Title: Weapon textures
Post by: GI-Jimbo on 2010-07-24 14:33:00
I was planning on learning how to texture and I decided to use Biturn to convert yuffies weapon Conformer to .3ds format. I was able to bring it into photo shop to add cool textures to it  but before I went crazy with it I wanted to make sure I get get it back into the game but I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get it back into the game. Unless I'm doing something wrong I believe I can only save it from photoshop as .obj and I dont know a way of getting that format back to the original.

Importing models straight into photoshop is definately not the way to go about it.

Conventionally, you use the UV map from the model to texture it. Since the originals were coloured with vertex colouring, that weapon more than likely doesn't have a UV map, which means you'll have to make one yourself with a 3D modelling suite like blender or 3ds Max.

Once you're done creating the UV map, you can render out the template and photoshop to your heart's content over the top of that. To get it back into FF7, you're going to need to export the model into the .3DS format, get Pcreator & IMG2TEX (I'm pretty sure Kimera's still buggy when it comes to 3ds importing) and convert with those. Then you can repack the LGP and you're away.

Hey thanks for the quick reply buddy. I kind of understand what you are saying I just have no experience in modeling or u/v mapping at all but that's ok I will try to learn on my own. I just got 3dsmax and I'm learning  the basics but I am much more interested in texturing the old weapons.

Game Tweaking only being for releases must truly be more confusing than I thought.  Moved. Warned.

sorry, I will make sure to read the rules more often. Am I stuck with this watched thing forever or does it go away?

It drops 1% per day, so eventually it will go away... unless you want to keep it...?
