I downloaded a ff7input.cfg file since I didn't have one. It hasn't aided my efforts. I can watch the opening movie, right up to the point I press a keyboard button. I get a repeatable, consistent error, thus:

Given the reference to Atioglxx.dll, I am going to hazard a guess that my video card needs it's drivers updated. Is this the case?
I have had rare terrible experiences with that process and would prefer to not "upgrade" if at all possible. I am using the blue platinum box version of FF7, with Final Fantasy Remix 2.5.1, Avalanche High Res.exe, and Aali's opengl driver, 0.7.10 with the vista reg patch from 0.7. My rig is: windows 7 ultimate, athlon 64 bit dual core 3ghz cpu, radeon 3870, onboard sound, 4gb ram.
Thank you, in advance to anyone who can tell me what's going on and how to resolve it.

That would be my best guess as well. That dll file is the ati opengl file. Try updating first and see what happens.

Well, upgrading to the latest driver didn't do anything too obvious.

Still no luck. That new opening is fantastic, though.

Try turning off texture compression. Seems like ATI drivers are doing something stupid with that.

Thank you very much. That gets the game up and running.
The only difficulty I've got now is graphical (not that the last one wasn't), and doesn't result in crashes, so I'm happy.

I suspect I need to turn on or off some of those other things in ff7_opengl.cfg.
Edit: Nope, just needed to realize that the avalanche pack was already installed with the remix pack. A clean reinstall and the fix Aali suggested and I am golden.
Thank you, sl1982 and Aali.
