Title: changing game disk
Post by: slentara1 on 2010-08-19 20:07:43
I have a question. There are programs now that let you rip disks to make backups, so I  was wondering, if someone were to edit the lgp files on a disk that they rip before backing it up on another disk, say take the prp char file and world_xx file and replace the originals would the game install with the updated models already without you having to mod them yourself. This is theoretical btw, and would only be for personal use if done, seeing as it would violate various licences if someone distributed it. JW

Sure. If you change the assets on the original disk, you'll change the yield of an installation.

You might want to double-check that the installer doesn't try and verify the integrity of source files (eg by length checking), though.

How often do you reinstall the game?

Because if this is for personal use, it seems like a lot more trouble than it's worth.

well it's really for instances where i may get a newer computer since i have an unupgradable laptop i don't want to have to go through and redo all the mods all over again :-\

I believe that you can just copy all the data from the modded game onto a USB stick and overwrite all the game's default files on a new install. That's what I did. You just need to fix ff7config again.
