a university campus, basically everyone here between the ages of 18-30 is also applying there. Man I'd love getting a deal on my games, and getting to play the displays when it's slow :(

-Nothing.
-Nothing, huh?
-I would relax... I would sit on my ass all day... I would do nothing.
-Well, you don't need a million dollars to do nothing, man. Take a look at my cousin: he's broke, don't do ***.
Sorry, love that movie!

whats wrong with bounty hunter nowadays? :P
The recession hit the industry *really* hard. It used to be $10000 for a rapist, $20000 for a murderer, now it's $5000 at best. $5000 Canadian. :-[

Yes it is, but the gap between Canadian and USD isn't as big because AmericanUnited-Statesican money has been getting worse :(
-
Actually canada has one of the strongest economies and a very financally stable market right now. If you compare the cdn dollar to the euro you can see a definite upward trend.
-
as to bounty hunting, there isnt too much of that per se as bounties... it has degraded to the much less glorious bail bond agent :P. Usually ppl not showing up for court n you drag em in.
EDIT:
upon further research, traditional bounty hunting is still legal in the states, and the phillipines :P
EDIT2:
upon more reading of the wiki article on bounty hunters, I am pleased to see Boba Fett in the list of notable bounty hunters :P
-
haha, there should be online bounty hunters now. Heck I know that there are enough hackers to make a market for it.
-
Dream Job: Makeup artist. Or a Lead game tester. :)
Real Job: Own a practice with a friend (private duty nursing).

Not really, I'm currently getting prereqs to go into a BSN or PA program. Good money.
I figure I am doing a job I never intended, and getting paid peanuts for it. I might as well do a job I never intended, and make oodles!
Florida here I come! Well, in about five-eight years after I finish my prereqs, get into a program, and get some clinical time... But then! Florida here I come! (Or CA, some place with more beaches, and less snowpocalypses...)

I shouldn't take you that long MOST collages offer a 2+2 program/s the prerequisite classes are something of a bother but about a year should cover it (full time of course). My suggestion is skip the middleman and go to werk for yourself it pays so much more...

I'm working while I take the prereqs. I wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise (i'm working at a university to get tuition discounts). So, at most I can only take one class per semester (I tried two at first, and had to drop one, I was just waaay too tired all the time).
Then Imma take out a massive loan when I enroll in the actual program.
Seeing as how I wasn't thinking "health care" my first run through college, I didn't take anything useful to me now. So I'm having to take all the basic science classes required. So it's probably going to take me about 2+ years to get prereqs finished. I'm already two courses in, but this semester, and next, have been put on hold due to other life priorities. Come spring I'll be back on track, though.
As far as working for myself, I hear that's the way to go (with any job, really). But I don't know that I have much of an entrepreneurial spirit. I really don't know how I would even get started. I think I would need to be part of someone else's gig, that already has a game plan. Maybe after I have experience in the field, I would be able to start something up.
