Title: Oh boy... here I am again...
Post by: SSJ4_Flash on 2002-03-08 23:17:00
:z This is really not amusing anymore...

Okay, my copy of windows XP finally crashed and I reformatted and reinstallled (making sure that I still had my ff7 precious savegames).  Now,  have reinstalled ff7 and the opening cg works fine... until I press a button to go to the main menu.  It never gets to the main menu when I use the "nVidia" checkbox with either TNT or 128.  I can get the game to work if I uncheck the "nVidia" checkbox, but then the greyed-out text stuff doesnt work and a bunch of other glithes in text happen... help me please!

I have:

GeForce 2
SB Live!
256 ram
etc, etc...

(PS also, in a completely unrelated post, why doesnt my signature automatically pop up here?   :isee: )

FF7 doesn't run on all XP systems.  Some people have it run, reformat, and then it doesn't run anymore.  It has problems with the Kernel, apparently.  Even if you get it to run, the Chocobo races will always crash.

The solution:
XP/98 dual-boot.

I have a solution: Build a cheap (free-$50) computer with a dedicated install of Win98 & FF7. That's what I did.

50 dollars? thats pretty much impossible to do.

id rather buy a dreamcast (if i could still find one) and play some soul calibur (or run linux) with that.

anyway.... goku is right. the most practical way of doing this is to dual boot 98 and XP (running on FAT)

Darkness: Goku? Don't you mean Aaron?

And I actually HAVE built one for under $50! All I had to buy was a case. What's weird is that the case for that system is better than my good computer's case, but I don't feel like switching them...

It's a bit misleading to say you're building a computer for under $50 when you already own most of the components ;)

Own, trade or dig out of the trash. It still works.

Yeah ... but it's still not exactly accurate, is it...

It's kinda like saying "What d'you mean, you can't afford a GF3, mine was free!" when you already had one ... sure, it costs *you* nothing to pick it up and use it if it's already there, but someone bought it at some point.

Ive heard of a lot of corporations and even some universities that throw out complete systems (CAD companies are notorious for this, from what Ive heard) and you can pick em out of the dumpster :D
never tried it though...  :z
