Title: ff8 read from hdd
Post by: Morotstomten on 2010-08-18 23:21:14
quick question, i have ff8 installed on a very old pc that during the years have been stripped of its dvd burner(i installed it on new pc then copied it and registry file over to the old pc), instead of going through the minor trouble of acquiring a new drive or move over one from another pc i was wondering if copying over the content of all cds to a directory on a hdd and change the registry entry datadrive: (in this case f: even though it hasnt existed for 4 years) to that directory on the hdd(in this case it would be w:\games\FINAL FANTASY VIII\discs) would it work? i dont know if the FIELD.FI/FL/FS files differs on each disc but bytewise they are exactly the same. someone must have tried this, didnt come up with anything on google though

if you can copy the CDs over, why not simply leave the CD drive hooked up? You can grab a basic CD drive off newegg for less than $10. AFAIK you cannot do this, and you would need a cracked version of the ff8.exe to bypass the CD check.
