Title: FF VII-2?
Post by: Tabizzle on 2010-08-25 22:42:39
I've been watching a few youtube videos and I came across this channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/RemakeOfFFVII#p/a/u/2/ZxMD1o1bgUw
The channel also has its own site http://finalfantasyvii-2.yolasite.com/ and they made an entire remake of final fantasy vii. Whats weird is that some of the mods are familiar, especially the barret model, which is similar to Timu Sumisu's one. So is this final fantasy vii remake affiliated with qhimm in anyway?

wouldnt be surprising, much of the content looks stolen. Also, there is a ripped copy of Advent Children up on the site.

Ugh, I hate how this guy is just using mods he downloaded here/ stolen models to get internet popularity and make a profit without even giving credit. and the way he's using the title 'FF7 remake' to draw people in. It makes me sick.

One thing I can say without a doubt, the Qhimm community is not affiliated with this guy.

Also, why is this in feedback?

Actually, he is a member here and has even contributed to the community some.   If you check the bottom most announcement on the front page of that site, that was actually from me warning him that selling a modified game for personal profit was likely to get him a C&D, if not sued.   But for whatever reason after a few months he decided it was worth it.

As for this being in Feedback...  Warning issued.  Moved to General.

Oh, I see. Well it still doesn't make it much better, but I guess since he's contributed here I won't kick up too much of a fuss  ;)

But seriously, selling it for personal gain? Dude needs some morals.

Just to clarify, I'm in no way defending him.

i know, he's a dirty SOB. I hit every YouTube video i could find to let people know that he's a phony. Sadly, he has probably already moved on, so he will never read the flames that will surely erupt on YouTube. I urge everyone to post comments on his youtube videos to redirect interested parties towards qhimm, rather than let this dope take credit for all our hard work.

Im also curoius as to what his username on Qhimm is.

I feel weird for spamming the same thing over and over, but also now hopefully anyone who visits this guy will be turned away and over to us. This could be a bad thing though. I mean, we don't want too much publicity, right?
On another note, it's kinda pointless for me to go around and just dupe all of pyro's comments, but I guess it enforces the point somewhat.

EDIT: There are way too many videos on way too many different channels where this sort of thing is happening. We can't go around posting on all of them.
To be honest, I'm wondering whether a release of TA's bombing mission project demo is going to make this problem better, or if it's only going to make it worse.

Also, anyone wanna email him and have a go at him? 'cos I'll do it if nobody else will :P

I e-mailed him and told him to removed my Cloud model

His name on qhimm was kula_wende. Now that we have the power to ban him he has been banned. We do not appreciate the theft of peoples work. Nor selling it for profit and bringing unneeded attention to qhimm's forums.

Ah.... That guy... I don't particularly remember what he did, but I remember seeing the name allot.

Yeah it HAS to come down, or at least remove my model from it. No offense, but more worried about number one

Ahh yes. He "made" an Advent Children model for Cloud.

Well best of luck convincing him to remove it since he's making a profit off of it

I didn't quite make sense of the report function on Yola ( his website hoster ) but someone could report him for copyright infringement and get the site taken down.
Also, someone could notify Square-Enix that so he gets a nice letter. I couldn't quite figure out where they want stuff like that sent to.
Square takes copyright infringement crazy seriously, so they will put a definite stop to this if he makes even a single cent off it.

But that could backfire on us :/

EDIT: Ninja'd by sl1982 :-P

Tbh, I don't think that mod looks very good anyway. I could go on a rant, but I'll hold it in...

Qhimm isn't doing anything particularly illegal ( or at least nothing where money comes into the play ) so I kinda don't get that notion
I'd love to see kula get his ass sued by square though.

Copyrights and stuff. Plus the fact that all of the stuff he is selling came from here. Or from other square games.

I don't understand :-[, why would he steal the wm reconstruction when he could easily create one himself! He is a great 3D artist and 2D texture artist it would be nothing for him to re-create all work done by Qhimm team! (besides Aali's Drivers). I used to talk to him, I will send him a harsh email. But in the end there are an absolute ton of people I have seen pulling this kind of stuff on youtube....In the end it's just something you cannot think about.

Squeenix doesn't care if people are doing anything illegal; if they don't like you, they'll send you a C&D. The threat of legal action is enough to stop most amateur projects like this.

Squeenix know that they can sue people into submission even if they have no case; it costs money to defend yourself in court, and even if you win every time you'll still end up broke.

I don't understand :-[, why would he steal the wm reconstruction when he could easily create one himself!

He can produce something himself, but he can't make anything of the same quality. Why would he spend months making models and textures that look half as good as the TA stuff when he can just steal other people's work and sell it as if he made it himself?

His name on qhimm was kula_wende. Now that we have the power to ban him he has been banned. We do not appreciate the theft of peoples work. Nor selling it for profit and bringing unneeded attention to qhimm's forums.

Question:

Why couldn't he be named until now? Before he was banned, none of the people who knew that he was the one doing it stated publicly that he was the culprit.

Back when we found out about this, neither me nor bear could do anything about it. And hadnt heard from Qhimm either. We did not want to name names until a decision had been made. Then honestly it had been forgotten until apz brought the thread back up. I decided to make an executive decision at that point.

Bottom line is that I want my Cloud taken out of his project... Although I can't seem to find anything on this hodge-podge of an amateur web page made entirely out of other peoples content that says anything about selling it for profit, or really anywhere where it even mentions a download. So I'm pretty sure it's still mostly harmless, to be honest.

I can only figure that he's giving it out at some mall, without mentioning which city in which state and apparently only 6 months ago.

Regardless, I sent several e-mails telling him to remove my Cloud from his project.

I predict that this will go nowhere and he hasn't touched it in months... It's still not cool to do that

He lives in the Phillipines.  I used to have a link to a report/blog/something (with pictures) where he and a few other former members went to some sort of comic con type event advertising it as FFVII-2 selling cd's of the game with the mods applied to them.   Their site was then for help with trouble shooting.   How much they sold or if they are continuing, I have no idea.   The problem is that after I went to his site and asked him to shut it down, he opened it back up a few months later.

I'm no internet policeman, but we don't need people's selfish antics bringing a C&D here.

He's selling burned copies of the modified game at conventions and such, which becomes very apparant once you check his youtube channel. Last time, he sold the game about a month or so ago in the phillipines.
I am getting mixed answers but he seems to sell the game at horrid prices like 50$ a piece. ( which is as much as the frign original game )
Not to mention that apparently quite a bit of his copies have problems and don't run at all, juding from the comments on youtube.
pity we cant tell square because of the copyright backlash and stuff.

Since we're on the subject of Apz Model, it's uploaded onto a model sharing site.

I know the guy that uploaded it, Zerox. Do you want me to ask him to remove it?

I think he's registered on here too. I'm sure he posted something with KH2  models not that long ago.

Very amusing. I do remember hearing about some kind of topaz weapon... was there ever a mod that actually had an enemy like that? ( without the fancy textures of course )
Or is my mind playing tricks on me

Another note! perhaps tong and Kula_Wendy are the same people! That Cloud looks awfully the same..Hmmm.

Could it be that he finished the model long ago, then decided to join Qhimm. Also the source image that I mentioned earlier does appear that the top banner of his makeshift site, it does not appear to be ripped from a video...It does beg the Question: Are Tong and Kula_Wendy two one person?

EDIT: I have sent a message to Tong to clarify if he ever gave his models to anyone, As far as I can tell the models are identical in every way meaning he might have stole them to begin with! This is truly horrible! not only is he not a good 3D artist but he is a thief of countless peoples works!. O_O To think I used to look up to him.
Title: Re: FF VII-2?
Post by: apz freak on 2010-11-18 13:54:19
Topaz is entirely Tong's creation

No I absolutely think the TOng would be able to model/texture any mod without ripping them off from anyone. I used to read his blog (despite being in broken english/another language) He's posted a million renders of other models he's made. Allot of them Final Fantasy characters.

In no way would I believe a guy capable of that would just slap a bunch of other people's work together. Besides he has his own model of cloud why would he want to rip off mine? Kula_wende's website just uses artwork created by Tong.
Title: Re: FF VII-2?
Post by: Mako on 2010-11-18 14:08:59
But I was more speaking on the Cloud model itself, Kula_Wendy made a Cloud for the field (not yours) that resembled exactly the model used by Tong! as well as tong finished a Vincent model that concededly Kula_Wendy was working on a Vincent model as well...before he left!.

I believe Tong and Kula_Wende are from different countries (Thailand and the Philippines respectively). Unless Kula_Wende is fluent in both Thai and Tagalog (as well as English) he'd have a hard time juggling these two personas.

Post by: Zerox on 2010-11-21 05:12:04
I realize I have little room to claim it as "my" model but it's quite apparent to me that he's using the Tifa model I put together out of pre-existing materials and texture/uv map edits. Quite personally I don't care that he's using it as I have little intention of ever attempting to do anything with it myself anymore. You would not believe the amount of emails and pms you get asking for more characters, all the party member's characters, or heck I even had several people asking me if I'd replace EVERY model in FF7. I stopped replying to the messages long ago but they still come every now and then.

I can only imagine what Apz may have got in his pm and email amounts.

I must admit the only reason I've decided to show my face around here again is because of the surprising return of Apz Freak. I must say it's a pleasure to have him here yet again.

Anyway to avoid getting to far off-topic, I do agree he is using things he stole from elsewhere and he probably didn't do much if any of the work in modding FF7 at all. He probably just dowloaded a lot of stuff and tried to pull profit out of it. I also agree that trying to get Square to bust him may leak over to Qhimm.com getting some problems.

Most likely he will eventually get caught on his own, and even if he continues this for some time to come it has little affect on our everyday lives and I see little reason to worry about it.
