I've never bothered with chocobo breeding.  I just did without it until I beat Ruby Weapon and got the gold chocobo from the dude in Kalm.

The comic writer's name is Scott Ramsoomair.  Yeah, he's a funny guy (http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=216) ;D

Seriously, he hasn't been funny in quite some time, except on the increasingly frequent occasions when he steals a joke from someone else.
